Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #1254 - New York City Dreaming, Ballet Bound, and A Tutuful Time!
Monday, June 17th, 2019
Darling readers, I hope you’re all having a simply delightful week! Mine has been a whirlwind of New York City adventures, fuelled by the energy of the city and the joy of following my passion – dancing!
It's a truth universally acknowledged that New York City is a place that can make you feel utterly alive, and this week I’ve been feeling it more than ever. This week I had the privilege of performing with the amazing City Dance Theater, a company filled with such talent and energy. The performance was magical, a blend of modern and traditional ballet, leaving me buzzing with creative inspiration and a sprinkle of stage dust (it's definitely a real thing).
Of course, before I took to the stage, I had to make sure I was looking my very best. The dress code for the City Dance Theater, luckily for me, has always been open to the unconventional, so I opted for a sparkling blush pink leotard and tutu combo, my own little personal tribute to the vibrant energy of the city!
Speaking of being vibrant, did you know that the New York Public Library’s main branch is hosting an exhibition on the work of Henri Matisse? This just had to be seen by a lover of all things bright and beautiful like myself, so I popped in between rehearsals, captivated by the colours and his unique artistic vision. What I found even more enchanting, was a tiny shop with curated gifts that featured Matisse prints! It was hard not to indulge!
I also indulged in some well-deserved shopping therapy along the avenues! What a joy it was to flit through the department stores of New York, picking up new and fabulously stylish ballet wear for the summer season. You wouldn’t believe the pink shoes I managed to snaffle, oh the excitement! They even sparkle, it's ridiculous, darling! But just imagine the twinkle on stage, perfect for a dancing fairy princess.
After the show, the city came alive with excitement for the annual Brooklyn Flea Market. Oh my, the vintage treasures, the handcrafted delights, and, dare I say, even the odd quirky pink tutu, made it a treasure hunt extraordinaire.
I can’t think of a more wonderful way to celebrate a day of dancing in the city than a stroll through this bohemian paradise. My loot included a stunning antique cameo brooch and a tiny teapot with hand-painted blooms in, of course, a stunning shade of pink!
A final dose of the enchanting this week, was attending a performance of “Swan Lake" at the iconic Lincoln Center. Seeing it performed in this majestic venue was a breathtaking experience, from the glittering chandeliers to the exquisite movements of the dancers. The performance, for me, encapsulated everything about my love for ballet, grace, artistry, and pure emotional power, wrapped up in the magical aura of a timeless tale.
But beyond the magic of performance and the sparkle of shopping, it’s the everyday experiences of the city that I find the most captivating. Taking a morning metro ride down Broadway with my copy of “Pride and Prejudice,” seeing the world outside zoom by as I immerse myself in a captivating world of love and witty banter. Or, catching up on my latest blog posts, sipping an almond milk latte at my favorite cafe, a charming nook nestled in the vibrant Chelsea district, complete with a pink, velvet armchair and a perfectly manicured windowsill for a little dose of vitamin D!
All of this has fueled a creative fire in my heart, inspiring me to work on a new piece for my upcoming solo performance, exploring the relationship between dance and the beautiful vibrancy of the New York City spirit!
The joy of travel lies not only in the destinations but in the moments of pure joy, found in the little things, the simple pleasures, and the feeling of discovering something new, something unexpected, something magical, all while twirling in my favorite pink tutu, and leaving a sprinkle of fairy dust along the way!
My adventures in New York are just beginning! And my little pink tutu is coming along for the ride, spreading a message of joy and reminding us all to never stop believing in the magic of dreaming. Until next week, my darling readers, remember to embrace the little things, the big dreams, and never, ever, stop dancing.
Lots of love and pink tutu-fuls, Emma
