Pink Tutu Adventures in the Big Apple!

#PinkTutuBlogNYC - Post #1302 - Monday, May 18th, 2020

Hello, darling tutus! I'm writing to you live from the vibrant heart of New York City! I’m so excited to share this week's adventures, especially as it was packed with fantastic shows, some rather dazzling shopping discoveries and the most beautiful spring weather I could have dreamed of.

As always, my pink tutu was my faithful companion - a splash of colour amidst the city's monochrome chaos. After all, I truly believe the world needs a touch of pink tutus to bring some magic to the everyday. It’s my life’s work, you know, spreading the pink tutu gospel far and wide.

Now, you’ll have to forgive me if I rave a bit - this trip to New York was simply fabulous. As a seasoned ballet aficionado (and an absolute addict, let's be honest), the chance to catch some world-class performances was simply too tempting to resist. My trip started with the exhilarating rush of the New York City Ballet - it was like watching an explosion of athleticism and grace!

Let me tell you, watching those dancers perform at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center left me utterly speechless. It’s been years since I've seen such beautiful classical ballet, it truly brought back happy memories of watching my favourite shows as a little girl at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Such incredible energy and precision; they were all just breathtaking.

Speaking of energy, after the ballet performance I did something utterly extravagant - I headed for a spot of dinner and a little dancing myself at the Salsa at the Park event at Madison Square Park! It's safe to say it wasn't quite as elegant as the NYC Ballet, but it was definitely more energetic and, dare I say, much more fun! Let's just say, the whole event was an explosion of joy. With the vibrant mix of dancers, the joyous music and the feeling of togetherness, it left me absolutely buzzing. I wouldn't mind mastering the art of the salsa one day myself... maybe even in a pink tutu. Why not, right?

The next day, feeling invigorated by all that dancing, I had an absolutely divine time indulging in some seriously fabulous fashion. You know I can't go to New York without indulging in a spot of shopping, and trust me, this city does not disappoint.

Oh, my darlings, it was an absolute fashion extravaganza. My first stop was the legendary Bergdorf Goodman on 5th Avenue. I'm talking luxurious brands, breathtaking window displays and more shoes than I could ever dream of. It felt like a fairytale. Imagine my delight when I found the most adorable pink tutu (and it even matched my handbag!)! Now that's what I call shopping heaven! I may have overspent a tad, but the memory of my perfectly coordinated pink outfit is worth every penny, trust me!

As I was feeling rather adventurous, I decided to try out some other gems nestled between the Manhattan behemoths. Let me tell you, New York is like an enchanted rabbit hole full of treasures just waiting to be discovered. This trip, I stumbled upon an absolutely stunning boutique called Atelier Crenn in Tribeca. They were featuring the most divine contemporary designs; a whole collection of colourful silk fabrics. Imagine my absolute delight when I discovered their range of hand-painted pink silk scarves featuring whimsical pink ballerina sketches! They were too perfect to resist! Of course, I couldn’t leave without snagging a few (maybe a dozen…) as gifts for my dearest tutu-loving friends back home in Derbyshire. You know, you can’t have enough pink tutus in your life!

After a whirlwind day of exploring the city, it was time for a bit of self-care. I'm not going to lie, a pink tutu takes its toll sometimes, especially in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of Manhattan! I've found that the best way to recover is a bit of relaxation in one of the many hidden gems that New York offers. This trip, I stumbled upon this amazing wellness studio called Yoga to the People. Imagine a studio bathed in warm pink light with gorgeous views of the city skyline - it’s an oasis of peace and tranquility. As much as I adore all that twirling and dancing, it’s great to be able to recharge in a relaxing way, and to give my body the rest it needs.

I don’t know if it's the delicious New York pizza or the fresh spring air, but I always feel incredibly energised when I visit. The vibrant streets just hum with a constant buzz of energy. But New York isn’t just about fashion, dancing and food (although, oh darling, it is pretty delicious!). Sometimes I take a break from all the whirl of it and find solace exploring its green spaces. This trip I went for a little walk around Central Park. I found a lovely little bench and just sat watching the city around me, taking in all the different sights and sounds. The squirrels scampering, the laughing children, the pigeons strutting.

The beauty of New York is its stark contrasts. The gritty and the glamour. It's a constant tug-of-war that's undeniably fascinating.

But let’s be honest, sometimes even the most captivating cities can get a little overwhelming. So, I make sure to spend some time taking in the views.

This time, I climbed the Empire State Building. That iconic view of Manhattan - the Chrysler Building cutting a handsome silhouette against the horizon. The view of the city sprawled out below - the streets looking like a toy town, the bustling traffic flowing like ants. It’s an incredible feeling to stand up there and to remember just how grand and incredible this city really is.

You can't really understand the magic of New York until you've had a chance to stand on top of a towering skyscraper.

By the end of my stay, I felt utterly revitalized, my creative juices overflowing. A pink tutu girl can never have too much inspiration, you know! The incredible energy, the creative buzz, the sheer diversity of the city - I just feel utterly inspired by it all.

My final adventure, before returning to England was the legendary Broadway! You really can’t come to New York without experiencing Broadway at its finest, and, after seeing a slew of phenomenal performances, I know for certain it’s an experience that shouldn’t be missed. The sheer magnitude of talent, the incredible energy - and it's something that just needs to be experienced in person. After seeing this many shows I was actually getting a little starstruck. The performances themselves are stunning - from the incredible acting to the vibrant costumes. And when it comes to the magic of the stage, New York really has something truly special!

New York really did leave me absolutely breathless, with a touch of glittery sparkle and a pink tutu glow! I know the vibrant energy of this incredible city will stay with me for a very long time - after all, pink tutus are meant to be danced, and danced again!

It’s my mission to get you all twirling and dancing in a pink tutu. It’s really time to start spreading the love for the pink tutu. What could be better than a little magic, joy and sparkly fun in the form of a fabulous pink tutu?

Catch you all next week, with more fun, fabulous adventures from the world of ballet!

Lots of Love,
