Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #1264 - Monday, 2019-08-26 - She Danced in New York City!
Hello my darling tutus! It's Monday morning, and Emma is back with a fresh blast of pink and fabulous from the Big Apple! 🍎🗽
This week, I'm taking you on a whirlwind tour of a truly magical New York experience - one that involved sequins, spins, and a whole lotta pink, of course!
A Ballet-tastic Trip to the City that Never Sleeps
I’ve always said that New York is the city that never sleeps, but it’s also the city that never stops dancing! I touched down in JFK on Thursday with my trusty pink tutu suitcase (you know, the one with the little ballet shoes on the front?) and I was buzzing with excitement. I’ve always been a city girl at heart, even though I’m originally from Derbyshire, and NYC holds a special place in my heart. It's a melting pot of creativity, where anything goes, and the energy is absolutely electrifying.
After I checked into my swish boutique hotel (I just couldn’t resist a room with a pink and gold colour scheme), I made a beeline for my first stop – a ballet performance at the beautiful Joyce Theatre. This little gem is tucked away on the Upper East Side, and it has a charm all of its own. It was a modern dance performance that really blew me away, showcasing some stunning choreography and incredible athleticism. And wouldn't you know it, my front-row seat came with the most perfect view of the dancers' tutus - which, naturally, were pink!
Fashion, Food & Fun
After the performance, I took a quick hop on the subway, a.k.a. the New York Metro (such a classic!) and headed down to SoHo for a little shopping spree. As much as I love dancing, I've also got a passion for fashion, and NYC is truly the place to indulge that love. SoHo was abuzz with designers and independent boutiques, and I managed to snag myself a few pretty pink dresses that I can't wait to flaunt. Let's just say that the perfect outfit is non-negotiable when it comes to taking on the NYC dance scene!
Dinner that night was at a charming little bistro on the Upper West Side, where I enjoyed the most decadent salmon with lemon dill sauce (which, of course, I had to order alongside a glass of rosé). Then, I wandered over to Central Park for a stroll under the stars – NYC at night is something special!
The City of Dreams...and Pink TutUs
Friday was a day of exploration. First up, a trip to Times Square, which truly lived up to the hype. It was like stepping into a movie, with its massive billboards, flashing lights, and the cacophony of energy that vibrates throughout the area. Later that afternoon, I treated myself to a manicure, of course in the most fabulous shade of pink, because who can resist a little self-indulgence in the city that never sleeps?
Saturday, I finally had the opportunity to attend a ballet class! My body was already warmed up from the performance I saw, but let me tell you, New York City ballet is in a class of its own. I mean, can you even imagine how many dancers live here, practicing day and night? My muscles may have felt a little stiff after, but my spirit was filled with excitement, and that's a feeling I love to take with me everywhere I go!
My NYC trip wasn't just about dance and fashion though - I wanted to really soak up the city's history. So on Saturday afternoon, I headed down to Greenwich Village, the historic neighbourhood where so much artistic energy has sprung up over the years. The cobbled streets were lined with quirky boutiques, street musicians, and the delicious smells of cafes and restaurants, making it feel like an explosion of vibrancy.
Sharing the Love with My New York Family
One of the things I love about travelling to new cities is connecting with other dancers. You just can’t help but bump into some amazing talent. During my trip, I met a delightful group of dancers, who became instant friends. We talked about ballet, music, and of course, our favourite places to find the best pink tutus. They’re all so passionate about dance and it was so inspiring to meet other people who live for it like I do!
Saturday evening, we all went to a Broadway show together - and you guys, it was a blast! I'll admit, I've got a little bit of a thing for shows – especially musical ones. After all, it's a chance to see top-notch choreography and dance alongside spectacular costumes. We had a great time laughing, singing, and of course, clapping our little pink tutu-clad hearts out!
Sunday brought the ultimate New York brunch experience: Eggs Benedict, bottomless mimosas, and a healthy dose of people watching in Central Park. It's impossible to not smile when surrounded by such joy and beauty. We took a bunch of silly photos with a very enthusiastic group of pigeons - and yes, my tutu was pink, and I managed to get some very Instagrammable snaps!
Sharing the Magic with You
That evening, I caught a last glimpse of the sunset over the Hudson River as I made my way back to the airport. Leaving the Big Apple is always a bittersweet experience - the memories are magical, and I always return home with a burst of inspiration.
You know, it's interesting because while some people might look at the big city as a place of chaos, I find it absolutely intoxicating! The constant buzz, the colourful crowds, the never-ending stories and experiences - it's like a whirlwind of energy that sweeps you off your feet and carries you away. And for me, a dancer, there's just no better place in the world to be swept away by that feeling.
Until next week, my darlings.
