Pink Tutu Blog: NYC - Monday 2019-11-25 (Post #1277)

Hello lovelies! 🩰

It's Monday, and you know what that means - it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog: NYC adventure! I'm so excited to share this week's shenanigans with you all.

This past week has been a whirl of pink tutus, fabulous shows, and enough shopping to satisfy even the most discerning fashionista (that's me!). My travels have taken me across the concrete jungle, from the glamorous avenues of Midtown to the charming cobblestone streets of Greenwich Village, and everything in between. And, of course, no trip is complete without a jaunt on the city's iconic subway system – a perfect way to get a glimpse of New York City life from a different angle.

But before I delve into all the fun, let me tell you about my outfit! It's a brand-new, bubblegum pink tutu, sourced from a delightful vintage shop in the East Village – can you believe it?! It's so fluffy and gorgeous, and it twirls like a dream. I paired it with a cream cashmere jumper for a touch of warmth (it's definitely getting chilly here!), and my trusty, over-the-knee pink suede boots. Honestly, the compliments on the street have been absolutely non-stop – it seems New Yorkers are just as in love with tutus as I am! 😉

Now, let's get back to my adventures...

The Ballet: A Breathtaking Evening of Elegance

One of the highlights of my trip was undoubtedly attending a ballet performance at the Lincoln Center, a stunning venue known for hosting world-class shows. This time around, it was The Nutcracker, a true Christmas classic. 🎄

Watching the talented dancers glide across the stage in their exquisite costumes was simply magical. From the playful energy of the Sugar Plum Fairy to the strength and grace of the lead ballerinas, it was a visual treat unlike any other.

You know me, I couldn't resist donning a sparkling, festive headband to the show! After all, a bit of sparkle always adds to the magic, right? I even snagged a limited edition Nutcracker program adorned with beautiful illustrations. It’s a lovely reminder of a truly magical night!

The Fashion Fix: Exploring New York's Designer Hub

Next on the agenda was a trip to the Fifth Avenue – the epitome of luxury fashion! From Chanel to Gucci, Prada to Tiffany, I had my fill of exquisite window displays and the sheer artistry of fashion. It’s hard not to feel inspired in a place where every storefront exudes glamour.

I couldn’t leave without venturing inside a few boutiques, naturally. 🤫 I treated myself to a luxurious scarf from a small designer boutique on the corner of 57th Street - its rich, emerald colour and delicate floral print are just heavenly. I’m absolutely in love!

The Artistic Exploration: Discovering the Met

It's not just the fashion that's alluring in this city – New York boasts some incredible museums and art galleries, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art was calling my name! 🏛️

Stepping into the Met was a truly breathtaking experience. It’s a vast treasure trove of art, history, and culture – you could easily spend days exploring its captivating galleries and exhibits.

My personal favourite? The breathtaking collection of Ancient Egyptian art. I could get lost in its sheer grandeur and detailed craftsmanship for hours.

After my art exploration, I indulged in a decadent cup of hot chocolate in the museum cafe - the perfect way to warm up and recharge before tackling more artistic adventures!

The Local Vibe: Discovering Greenwich Village

No visit to New York City is complete without experiencing the bohemian charm of Greenwich Village. This vibrant neighborhood with its cobbled streets, quaint boutiques, and independent cafes is the heart of creativity and individuality. I loved the colourful graffiti art lining the alleyways, and the charming independent shops bursting with unique finds.

While wandering around Greenwich Village, I came across the most darling bookstore. You can't miss it - the facade is painted in a stunning shade of pink, my absolute favourite colour! It was bursting with literary treasures – I just couldn't resist buying a vintage first edition of Anne of Green Gables – a perfect souvenir of my trip!

The Dance Inspiration: Ballet Classes and Performances

I’m a firm believer in combining my passions. So, you can bet I squeezed in some ballet class while I was in New York! 💃

It was exhilarating to explore different dance styles and studios – it’s amazing what I’ve learned about myself, not to mention discovering some incredible talent in the city that never sleeps.

There’s nothing quite like seeing talented ballerinas performing in a small studio. It reminds me that the magic of dance is not just about grand stages, but about the joy and connection found in the movement itself.

One evening, I stumbled upon a street performance - an impromptu ballet recital set to a soulful jazz soundtrack in Washington Square Park. The dancers’ energy was contagious, and the atmosphere was electrifying! I truly felt inspired to move my feet! And of course, I danced along!

The Subway Sojourn: Exploring New York's Underground Network

Navigating the subway is a New York City rite of passage, and it's an experience that's totally unique to this city. It's a whirlwind of colours, sounds, and aromas - and you never know what characters you might encounter.

To add some sparkle to my commute, I opted for my sparkling, candy-pink hairband, accessorising it with my latest Pink Tutu sticker! My fellow passengers seemed amused, with some even waving and giving me the thumbs-up – spreading a bit of pink tutu joy around New York. 😊

One morning, while rushing to my ballet class, I ended up on a train car decorated entirely in vibrant murals – it was such a cool surprise!

The New York Dream: From Derbyshire to the Big Apple

It's easy to see why so many people fall in love with New York. This city pulsates with energy, constantly evolving and reinventing itself. The mix of old and new, the blending of cultures, the diversity, and the vibrant arts scene - it's impossible not to feel a sense of inspiration.

Being here reminds me why I embarked on this whole Pink Tutu journey in the first place. Growing up in Derbyshire, a world away from the dazzling lights of Broadway, I never dreamed I'd be chasing my passions in a city like New York.

It’s been an incredible adventure - exploring the city’s hidden gems, getting lost in museums, dancing to my heart’s content, and experiencing a truly different side of myself. It’s something I’ll always cherish, and a reminder that with enough passion and a bit of pink tulle, dreams truly can come true!

But now, back to my little apartment in Greenwich Village. There's a mountain of washing to be done, but I can't help but think that, come Monday morning, my New York adventure will begin anew… until next week, stay fabulous and spread the pink tutu love! 💖
