Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #1181 – A Whirlwind of Pink in the Big Apple! 🩰

Hello my lovely pink-tutu-loving darlings! It's Monday again, which means another week in the Big Apple, and you know what that means - a brand new #PinkTutuBlogNYC post!

This week, I’ve been twirling through the concrete jungle in a dizzying whirl of ballet shows, Broadway magic, and some seriously fabulous shopping. The past seven days have been filled with pink tulle dreams and New York magic – and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

From Derbyshire to the Big Apple:

Oh, how I love New York City. This place truly embodies the glamour and sparkle that I live for! And let’s face it, what’s a pink tutu blogger to do in the city that never sleeps, other than dance her way through the most dazzling destinations?

You might think this week was all about the grand theatre of Broadway and the majesty of Lincoln Center – and you’d be right. But my trip wouldn’t be complete without venturing into the heart of Manhattan’s iconic fashion scene. And oh, my dear friends, it did not disappoint!

Twirling through the Garment District:

Who could resist a good trip to the Garment District? This week, my favourite pink tutu paired with a bright pink fluffy cardi had me feeling as if I stepped out of a Barbie movie. From my perspective, there is no other garment in the world that deserves the same love and appreciation as tulle. And the fabric is everywhere you look in the Garment District, even when you least expect it! It truly is a tulle wonderland.

As soon as I stepped into this bustling neighbourhood, I could practically smell the creativity brewing in the air, all those seamstresses at their machines… my head just began to spin! But don’t get me wrong, it was a wonderful feeling.

I swear I spent a good hour just staring at the rows upon rows of sequins and feathers - I think I spotted some very intriguing feather boas too, but I’m just a little nervous about attempting that particular style – feathers are tricky. They seem very dramatic, but do they actually compliment a tutu? Hmm…

A Moment of Magic at the Met:

You can’t be in New York without stepping into the Metropolitan Museum of Art! Of course, the highlight of my visit was the Costume Institute's exhibition: A Mirror of Fashion.

Honestly, I'd forgotten how breathtaking and intricate a garment could be.

It got me thinking about the beauty of dress – the ability of fabric and design to transform not just a body, but the way we move through the world. It’s something we often take for granted but it’s such a beautiful expression of artistry. It was just so inspirational, I could practically hear a hundred pink tutu designs forming in my head!

The Theatre’s Enchantment:

As if Broadway wasn’t glamorous enough on its own, the magic of the theatre was just breathtaking! This week, I went to see "Wicked," a show so full of sparkle and magic it would make any fairy princess cry a tear of joy. But even more, I was excited about visiting the famous Majestic Theatre which is a historical beauty with stunning Art Deco designs!

It wasn't just the glamour that stole my heart – the theatre has a soul. Every time the curtain goes up and the music starts, there’s an energy in the air. It's almost impossible to be in the audience without being swept up in the emotions of the story unfolding before you.

And that energy, the magic of the theatre – it was reflected perfectly on my face! I can’t help it, I am such a huge theatre fan – every show makes me dream in pink tulle!

Ballet Ballet and More Ballet:

Now, every #PinkTutuBlogNYC trip wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Lincoln Center for a dose of pure balletic magic.

You might be thinking this blog is simply just me raving about pink tutus all day, right? Well, you’d be partially right, because that’s truly what I do! It's not a hobby – it’s a way of life! And that is exactly how I was feeling at the New York City Ballet performance at the Lincoln Center this week. They simply put on one of the best shows I have ever seen – a blend of artistry and technique I just don't get back in England. And you’d be right! The skill these dancers display just takes your breath away, the lightness and precision… the ability to dance, seemingly effortlessly, with the perfect posture - pure joy, and with such a sense of artistry.

From my spot in the front row, I was lost in the world of classical ballet, I couldn't help but take my favourite pink tutu into consideration, and what sort of dancing style would best compliment it? My dreams are a whirring storm of swirling tutus and graceful dancers.

Subway Travels:

Who needs taxis, when you can dance your way through the city on the Metro! And just look at that vintage style - so glamorous!

Don’t get me wrong, the New York subway can be crowded at peak hour, and yes it does have its quirks – it is the busiest metro system in the whole of North America! The whole vibe was quite an experience; people rushing and weaving their way through a crowd, dodging prams, carrying huge shopping bags, chatting, and talking, while somehow managing to read the latest edition of The New Yorker or even worse, apply makeup while balancing a coffee. And on the days that I've chosen to use the Metro, there was never any chance of a tutu being noticed! It would've been trampled upon by the multitude of shoe types; stiletto, stiletto heels, Dr. Martens, Chelsea boots, and those shoes with the huge soles!

I can’t help but be reminded that fashion has no limit. This place inspires you in a way I’ve never experienced back in England. The best part – it feels so relaxed, and even the oddest outfit – feels just normal. I mean, we have to embrace all our passions in this city.

But what has the week in New York really taught me? Just be yourself, express yourself! Because it doesn't matter what the fashion is, it is about showing off your passion - with a hint of a pink tutu… naturally!

Well, my darlings, it’s time to call it a night and I’m about to climb into my ballerina bed – the pink sheets are already prepared! I am about to fall into a sweet ballet dream…
