Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday, 2015-08-10 - New York City Dreams!

Post number 1053

Hello darlings! Another week, another fabulous Monday, another fabulous blog post! And, what's even more fabulous than a Monday post, you ask? It's my very first New York City blog post! Can you believe it?!

Now, I know what you're thinking: Emma, in New York?! Yes, my dears! The Pink Tutu has landed in the Big Apple. Honestly, Iā€™m pinching myself to make sure this isnā€™t some fantastic dream!

Let me paint you a picture, if you will. Iā€™m currently perched on the plush velvet armchair in my little bijou hotel room (with the most divine view of Central Park!), clad in my favourite pink silk robe and sipping a cappuccino while the sun bathes the city in golden hues. As I type, a sweet melody from a nearby street musician drifts in, making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Ah, New York City, how I have waited to dance with you!

So, youā€™re probably dying to know how I ended up here in this glittering city of dreams. It all started when a rather handsome gentleman ā€“ and a highly talented choreographer, no less! ā€“ saw me performing at the Buxton Festival a few weeks ago. We talked about my ballet dreams, about spreading the joy of dance, and about pink tutus (of course!). He'd recently secured a big ballet commission, with the biggest show on Broadway, no less! It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and guess what? He offered me a role! I nearly fainted! He had heard about my Pink Tutu blog and how Iā€™d become somewhat of a dance icon in the Derbyshire village where Iā€™m from, and it seemed the director of the show wanted some ā€˜realā€™ life ballerinas for the street scenes! How exciting is that?!

But letā€™s rewind a little. I need to give you all a little back story. I'm Emma, the Pink Tutu, and my biggest passion is spreading joy through ballet and beautiful fashion. You might not believe it, but it was right here in my tiny village, in the middle of Derbyshire, where I realised my dreams of twirling across the stage could take me anywhere in the world. As a child, I dreamt of attending London's Royal Ballet School and would spend hours spinning around in my tutu (a hand-me-down from my mum!) dreaming of dancing for a glittering, international audience. You know me, I love a bit of pink, so imagine my delight when, years later, I discovered the most breathtaking ballet costume shop nestled in a little street of Soho! That was the day my Pink Tutu blog was born, with a vision to spread my passion for dancing, tutus, fashion, and the joy of being true to yourself. My motto? ā€œSpread the love of dance ā€“ one tutu at a time!ā€.

But back to the Big Apple, darlings! Iā€™ve been in New York for two weeks now and Iā€™m absolutely living it up! It's already given me endless inspiration for my next blog post. The hustle and bustle of the city is incredible - you really feel the energy coursing through the air! But what makes New York even more special, for me, is its rich ballet heritage! Did you know, New York was actually the birthplace of the American Ballet Theatre (ABT)? This weekend, I got to see their production of "Giselle," at the Metropolitan Opera House, and let me tell you, I'm still feeling all the shivers! I'm also looking forward to the American Ballet Theatreā€™s "Swan Lake," which I'll be catching next week. But this trip is not just about admiring beautiful ballets from the front row (though it certainly is about that too!), Iā€™m excited to soak up everything this city has to offer: the fashion, the shopping, the art, the foodā€¦ Everything!

Just today, Iā€™ve been exploring SoHo, that amazing shopping district! Can you believe, I just got the cutest pair of pink ballet shoes ā€“ not for dancing on stage (although they do fit beautifully!), but for the fashion, dear!

Of course, I've been on a pink tutu hunt as well. The ultimate dream? To get the whole of New York dancing in pink! It wouldnā€™t be easy. Let's just say, New Yorkers like to wear what they wear, and many a time have they raised an eyebrow at my pink attire. (It's all good, I just twirl even harder!). However, I have already seen a handful of bright pink tutus scattered throughout the city! Maybe thereā€™s hope after all!

Anyway, back to my day! After a whirlwind shopping session (including, of course, a delectable lunch of fresh-baked croissants and creamy cappuccinos!), I got to practice with the street ballet troupe, ready for tonightā€™s performance! Donā€™t get me wrong, itā€™s tough working with these seasoned Broadway stars! Some of these girls are literally wearing seven-inch platform stilettos and dancing up a storm! But don't worry, I managed to steal some tips, which I will share with you all tomorrow!

To end this week's blog, darlings, hereā€™s a little tip for your next travel escapade. Itā€™s New York Cityā€™s own secret little travel gem: the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). And guess what?! Iā€™m obsessed with it. Riding the NYC metro is pure joy, from its iconic colour scheme to its fascinating variety of personalities! You could even say, in a way, itā€™s the cityā€™s own ballet! Everyoneā€™s going their separate ways, yet they are somehow connected, swirling and weaving around each other like a choreographed ballet. I must admit, I even had a moment where I started to sway gently as the train accelerated out of the station, my tutu fluttering with excitement! Maybe thatā€™s just me!

Until next Monday, darlings, Iā€™ll be waltzing into the bright lights of Broadway with my pink tutu, keeping you all posted! Until next time, stay fabulous, keep your hearts full of sunshine and remember, spread the joy of dancing ā€“ one tutu at a time!

P.S. If youā€™re planning a trip to New York City, darlings, you should absolutely check out the Broadway production of "The Phantom of the Opera," which, by chance, I'm lucky enough to see tonight! Don't worry, I will tell you all about it in my next blog!
