Pink Tutu Blog: NYC – Post 1270 - 7th October 2019

Hello lovelies!

It's Monday, which means a fresh start and a new Pink Tutu Blog post, and oh my goodness, do I have a corker for you today! I'm writing to you live from New York City, a whirlwind of bright lights, dazzling dreams, and a sprinkle of that famous Manhattan magic.

It’s my twelfth visit to this incredible city and it still feels like the first!

Now, where to begin?! My head is swimming with so many amazing sights and sounds!

But let’s go back to the beginning shall we? My journey to the Big Apple started in London with the usual chaos of packing, and, let's be honest, deciding which outfit will make the best first impression. There were a lot of outfit choices.

Ultimately, a beautiful blush-pink tulle skirt was chosen (of course), which is, in my opinion, always a perfect choice. My heart knew it wouldn’t fail me! I chose to team it with a simple ivory crop top and a light beige blazer. Now I was ready to rock!

The train ride was uneventful and a bit sleepy - the sheer excitement of this trip was getting to me. As I approached Manhattan, all I could think about was ballet and all the possibilities that New York could bring. The subway ride took me through all sorts of iconic landmarks, which were exciting, even though I was feeling exhausted and a little lost in the hustle and bustle!

Finally, after a brief rest, I was raring to go and ventured out, fuelled by a giant slice of New York pizza. I don’t know what it is about the pizzas here, but they’re so utterly divine. I just had to! I have to try every type of food when I'm in a new city, don't you?

My first adventure in New York was the absolute joy of going to a matinee of 'An American in Paris' at the beautiful and famous Broadway Theatre. Now, if you don’t know already, this is one of my favourite shows in the world and seeing it in New York City felt like I'd gone back in time!

You might already know this, but my ultimate dream is to grace the stage of Broadway one day – just imagine dancing in a pink tutu to the applause of thousands of people!

What’s on today in New York City?

After a lovely lunch (I chose avocado on toast today, I don’t know what it is, but it's my favourite food right now), I decided it was time to head to the glorious Lincoln Center, an arts paradise in the heart of New York. It’s just stunning! So much to see and do! You’ve got the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, the New York Philharmonic and many other amazing spaces.

My goal today? I went to the beautiful and glamorous David H. Koch Theater. You have to admit that’s a fab name! This is home to the prestigious New York City Ballet and where I’m heading. The building itself is stunning and was originally known as the New York State Theater.

But the star of the show? A truly divine ballet performance by the New York City Ballet of 'Symphony in C'. This was an incredibly beautiful show from George Balanchine. As I said before, New York City always has the most fabulous dance shows going on - if you are a ballet fanatic like me then it's a must visit.

One thing I love about 'Symphony in C' is that the costumes are beautiful - a classic design - and remind me of why I fell in love with ballet in the first place! It’s quite simple, you know - the ballerinas wear pretty white skirts, delicate bodice tops with pink floral details and light brown ballet shoes - simple but incredibly effective and elegant.

In between exploring the gorgeous Lincoln Center I stopped to take in the sights of Columbus Circle which always blows me away - there’s so much history to take in and the sheer number of people rushing past is pretty impressive! After my fabulous afternoon, I headed to the American Girl Place store – of course! It's a girly paradise. It’s a must for any pink tutu-wearing fashionista and I just had to stock up on more pink hair clips and a stunning tutu. I'll add photos of the newest pink items I bought later this week.

This evening, it’s time to see a performance at the Met Opera, with their version of Wagner’s Die Walküre! It was such a good night out and there is always a special kind of magic at the Met. It’s another must-do for any art lover who wants to get immersed in classical culture and tradition,

I took my seat, I just had to find one in the Dress Circle! I adore how glamorous this seat feels and I couldn’t resist grabbing some pre-show champagne! All the opera-lovers look so chic. It’s the epitome of glamour! The music was so stunning – especially Wagner, such an amazing piece!

I’m feeling super inspired after two great performances - how exciting is that? The last few days have really made me realise why I love New York so much - its energy and atmosphere just lifts you right up. Every corner is a discovery - even a hotdog stall has the potential to be a magical experience in this city. And for me, the cherry on top was taking a couple of rides on the New York City subway - what an adventure!

To finish my day - and to round up this week's post, it has to be shopping! After the opera it’s time for retail therapy - and, oh my gosh, this city has the best stores in the world. From Tiffany’s to Hermès, and just about every designer shop imaginable - I know where I’ll be heading for some fabulous shopping next week!

You can guarantee I'll have a few shopping posts to come! The city feels alive, bright, and exhilarating - what more could you ask for!

So that was my New York Monday, filled with the ultimate girly delight of dancing, glamorous clothes and exciting adventure!

Until next Monday!

Lots of Love, Emma.
