Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1132 New York, New York!

Hello darlings! Emma here, bringing you another week of Pink Tutu fun straight from the concrete jungle! I’ve just landed in New York, my head swirling with dreams of Broadway shows, delicious cupcakes, and oh, how could I forget, a whirlwind of tutu-filled shopping sprees!

This week, the Pink Tutu blog is making its triumphant return to the Big Apple! Now, you may recall from my previous adventures (yes, you can find them all archived on www.pink-tutu.com, darling!) that New York holds a very special place in my heart. The city pulsates with such energy, its streets are filled with laughter and stories, and it just makes my ballerina spirit swoon.

After my whirlwind tour of London's West End a few weeks back, I couldn’t wait to get back to the energy of New York. And my dear reader, let me tell you, I didn’t disappoint.

Right from the moment I hopped off the plane (wearing, of course, my signature pink tutu, naturally), the excitement just wouldn’t stop! My dear friend Beatrice met me at the airport, a twinkle in her eye and a knowing smile on her face. “Emma,” she chuckled, “you haven’t changed a bit! Still all about the pink and the twirling!”

And she’s right! You see, dear readers, a pink tutu is not just a piece of clothing to me, it's an emblem of happiness and joy! I believe everyone should embrace the power of pink and dance through life, with grace and a touch of je ne sais quoi.

After Beatrice's warm embrace, we jumped onto the subway (which, let's be honest, is always a fashion show in itself!), the rumble and clang of the carriages taking us straight to my hotel in midtown.

As I unpacked, I could barely contain my excitement. It was like a magical pink tutu-infused dream, my bedroom all prepped and ready for me to unpack all the things I love - from my carefully curated selection of vintage dresses to my well-loved dance shoes. I couldn't wait to hit the city, to get lost in its energy, to explore the streets of Manhattan with a Pink Tutu twist, of course.

Fashionista On The Go:

Monday was a busy day. It was like my very own Fashion Week, but with my signature touch, naturally! I headed to the famed Macy’s Herald Square, a department store wonderland with more sparkle than a ballerina's sequinned dress!

Imagine, my dear reader, my absolute glee when I found myself wandering through rows and rows of glittering shoes, each one practically begging me to dance in them! I, of course, ended up trying on several pairs – every ballerina deserves a treat, wouldn’t you say? – until my heart was stolen by a pair of coral pink stilettos that screamed my name.

They were utterly irresistible! Imagine the chic, ballerina style, the soft colour of coral, and of course, the twirling power these beauties held! I practically skipped out of the store, feeling like a princess. You know I couldn't leave without at least trying on a few dazzling tutus. You’ll just have to wait for my next blog for all the exciting fashion finds – trust me, you’re going to love them!

Food, Glorious Food!

Who would ever think I’d spend the first full day in New York hunting for cupcakes? I admit, it’s my little weakness, those sugary, fluffy clouds of pure happiness. And this city? My dear, it's a wonderland of cakes, a delightful kaleidoscope of sugar-coated treats, ready to indulge the most whimsical of souls!

Of course, I wasn't about to miss a chance to experience Magnolia Bakery – yes, the Magnolia Bakery, made famous by that delightful movie "Sex and the City". There were swirls of pastel pink and lilac frosting, all gleaming under the bright bakery lights, a masterpiece that simply demanded to be devoured! Each bite was pure heaven. And you wouldn't believe what I saw? Two giggling girls, twirling in their own adorable tutus while enjoying a slice of red velvet goodness! Oh, the joy!

After a light (but undeniably sugary) dinner, it was time for a Broadway experience! We went to see "The Lion King" at the Minskoff Theatre – pure magic! The show, darling, was breathtaking. The music, the costumes, the acting, the sheer beauty of it all was like a dream come true! The colours were so vibrant, they made my own pink tutu pale in comparison! Oh, it was simply sensational, from the elephants parading down the stage to the adorable dancing meerkats! The energy in that theatre, it was electric.

