Pink Tutu Blog NYC #1110: Dancing in the Big Apple

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind trip to New York City. This week, I've been living the ultimate ballerina dream – twirling amongst the skyscrapers, catching world-class performances, and of course, indulging in some fabulous shopping. Oh, the life!

As always, I made my grand entrance into the city in my favourite pink tutu (naturally!), feeling like a whimsical princess ready to conquer Manhattan. This time, the tutu was a light and airy number, adorned with sparkling silver sequins, which twinkled beautifully under the streetlights as I hopped off the metro. You can imagine the head-turning glances! It truly is my little armour against the Big Apple bustle.

Now, before I tell you all about my adventures, a little bit about my week so far: It’s Monday, the 12th of September, 2016. And what a gloriously sunny September it’s been! This week, New York is abuzz with fashion, and I just know there’s a tutu for everyone at the New York Fashion Week showings. Oh, how I wish I had a spare one to wear! My suitcase just wouldn’t have coped.

I'm not just here for the glamour, though! I’m on a mission to spread the love of ballet, and what better way to do that than to embrace the artistic soul of the city itself? This week has seen me glued to a seat at the beautiful Metropolitan Opera House for an unforgettable evening of classical ballet, and I can't wait to share the experience with you all.

Speaking of the Met, did you know this iconic building is a magnificent example of beaux-arts architecture? And it really is so grand and beautiful. There are also some fascinating tales attached to its past. Oh, but the architecture of the city is a topic for another time! For now, I need to tell you about the spectacular show I watched! It was "Swan Lake," of course, because how could I come to New York and not see this most exquisite, moving performance? I literally sobbed my eyes out at the poignant finale, but the exquisite artistry of the dancing had my jaw glued to the floor the whole time! It’s such an iconic and magical ballet that makes you realise, if anything, how ballet should be shared. Even the staunchest naysayer can't help but feel swept up by the sheer passion of it all.

My pink tutu has also been spotted gracing the most glamorous ballet studios in New York this week. Imagine my excitement as I stood in line, amongst a flurry of other dedicated ballerinas, eagerly awaiting my chance to move and groove to the hypnotic beat of ballet. Let’s just say, those classes really got me warmed up! In the sweltering humidity, I learned all sorts of cool contemporary steps that were inspired by both yoga and dance, so, I can hardly wait to teach you all how to move with such fluidity next week in my little corner of Derbyshire.

Speaking of the Big Apple’s glamour, it wouldn’t be a proper visit to New York without an absolutely fabulous shopping spree. After all, fashion is my passion. And there are so many fantastic vintage and designer clothing stores in New York. You name it and New York has got it. You can walk into a vintage shop, buy yourself an amazing 70’s style dress, throw on your pink tutu, and waltz straight into an exclusive club party. How cool is that? But the biggest highlight of my shopping spree, was my trip to a fabulous vintage store, crammed full of dazzling vintage tutus. They had one that would have perfectly matched my ballet shoes. I couldn't resist! So now I have two pink tutus, a very proud ballerina indeed!

And, of course, I couldn’t be in the heart of this amazing metropolis and not grab a slice of world-famous New York pizza. Even as a tutu-wearing ballerina, pizza is my ultimate weakness, I mean who doesn't love cheesy goodness?!

As I sit here writing, watching the sun slowly begin its descent behind the towering buildings, painting the city skyline in vibrant hues, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. Being a ballet-loving traveller has opened doors for me in ways I could never have imagined. Every performance, every city I visit, fills my heart with a joy I can barely contain. My heart bursts with this joy that makes me want to share it with every single person in the world! Maybe my mission of making pink tutus a thing should be accompanied by a campaign to get the entire world dancing in these fabulous tutus too. What do you think?

I have such an incredibly busy few days ahead of me, but it’s hard to find the energy to leave this beautiful city. New York is such a sensory overload in the best way possible. I can already see how I'll miss this charming and lively city that truly does never sleep. But at least I have my New York memories and the fantastic photos I took.

Until next Monday, my dearest lovelies. And remember, if you see a girl twirling down the street in a pink tutu – it just might be me. Say hi! I'd love to hear all about your week.

Keep on twirling!

Lots of love,

Emma xo

*Note: * This is a first draft and can be elaborated on by including additional details from Emma's week in NYC like: * What her favourite metro lines are, or stories of the other passengers * Her experience of the street ballet performances * Specific items of clothing that she purchases * She could even incorporate her "Pink Tutu Philosophy," the reasons she loves wearing pink tutus. * Mention her plans for her next trip to New York (maybe mentioning that she wants to attend a Broadway show.

To create an even better blog post you can think of how you could add more of a conversational style to Emma's voice.

Please feel free to request more iterations, as the above was only meant to be a starter.
