Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 18th January 2016: New York, New York!

Post No. 1076

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where everything is pink, fluffy, and revolves around twirling. This week, I’m bursting with excitement to share my adventures from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple! I know, I know, a tutu-clad ballerina in the heart of New York City - who'd have thought? But let me tell you, it was absolutely fabulous!

Remember, you can catch up on all my posts at www.pink-tutu.com every Monday. It's where I share my adventures, musings, and the most amazing fashion finds. I know you’re itching for details on this trip, so let's dive in!

Travel in Style

My journey to New York began, of course, in a chic little pink travel bag packed with my favourite ballet necessities – the must-have pink tulle skirt for my own impromptu performances (you never know where inspiration might strike), a matching pair of pink ballet flats (because my feet deserve to be as stylish as I am), and my ever-so-necessary emergency pack of glitter, just in case the occasion calls for some extra sparkle.

It's no secret I love the Metro. That whizzing beneath the city, the sleek lines of the stations, the rumble of the tracks – it’s all so dramatic, and it allows for such brilliant people-watching opportunities. I have to confess, I couldn't resist pulling out my trusty pink tutu during a journey from JFK airport to Manhattan. You know me – a little twirl here, a few flicks of my sparkly pink hair bow there… you can never have too much glitter, especially when you’re in the city that never sleeps.

The Show Must Go On

Before I could fully dive into the city's enchanting energy, I had a performance to fulfil. That's the thing about being a ballet dancer; you always need to keep practicing, and opportunities pop up in the most unexpected places. This weekend, I was booked for a beautiful charity performance in Brooklyn, performing "The Swan Lake" for an audience of smiling faces and generous donations. It was wonderful to connect with my love for ballet and give back to the community at the same time. And, naturally, I managed to squeeze in a spot of shopping during my downtime in Brooklyn. Who can resist the charming, independent boutiques and vintage stores dotted around this artistic neighbourhood?

The Majesty of Broadway

Now, let’s talk about the real highlight of my trip - a mesmerizing night at the theatre, a night on Broadway! I mean, who can resist the magic of a well-executed musical? This time, it was "The Phantom of the Opera," with all its theatricality and melodrama. I love the sweeping costumes and intricate set design, especially when it's filled with opulent chandelier moments, and even a little ghostly intrigue thrown in. It was the perfect dose of Broadway magic. I even managed to snap a few photos with the leading lady afterwards – we chatted about all things ballet and discussed our love for shimmering costumes. She actually admired my little pink tutu – isn't that just lovely?

City Chic: A Fashion Frenzy

No trip to New York City is complete without some serious fashion inspiration! Oh, the fabulousness! There was an endless array of stores and boutiques - from the chic vintage stores on the Lower East Side to the designer havens of Fifth Avenue. It was like stepping into a glittering, sartorial wonderland. And, of course, my shopping haul was extensive, from the most gorgeous fuchsia dress for a night out to a fluffy pink sweater (with a tutu-like tulle hem - what a coincidence!). My suitcase overflowed with possibilities, just waiting for me to explore different looks. It felt amazing to finally treat myself and add a few pieces to my personal ballet-inspired collection.

Breakfast with a View

Every journey deserves a touch of luxury, wouldn’t you say? And what better way to indulge in the beauty of New York City than by enjoying a decadent brunch at a rooftop cafe? Picture it - the sun rising over the city, warming the elegant cafe with its rays, the view sweeping over the skyscrapers, and me, resplendent in my pale pink lace top and a charming pink hat, sipping on a strawberry smoothie, and nibbling on delicious croissants with fresh berries. It felt utterly divine, especially paired with a delicious mimosa, just to sweeten the experience.

Tutu Tips

For those of you yearning to embrace the pink tutu life, or simply dreaming of your own adventures in the city that never sleeps, let me impart a few wise words gleaned from my experience. First, my dears, travel with a suitcase big enough to accommodate your stylish acquisitions – trust me, you will not be disappointed by the city's irresistible shops. Second, embrace every moment with unbridled joy – whether you're twirling on the Metro or spotting a beautiful vintage ballet costume at a pop-up market, seize every opportunity to make memories. Third, and most importantly, never underestimate the power of a pink tutu - it has the power to transform any outfit, elevate any mood, and even open doors to conversation with the most glamorous people.

This Week’s Inspiration

Remember, you’ve got this! Embrace the world with your unique flair, unleash your inner ballerina, and know that you are never too far from the rhythm of your own happiness. And remember, always leave a little sparkle wherever you go!

Until next week,

Love and Tutu Power,

Emma xx