Oh! To See My Ballet Star Shine!

But for this Pink Tutu ballerina, my heart was set on a ballet performance. So on Tuesday, I was practically bursting with excitement as Beatrice and I travelled to Lincoln Center. Oh, to see The Royal Ballet perform Romeo and Juliet, what an amazing treat.

Imagine my joy seeing dancers, strong and powerful, graceful and elegant, dancing beautifully, expressing emotion and story through every turn, every step. I was transfixed, mesmerised, my very heart beating in rhythm with the music. My eyes didn't just see movement, they saw passion, story, human connection, all presented through the language of dance.

The costumes were exquisite, and the orchestra, they played with such gusto. It was almost as if every instrument whispered the story of love, tragedy, and fate. For me, it was pure perfection. And then, at the very end, there it was - a scene of perfect, gentle, tender ballet, as graceful and moving as any ballet piece I'd seen.

After all that beautiful, heart-stirring ballet, it was time to reflect and just be. Beatrice and I found a quiet little cafe where I, naturally, ordered a large slice of cherry cake and some English Breakfast tea. Oh, the joys of travelling, meeting a kindred spirit and catching up over cups of steaming tea, just reflecting on the events of the day and, yes, letting those memories of "Romeo and Juliet" whirl in my mind like a waltz in the ballroom. It truly felt like a dream come true!

Ballet, Shopping, And Broadway!

Later, I decided to take advantage of the incredible array of ballet shoes that New York has to offer. As I twirled around in several new dance shoes – each one perfectly fitting for a ballerina like me! – I felt like my dance was becoming smoother, stronger, every turn lighter than air! What more could a ballerina possibly want?

And for dinner? An evening treat from my absolute favourite bakery in New York, La Parisienne (just think, a perfect French café, the aroma of buttery croissants and the light chatter of guests, truly enchanting).

I could tell that New York was embracing my Pink Tutu love. There was something just so captivating about the way the city felt – a vibrant kaleidoscope of colors, a swirling tapestry of life, a constant ballet of motion and excitement! Even the pigeons seemed to be dancing to a rhythm only they could hear!

Wednesday dawned and, with it, a sense of adventure! My dancewear from Bloomingdale's had finally arrived, just in time for another amazing ballet class at a famous New York studio called the Steps On Broadway Dance Studio. What a fabulous morning! All of the dance classes I've taken in New York always feel so energetic. I even managed to squeeze in some impromptu ballet street performances – with Beatrice filming, of course – which was a blast!

That afternoon, I treated myself to a very special pink tutu dress – because a ballerina can never have too many tutus, right? I couldn’t help but imagine myself swirling and twirling through the city, every dance echoing with pure joy.

The day was a blur of sunshine, twirling, and shopping! Imagine, if you will, that joyous feeling of finding a pink and white gingham top with a bow at the front - so cute, it was just too adorable! And you just wouldn't believe the stylish pink sunglasses I found, just perfect for a ballerina who loves to feel like a star even when she's just out walking!

Saturday Night Delight!

New York is a city that just keeps surprising. On Saturday night, I found myself right smack-dab in the middle of a musical phenomenon, "Hamilton". Oh, darling, you just have to go see it. From the clever rap songs and ingenious plot to the incredible costumes (and yes, the costumes did involve some pink!) and the breathtaking energy, the show was completely captivating.

Of course, we found the perfect place for some after-show dessert: Ellen's Stardust Diner, with its catchy 50s music, twinkling lights, and fantastic burgers, you could tell this was an all-around treat.

Even though my trip to New York flew by in a delightful blur of dancing, shopping, and musical extravaganzas, I left the city feeling recharged and, dare I say, even more pink than ever before! This city is simply captivating! And I truly believe that everyone, yes, every single person, should experience the magic of New York and embrace the wonder of twirling!

See you next Monday, darlings! Until then, keep on twirling, and always remember, it's never too late to put on a pink tutu and let your spirit shine!
