#PinkTutuBlogNYC - New York, New York! (Post #1145)

Good morning, darlings! It's Monday, and you know what that means? Another week, another #PinkTutuBlogNYC post! 🩰💖

This week, I'm writing to you from the heart of the Big Apple - New York City! It's a whirlwind of excitement, and let me tell you, my pink tutu and I are having the time of our lives.

Now, I'll be honest, I've always been a little bit apprehensive about venturing across the pond. I mean, we all have those nervous butterflies in our tummies when embarking on something so big and new. But I was determined to take the plunge. I'm not afraid of a challenge! (Remember, I used to live in Derbyshire - think cobbled streets, rain, and a healthy dose of British eccentricity - it toughens you up a bit.) 😉

So, how did I find myself in the city that never sleeps? Well, the answer is simple - ballet, darling! This month, I've been lucky enough to perform in several captivating shows across New York City, each one a little jewel in the crown of my dancing journey. I am, after all, a freelance dancer, which means I get to travel to all sorts of exciting places and put my heart and soul into every performance. Plus, who doesn't love a bit of travel? ✈️

This week, though, we're not just about the ballet - we're all about embracing the energy and excitement of New York City. After all, a girl needs to let her hair down and have some fun!

Fashion and Flair - A #PinkTutuShopping Spree!

Now, what’s a trip to New York City without a little shopping? 🛍️ I’ll tell you - a terrible mistake! I was practically vibrating with anticipation as I set foot on Fifth Avenue, all those beautifully curated stores just beckoning me inside. It was enough to make any ballerina's head spin! I simply had to make a pitstop at Bloomingdale’s – such a classic department store! Imagine, floor after floor filled with clothing, makeup, shoes, you name it! And my dear pink tutu and I just went wild! Honestly, I could've spent days in there - it’s practically a wonderland.

There’s also the allure of Bergdorf Goodman’s. I’ll admit, it’s quite a posh spot, a veritable jewel box of fashion, so you can bet your bottom dollar I went with a little bit of sparkle and glamour. I couldn't resist a few shimmering additions to my wardrobe - some beautiful accessories to take my outfits to the next level. 💎

Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without exploring the bustling heart of the Lower East Side. The trendy vintage boutiques had me smitten – especially a quirky little shop called Threadbare Treasures, a haven for unique vintage clothing and accessories. I found some seriously gorgeous statement pieces there - perfect for that edgy, cool-girl vibe I’m after. ✨ I managed to pick up a stunning oversized silk scarf in shades of amethyst, emerald and sapphire – you just have to get your hands on vintage silk when you have the opportunity, don’t you? I’m planning to wear it around my neck for my evening outings, with my ballet bun pulled back nice and neat. It will give a bit of elegance and old-world charm to a pink tutu! 💕

The Heart of New York - Culture and Colour

After indulging in the fabulous fashion world, I needed a change of pace, something a little more down-to-earth. So I decided to immerse myself in the culture of New York, heading down to the Lower East Side to explore the vibrant street art. There’s an energy about it, something wonderfully creative. Graffiti art is not just for the “ghetto” - you get beautiful colours and artistic flair from skilled, accomplished artists who have chosen a unique and beautiful medium for their work. It was inspiring! 🎨

Later on, I decided to soak up some Broadway magic. The lights are just as enchanting as they sound, glittering on the billboards in the darkness.

And of course, no visit to New York is complete without a trip to Times Square, the centre of the world. You can’t miss it, and for good reason - there's an electric energy there, pulsating through every fibre of your being. I don't know why, but the sheer scale of it all makes me feel absolutely tiny!

But then again, when I’m in New York, with my bright pink tutu, I try to remember that I’m a beacon of positive energy and joy amidst the chaos of the city. Like a single pink tutu in a sea of black!

Food and Frenzy

Now, no exploration of a city would be complete without indulging in its culinary scene, wouldn't you agree? New York is a true foodie paradise - from authentic pizza to exotic Asian cuisine, the variety is simply staggering. 🍕🍣

My personal highlight this week? I was so delighted to finally discover La Parisienne. It’s one of New York’s most sought-after restaurants. Imagine - a cozy little spot with elegant Parisian décor, where I had a mouth-watering chicken Caesar salad. I mean, when in New York, right?! You can’t leave without a taste of this legendary delicacy!

My evening ended at Black Tap. It’s become a very popular NYC institution – think gigantic milkshakes topped with donuts, waffles and candies. I ordered their Strawberry Shortcake milkshake – you just have to experience it to understand! 🍰 It was like a taste of paradise, even if I didn't have space for much of it!

Of course, I’m not above indulging in some fast food delights – after all, a ballet girl needs all the energy she can get. So I’m planning a treat for myself - a cheeky little cheeseburger and fries!

Adventures of a #PinkTutuDancer

This week, however, we’re not just about the sights and the fashion - it's about discovering a city through its heart, and its passion for dancing! It's the very thing that brought me here, after all!

I've been lucky enough to spend time at The Ailey School and even witnessed an amazing class at the New York City Ballet, seeing their stunning training and dedication first-hand. Honestly, I’ve never been more inspired in my life! And the students? So enthusiastic and talented!

I'm also planning a visit to the Metropolitan Opera – just think of all that incredible music! It's been on my "must-see" list for ages, and the opportunity to experience an opera at a venue like this feels very special! Opera doesn't always feel my thing, but a New Yorker wouldn’t feel complete without a trip! Perhaps it will awaken my inner diva?

*And of course, I'm making sure to document all the amazingness of New York City, sharing my pink tutu journey with you! I've already been taking loads of pics for Instagram - #PinkTutuNYC! If you’re in the area and want to connect, just leave a comment, and we can meet for a dance session – or just for a delicious slice of pizza! 🍕 *

Why wear pink tutus, darling?

Oh, and as for why I insist on wearing my pink tutu all over the city, let’s just say it’s about more than just looking cute and girly. Of course, that part's fun. But it's a way for me to share some of the joy and happiness I feel for dance with everyone around me. Because pink tutus are an infectious dose of positivity, don't you think? They make me feel alive, empowered, and oh-so-confident! And I'm determined to spread the love! 💖

So, that's all for this week's #PinkTutuBlogNYC. Stay tuned, my darling, because next week we’re exploring even more of what this magnificent city has to offer, so make sure to check back next Monday for an extra helping of Pink Tutu fun. 💖

See you there!

P.S - Don't forget to wear a pink tutu when you come see me dance in New York! It’s the perfect outfit for an enchanting evening. 🩰✨
