Pink Tutu Blog: NYC, Monday 2016-08-08 - Dance the City! (Post #1105)

Hello, lovelies!

It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple, tutu twirling and shoe-shopping my way through the concrete jungle. My trusty pink tutu has been seeing a lot of action lately – we've been waltzing through Central Park, skipping along Broadway, and shimmying on the subway (the stares are part of the fun!).

And what a weekend it's been! Remember I told you I was feeling a little creatively drained last week? Well, New York, you magical city, you cured that in an instant. There’s something so electrifying about this place, a buzz that gets right under your skin and makes you want to dance – which of course, I did!

Tutus & Times Square

I’ve said it before, but I truly believe that a tutu is the perfect outfit for any occasion, and this weekend proved no exception.

Friday saw me strutting my stuff around Times Square, the epicentre of dazzling lights and vibrant chaos. The sheer audacity of the colour pink in that electric environment was glorious. A little birdie even whispered that a tourist from somewhere outside London (shhh! Don't tell the others, but it might have been… Derby) commented on how fabulously 'bonkers' my tutu looked! Bonkers, that’s a good one, don't you think? It truly reflects the spirit of New York – bold, bright, and oh so, well… bonkers.

Broadway Brilliance & Bargain Basement Bargains

Then, the real magic began! Friday night I got tickets to the "School of Rock" musical on Broadway! It's such a hilarious, heart-warming show. And of course, no New York adventure would be complete without a trip to the fabulous Garment District, where I unearthed some incredible bargain basement bargains. My bank balance might be weeping, but my wardrobe is practically singing! New York really knows how to cater to the discerning, pink-tutu-loving shopper, and trust me, I took advantage!

Ballet at the Beacon

The weekend peaked on Sunday. I made my way to the iconic Beacon Theatre in Manhattan – where my tutu stole the show at the “Romeo & Juliet” performance by the Royal Ballet. I mean, seriously, the whole place stopped and just stared!

But of course, the real draw was the ballet itself. Seeing this legendary story brought to life so beautifully was simply magical. Watching the graceful dancers move, and the captivating storytelling, all within that majestic venue, reminded me why I am so passionate about dance. And wearing my pink tutu made me feel a part of something grand, a celebration of everything beautiful and artistic.

Monday Muse

Today I'm heading to one of my favourite New York haunts – a hidden little gem called "The Ballet Nook," a ballet studio right in the heart of Brooklyn. It's a haven for all things tutu, with vintage ballet posters plastered across the walls and the soft scent of pointe shoes filling the air. A welcome retreat after a weekend of dazzling lights and urban thrills.

Tutu Tuesday

Next week I’ll be at Lincoln Center, ready to lose myself in the elegance of "Swan Lake." I’m feeling a little extra-fancy for this show, so I might even treat myself to a new pair of sparkly shoes! Speaking of treating myself, I might even go vintage shopping this weekend. Remember, if you're thinking about giving your life a little more pink-tutu-tastic flare, check out the vintage shops in Brooklyn - the treasures you'll find there are beyond fab!

The City that Never Sleeps – and Neither Do I!

I love how New York keeps me on my toes. No two days are the same, every experience a thrill. This weekend's adventure was a reminder that life is for living, and sometimes, the most amazing things happen when you wear a tutu, take a chance and say "Yes!"

Have you danced in New York City? Share your stories with me! Until next week, stay fabulous!

Love,

Emma xx
