Pink Tutu Blog NYC #1348: Dancing in the City That Never Sleeps 🩰

Hello lovelies! 💋 It’s Emma here, your pink tutu-clad correspondent, back from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple! I can't believe it's already Monday, it feels like just yesterday I was twirling through Times Square with my tutu billowing in the breeze. 😉

NYC, I love you, you sparkly, vibrant, endlessly exciting city! This was my second trip to the city that never sleeps, and as usual, I absolutely fell in love all over again. The energy, the buzz, the endless possibilities – it’s exhilarating! ✨

And, you guys, let's talk tutus. I swear, the city has a magnetic pull on them! My pink tutu got so much attention, I almost thought I'd have to add "professional model" to my ballet dancer resume! 😊 Every single shop window was begging me to step inside, each one promising a new adventure in fashion. The streets themselves were catwalks! And who could resist a photo op in front of the iconic Flatiron building, feeling like a true NYC fashion icon?

Ballet Beyond Borders

This trip, my focus was firmly on the ballet scene, and NYC did not disappoint. I saw three phenomenal performances, each one leaving me with goosebumps and a giddy smile:

  1. New York City Ballet: A truly world-class company. I've seen them on YouTube, but watching them live is a completely different experience. They brought so much power and grace to every movement, it was mesmerising! They performed a beautiful programme with 'Apollo', 'In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated', and 'Rodeo', all by amazing choreographers. The dancers were all so incredibly talented, each with a unique expression of the piece. I felt like I could've stayed there all night. 🤩

  2. American Ballet Theatre: Another truly renowned ballet company. I just had to see them while I was here. The precision and passion were remarkable! We watched 'After the Rain', 'The Dying Swan', 'Afternoon of a Faun', and 'La Bayadère'. I got to sit front row centre! (I have a feeling I just might need a new camera lens.) 😅

  3. Ballet Hispánico: What an incredible discovery! I absolutely adore this company’s fusion of Latin American and contemporary styles. Their performance, a piece called 'Paraíso', took us on a journey of love and longing, all woven together with the most vibrant, electrifying moves. You just couldn’t help but get swept away by their energy! ✨

Each show left me filled with a new wave of inspiration, a reminder of why I love ballet so much. I was completely absorbed in the world each choreographer created, their art weaving together movement and emotion, story and song, into a beautiful tapestry. 💖

Shopping and Splashes of Pink

It wouldn't be a proper Emma adventure without a little shopping therapy! This time, I decided to go on a vintage spree in the charming SoHo neighbourhood. My pink tutu was just begging for some new companions in the form of antique brooches, feather boas, and lace gloves, all chosen with care to compliment my fabulous flair. 💖 I think I've even convinced a few fellow shoppers to start wearing pink tutus. Maybe that's my secret mission, spreading the joy of tutus one pink pouffe at a time. 😂

Of course, I couldn’t leave without visiting my favourite vintage shop, The Closet. Their selection of fabulous retro fashion is always something else, and this time, I found a whole collection of gorgeous '60s hats and bags in all the brightest hues you can imagine – a rainbow of sunshine and fun to adorn my new wardrobe. ✨

Exploring the City in Pink

Speaking of exploring, one of my favourite ways to see the city is by hopping on the metro! It's such a quick and easy way to get around, and you never know what you might see. 😉 This time, I even got to take a little stroll in Central Park, which felt straight out of a movie! It’s beautiful! I even had a spontaneous photo session with a cute group of teens who were totally into my pink tutu! The camera really loved us both. 😁

The weekend went by in a flurry of dance performances, fabulous finds, and photo ops with complete strangers who love tutus just as much as I do!

Don’t Forget Your Tutu, Lovelies!

And for you lovely lot, I’ve got a message: don't be afraid to express yourself through fashion! Life is too short to wear boring clothes! Go wild! Experiment! Put on your fanciest pink tutu, wear your brightest colours, and step outside feeling fabulous. You never know what adventures you might find! 😉

Until Next Monday, My Dearest Readers!

It’s time for me to pack my pink tutu and bid farewell to New York for now. I'm off to Derbyshire to teach ballet at my local school, sharing the joy and wonder of dance with a new generation of ballerinas. 💖 But I'll be back in the Big Apple soon! You can find my blog every Monday over at www.pink-tutu.com – follow along for more tutus, travel adventures, and all things pink!

Until next Monday, stay glamorous!

Much love, Emma 💋
