Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #1126 - New York, New York!

Monday 2017-01-02

Hello my darling Tutu Tribe! Happy New Year, loves! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰ I hope you all had a smashing Christmas and New Year's Eve! ๐ŸŽ„โœจ

I'm back in my beloved New York City after a quick trip back to Derbyshire for the holidays. It was so lovely to see family and friends, but there's no place like this fabulous city! The energy here is electric! I can already feel my creative juices flowing, and I have a feeling this year is going to be filled with some amazing new Tutu adventures!

This week, I'm taking you along with me on my first foray into 2017's adventures, which of course started with my trusty sidekick, the subway! Oh, the joys of riding the NYC subway - always an adventure! There's nothing quite like the clatter and clatter of the train wheels, the colourful throngs of people from all walks of life, and that unmistakable scent of...well, let's just call it New York City. ๐Ÿ’–

Speaking of New York City, this post is all about celebrating the Big Apple in my own way, with a touch of sparkle and pink tutu magic, of course!

First Things First: A New Year's Tutu Outfit!

You know I never step out of the house without my tutu, and this city deserves a very special look for a brand new year. I decided on a pale pink tulle tutu, as light and airy as a freshly-fallen snowfall (except, you know, in New York there's rarely snowโ€ฆbut still! ). The tutu is a classic ballerina shape, but with a modern twist: a cascading frill of ivory lace trim down the front and a touch of silver sequins to catch the city lights. โœจ I paired it with a fluffy, blush-coloured sweater with delicate sequin detailing and my trusty silver Mary Janes with pink ankle straps, and topped it all off with a tiny crown of pink feathers. (Okay, it might look a bit ridiculous, but I like it!) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Breakfast with the City: Sweet Treats and Broadway Dreams

New York is a city that awakens your senses, and one of the best ways to start the day is with a sweet treat. ๐Ÿง My favourite breakfast spot is a little bakery on Bleecker Street. I've become a regular, always requesting my go-to treat: a fluffy croissant with a generous smear of raspberry jam and a dollop of whipped cream. This is accompanied by a strong cup of chai tea. So delicious! โ˜•

After my breakfast, it was time for my daily dose of inspiration: a visit to the legendary Radio City Music Hall. โœจ This grand old theatre is an architectural masterpiece and has hosted so many legends - from Gene Kelly to the Rockettes - who inspired me from the time I was just a little girl dancing in Derbyshire. ๐Ÿฉฐ It just oozes with a glamour and energy that keeps me going back again and again.

I can't go to New York without seeing a show, can I? Itโ€™s in my blood. And speaking of blood, the performance of "Anastasia" was magical! It's a captivating tale set against a backdrop of dazzling costumes and a grand musical score. If you havenโ€™t seen this beautiful production yet, you've simply got to catch it. It's one of the most vibrant performances I've seen in recent months. I almost started to think I was a princess on the Russian Imperial court! โœจ But instead, I ended up a little tearful after such a stirring story about hope, courage and a beautiful little ballet scene which took place in front of the ballet bar, just for me (or so it felt!). I loved the use of the stage and how it blended ballet movements into the other dance elements, even when the ballerina was just standing there being beautifully still.

I even found a wonderful pink, sequin, wrap top in a little store near Radio City. It's destined to become one of my New York City outfit staples! ๐Ÿคฉ And I must tell you all, New York is a true paradise for pink tutu loving fashionistas!

Taking to the Streets: Ballet Inspiration Everywhere

After a whirlwind day in the city, I always find it refreshing to take a walk through Central Park. ๐ŸŒณ

The fresh air, the majestic trees, the people strolling and relaxingโ€ฆ there's a real sense of calm and tranquility even amongst the bustle. I walked across the Bow Bridge - which is always my favourite place for a moment of quiet contemplation. It's where I try to think of the ideas for the blog posts. It was where the inspiration for my "Ballet at the Park" series last spring came from! And with New York always being a constant source of creative energy for my "Pink Tutu World", I can see another series coming about. Maybe with some new ballet-inspired, pink outfits, of course. ๐Ÿ’—

Of course, no walk through the park is complete without a dance! Even if itโ€™s just a couple of twirls! There's just something about the way the sun shines on the leaves and the trees sway in the wind that sets the stage for an impromptu performance. It feels like I'm performing with the park as my audience.

It really puts you back in touch with the feeling of dancing in the open air and how exciting it all was as a little girl in the countryside back in England. But hey, let's face it, any time you can take to the street or the park or wherever and twirl is a magical thing, you just need to be sure to grab all the attention you can get when wearing your pink tutu.

A Little Reflection, a Big Dream

The day ended with a simple and relaxing treat โ€“ a large latte in the cutest coffee shop. Sitting in a quiet corner and enjoying the delicious aroma, it felt like all the experiences of the day were slowly unwinding like a delicate ballet ribbon. It was such a lovely reminder of how magical this city can be, how much beauty there is to discover, and how much there is to share with all of you, my Tutu Tribe!

Every day in this city brings new inspirations. The city, in all its colour, vibrancy and excitement, is a great reflection of myself. In New York, I really feel I can be myself - a young ballerina living the life of her dreams! I think there are so many amazing and creative things waiting for us all this year! Maybe one day, even you'll find the courage to don a pink tutu and spread a little bit of pink tutu magic wherever you go! ๐Ÿ’•

But for now, letโ€™s continue to share this beautiful journey, my dears, as always. Be kind to each other and enjoy every magical twirl, wherever your tutu journey might lead you! ๐Ÿ’–โœจ

I hope you loved reading about my New York adventure. I can't wait to share more of my journey with you in the coming weeks! Until then, stay chic, stay fabulous, and always twirl with passion!

Sending you all a sprinkle of pink tutu magic! ๐Ÿ’–

Lots of love,

Emma
