This week, I'm back in New York City, the city that never sleeps – and neither do I when it comes to finding fabulous ballet experiences and sharing them with you all. 💖
I've got so much to tell you about my trip! From breathtaking ballet performances to shopping adventures that sent my inner fashionista into a joyful spin, this trip has been a whirlwind of glitz, glamour, and grace. And let's not forget the most important element of all: the pink tutus! Because let's face it, no adventure is complete without a touch of pink-tutu magic, wouldn't you agree?
A Derbyshire Girl Takes On The Big Apple:
This trip, like many others, was funded by my passion for dance. I've had a busy few weeks back in the UK performing with a local company. Each pirouette, each graceful leap, brought me closer to my dream – a trip to the City that Never Sleeps! 🏙️
This week, I was absolutely thrilled to be back in NYC! It's always such a special feeling to arrive back in this magical city, with its vibrant energy, its endless opportunities for cultural discovery, and of course, its iconic skyline – just begging to be explored from the comfort of my pink tutu! ✨
The Metro, My Ballerina-Friendly Carriage:
You know me, I love the Metro! This city's subway is my favourite way to get around. You never know who you might bump into, what amazing sights you might stumble upon, and best of all, it allows me to blend in effortlessly amongst the locals, my tutu floating gracefully through the carriage like a vision of Parisian chic! 💅
Pink-Tutu Adventures on the Streets of NYC:
Once I'd settled into my hotel – and by 'settled in', I of course mean taken approximately twenty photos of myself in my pink tutu in every possible corner of the room – it was time to hit the streets!
The air was electric, with a sense of possibility and endless adventures waiting around every corner. I took my trusty pink tutu with me, of course! It never leaves my side! This week's tutu was a lovely baby pink, adorned with delicate lace and shimmering sequins – a perfect balance of delicate and bold for a day of exploring the vibrant energy of the city that never sleeps.
Catching A Broadway Show in My Tutu!
I simply had to catch a Broadway show on this trip! New York City is practically the birthplace of musical theater, and no trip here would be complete without witnessing the magic of a Broadway show! 🎭
And what better way to celebrate this magical evening than by adding my own special touch: A custom pink tutu adorned with tiny silver sequins and a single feather – just for a touch of that "Broadway-fabulous" glamour! 💖✨
I picked a show with a strong musical score – Hamilton, of course! I simply love the storytelling in it and the powerful score – just the perfect mix of history and romance! The performance was phenomenal, every song had my toes tapping, every note filling me with joy, and it's honestly inspiring to see such dedication to performance art right in front of your very eyes. You could literally see the love and dedication of each performer right down to their toes!
And if you haven't caught a Broadway show, let me tell you, there's really no feeling like it! So, my lovelies, add a Broadway show to your own 'must-do' list – you won't regret it. The incredible costumes, the musical numbers, the raw talent, it's a magical night out. And if you dare, add your own pink tutu magic to the evening – just like I did! 😉
A Tutu-licious Ballet Show at the New York City Ballet!
Okay, this is it. The one we've all been waiting for – my trip to the New York City Ballet! It's honestly an institution in the world of dance, with world-class performances, legendary choreographers, and the most incredible dancers I've ever witnessed. 🩰
As any self-respecting ballerina blogger knows, a visit to NYC means attending the New York City Ballet. And to do it right, you must be wearing your most dazzling pink tutu, ready to soak up all the dance magic, every move, every nuance of each performance. I chose my lucky tutu – the one with the little feather. It’s become a bit of a signature look. 😉
The New York City Ballet itself is just an iconic place. Imagine it: opulent architecture, world-renowned performers, and just a sense of history that is truly electrifying. It makes your heart beat just that little bit faster. And you know me, I simply love anything steeped in history!
The evening's program featured some of the great names of ballet, like Jerome Robbins' "Afternoon of a Faun" – it's like watching a modern-day masterpiece unfolding right before your very eyes! And you really can feel the artistic and historical significance of this piece just by the way everyone in the theatre watched in hushed awe. 🤫
Then, the dancers performed "The Four Temperaments" - I was in awe! You could practically feel the different 'temperaments' coming through from the different ballerinas! I truly couldn't keep still during the piece, I was entranced. And it made me yearn to return to ballet classes myself – which I'm definitely doing when I return to Derbyshire. 😉
Ballet-Inspired Fashion Fun in The City That Never Sleeps:
You know me, I’m a sucker for a great dress! I absolutely adore shopping. From vintage finds in the East Village to high-end designer boutiques, New York City is a fashion haven! It's not just the designer labels - it's also about unique style, finding something special that will express your own individual look, your own 'vibe', as they say. ✨
I made a pitstop at Bergdorf Goodman. They have an amazing collection of designer clothes, shoes and bags - my inner shopaholic just went crazy in there. Of course, I had to check out the latest shoes – it wouldn’t be a trip to NYC without doing so, would it? 😉
I’m not usually much of a shoe girl, I’ll admit it, but for some reason, when you walk into those kinds of shoe shops, you have to try everything on! And I just fell in love with a pair of exquisite stiletto pumps, delicate, beautiful, and of course… a pale pink! They just perfectly echoed the romantic essence of my pink tutu – a perfect addition to my New York wardrobe! 👠
But what's even more magical about this city is that its streets themselves become a giant fashion runway! Every corner is full of colour, style, and most importantly, individuals embracing their own personal flair! From sleek city girls in power suits, to hip-hop street style icons, it truly feels like everyone gets a chance to express themselves through the clothes they wear, just as I try to do through my beloved pink tutu! ✨
Time for a pink-tutu photoshoot in Central Park!
What would a trip to New York City be without a stroll through Central Park? And what better place to take photos in my pink tutu?! 🗽
Central Park really is the green heart of New York City, a beautiful contrast to the skyscrapers surrounding it, offering a place for a bit of peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
My favourite area is Strawberry Fields – you might guess why - the peace, the tranquillity, the green expanse. I found myself sitting there for a long time, thinking, reflecting on all that is magical about New York and how inspiring it is. The city seems to attract people who dare to dream. That is something I want to hold onto – to never be afraid to be who I am and dream big! 💖
And of course, a walk in Central Park simply wouldn't be complete without a photoshoot in my pink tutu! Every photo I took brought out the essence of a fairy tale, with me twirling in the midst of the iconic New York scenery. And hey, why not! The magic is in the details, my darlings! 😉
A Fond Farewell To The Big Apple - Until Next Time!
I’m flying back to the UK tonight! This has been another incredible New York adventure! Every step I’ve taken has brought new experiences and new discoveries, from ballet magic to fashion treasures. And through it all, my beloved pink tutu has been by my side.
One thing’s for sure: it will be hard to say goodbye! New York City never fails to inspire and spark joy – and I truly feel that every trip here adds to my own creativity and makes me want to share this joy with the world, with all you lovely people who are part of my pink-tutu tribe. 😉
