It's Monday morning, the sun's shining (well, it is for now at least, New York weather's notoriously unpredictable!), and Emma's here, ready to take you on a whirlwind tour of my fabulous weekend in the city that never sleeps. Oh, and did I mention? I'm wearing my pinkest, fluffiest tutu! It's practically glowing under the bright lights of Times Square.
From Derbyshire to NYC: A Pink Tutu Odyssey
You might be thinking, "Emma, how on earth did you end up in New York City?" Well, it all started in a small village in Derbyshire, England. From a young age, I was captivated by the graceful swirls and delicate leaps of ballet. But it wasn't just about the art form – I was absolutely smitten with the costumes, especially the tutus! They were like magical little clouds that took me to another world, where anything was possible.
As I grew older, my passion for ballet blossomed into a lifelong obsession, or should I say, obsession with pink tutus, because let's be honest, pink and tutus are my absolute jam.
Dancing My Way Around the World: A Ballerina's Travel Journal
After years of training, I had the incredible opportunity to turn my love of ballet into a career. It wasn't always easy, but it was worth it. Now, I earn my living by performing and teaching, and even manage to sneak in some occasional guest appearances at fabulous theatres all over the world!

The Pink Tutu Diaries: New York, New York!
This past week, I arrived in the bustling metropolis of New York City, armed with my pinkest tutu (and of course, my trusty tote bag full of ballet shoes and sparkly accessories!). And let me tell you, there’s something about the energy of New York City that truly electrifies. It's a melting pot of cultures, creativity, and ambition, and I felt like I was being pulled in a million different directions!
But then I spotted it. A grand old theatre with a magnificent marquee glowing under the New York night sky. The Metropolitan Opera House!
And just like that, all my senses sharpened. My senses tingled. The adrenaline pumped. And there I was, all decked out in my pinkest tutu, ready to experience a ballet masterpiece like nothing I'd ever seen before.
A Night at the Opera
The stage was ablaze with colour, the orchestra played with heart and soul, and the dancers – oh, the dancers were simply breathtaking. They moved with such grace and fluidity, like birds in flight, their movements flowing effortlessly and beautifully. It was a truly magical experience.
There’s something utterly enchanting about a live performance. The feeling of anticipation as the lights dim, the thrill of hearing the first notes of the music, the shared experience of the audience - it's a feeling that transcends words. I couldn't help but be transported by the beauty of it all.
Fashion & The City: A Shopaholic’s Dream
After the performance, it was time for a bit of a girly splurge. New York City is, after all, a haven for shopaholics, with its endless stream of designer boutiques and vintage gems tucked away on every corner. I wandered around Soho and the Upper East Side, picking up some seriously fabulous finds for my wardrobe. Of course, pink and tulle were my main shopping focus! My closet is overflowing with pink!
One store I particularly enjoyed was “Pink Lady” It's this darling little shop crammed with pink frills and glitter, where I snagged the most exquisite pair of ballerina slippers with feathers – it’s like something straight out of a fairy tale!
You can’t resist a trip to Bloomingdale's and the flagship Macy's, where I found the perfect sparkly clutch for my upcoming events and even a few more pink accessories to complete my ensemble.
The New York Underground: A Subway Symphony
There's nothing quite like navigating the bustling, rhythmic underground system in New York. It's a vibrant ecosystem of its own. I mean, how often do you find people dressed in all sorts of fantastic attire on their way to work?
One thing that always brings a smile to my face when I'm travelling the city’s underground? It’s the diverse cast of characters and street performers! From musical duos crooning soulful tunes, to charismatic clowns conjuring laughter, and, you guessed it, ballet dancers weaving through the crowd, I’m always enthralled by their unique acts.
This particular week, I saw a group of tap dancers performing outside the Times Square Station. Their rhythmic beats resonated throughout the bustling platforms. And the smiles on their faces were truly contagious! It felt as though the subway itself was humming with a vibrant melody.
I can't say I'm entirely accustomed to the hustle and bustle, but the frenetic energy and dynamism of the New York subway somehow seem to suit me! It’s all so captivating! It’s not without its quirks - that pungent smell, the unpredictable delays, but it is what makes the city so vibrant and full of life. And, for a pink tutu-loving girl like myself, there’s never a dull moment.
Sharing the Pink Tutu Love
You know, I often think about how far my pink tutus have travelled! From the small village in Derbyshire where I started to the bustling streets of New York. They have helped me connect with so many people, and it fills me with such joy to think about how many people I've inspired to embrace their own inner sparkle!
My motto? We’re all princesses in our own right! There’s a little ballerina inside all of us! And if my pink tutus can inspire just one person to embrace their dreams, to dance, to be free, then I've done my job!
It’s funny, so many people see tutus and think it’s “too much.” But I beg to differ. To me, it’s all about being brave, being playful, being yourself. A tutu isn’t about age or style. It's a statement, a symbol of joy and freedom.
