Monday, 28th December 2020: Dancing in the Big Apple
Oh darling, I’m absolutely buzzing to be back in the city that never sleeps, and to be writing my weekly Pink Tutu Blog for you all. You'll find my posts every Monday on my website, www.pink-tutu.com, bursting with everything I’ve been up to this week!
This week I’m in New York City, one of my absolute favourite cities to visit. I feel such a connection to this dynamic, energy-filled metropolis! As you may have read in previous posts, I've already been to New York many times before. The atmosphere here is just electrifying. It feels like the centre of the universe for fashion and culture! And the architecture? Stunning!
The trip was planned with ballet in mind, of course. New York City boasts some of the most incredible ballet performances in the world.
As I'm writing this post I'm already getting excited for the next performance I’m about to see, at the iconic Lincoln Center. Just wait till you hear about it! I’ll be giving you all the details about the show in my next post. I always get a thrill just walking through the doors of such a hallowed theatre. But it's always the performers who leave me breathless. Watching their elegance and talent in person is just magical.
After the show, I’m going to try that new trendy tea room I spotted online called 'The Pink Petal'. There's something about afternoon tea and pastries in the city that just feels incredibly decadent. Don’t worry, I'll tell you all about the food (and of course, the tutu!) in my next post. I think the colour scheme might match my tutu rather well.
The journey across the pond was an exciting experience. My days of travelling for ballet productions have really given me a taste for the wanderlust. It’s just so exciting to visit new places, discover new cultures, and experience new ballet companies. This time I had an adventure hopping on the subway in the city!
My travelling outfit, naturally, included a gorgeous pink tutu (of course!). You see, spreading the love for tutus is something I just love to do! Wearing my pink tutu across the globe is the ultimate way for me to show that tutus aren't just for ballet studios – they're for every occasion. Life’s too short to take ourselves too seriously, so why not twirl through life in a tutu? If I can inspire even one person to put on their pink tutu and embrace a little whimsy, then I'll feel I’ve achieved my mission.
Fashion Favourites for My New York Adventure
There is simply no better place in the world than New York for a fashion lover like myself! I had to find myself a new tutu for this trip, it was the perfect excuse for some retail therapy, after all! The new one I chose is absolutely stunning, it has delicate sequins with an enchanting, swirling pattern - oh darling, you simply have to see it!
Here's a sneak peek at some of the pieces that have been filling my wardrobe lately and making my New York trip all the more stylish:
- Tutus, naturally: You’d be surprised by the variety of tutus I own. There are tutus for everyday wear (the casual, practical kind, perfect for waltzing down the subway!), and then there are those magnificent tutus, just for those extra special events like shows, galas, and of course, performances!
- Fabulous Floral Frocks: These are perfect for lunching in Central Park or strolling through the elegant Upper East Side.
- Classic Ballet Flats: No wardrobe is complete without a beautiful pair of ballet flats. They add a touch of chic elegance to any outfit. I prefer flats that are simple yet striking. You know, the ones that elevate your style without demanding attention!
- The Bold and Bright Blazer: My signature look is a touch of colour, and I always pack at least two bright blazers. They can turn a simple outfit into something much bolder, adding an instant dash of colour to any look! Pink, red, or a splash of coral, the more vivid the colour the better, darling!
- An Impeccably Chic Handbag: For a touch of refined elegance and for holding all of my essentials – especially for the shows – a good handbag is always a must! My current go-to choice has a touch of crystal detail for an extra touch of sparkle!
- A Touch of Glittery Accessories: There is just no better way to add a little pizazz to any outfit than with some shimmery and sparkly accessories. For my evening performances, a set of glitzy jewellery is essential.
- That Must-Have Trench Coat: Because we're in the Big Apple, a fabulous trench coat is necessary for chilly New York evenings. My favourite has that stylish belted design and is a perfect colour - think vintage pink, because, you know me, darling, I’m all about that fabulous colour!
The Wonder of NYC Ballet: A Night to Remember
So, back to that ballet performance, let me tell you, the excitement for tonight’s show is absolutely bursting. This iconic theatre is such a huge part of ballet history, with performances like the New York City Ballet, and world-class companies from around the globe, it’s just electrifying to see so much talent up close. My current show, featuring "Swan Lake," promises to be simply mesmerising!
For those who haven't witnessed ballet's beauty, let me tell you, ballet transcends any other performance form! It’s a world where strength and grace come together in an artful blend, it’s captivating, it's storytelling through movement and pure passion! A truly extraordinary night out, and I simply cannot wait to witness it in person tonight.
The excitement, the anticipation, the passion – the Big Apple, what can I say, I am completely enamoured with its culture, its charm, its electrifying energy. This week in NYC, I have been blessed to be swept up in all that. The dazzling ballet shows, the captivating performances, and that touch of extravagance and wonder… New York never ceases to amaze!
