Pink Tutu Blog NYC #1366: Twirling Through The Big Apple! 🩰🍎
Hello, my lovely pink tutu tribe! It’s Monday again, and you know what that means… It's time for another New York City adventure, straight from your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger!
I'm currently perched atop a charming little café in Greenwich Village, sipping on a strawberry and elderflower smoothie (naturally pink!), and watching the world go by. The sun is shining, the streets are buzzing with life, and there's a delicious energy in the air that I just can't get enough of. It’s simply magical!
Last week, I whisked myself away to Derbyshire to catch up with my family and friends, but I couldn't stay away from the bright lights of the Big Apple for too long. I'm back in my favourite city, ready to immerse myself in all that New York has to offer - from Broadway shows and ballet classes to discovering hidden gems in charming boutiques and enjoying the finest pastries the city has to offer!
Now, let's rewind to my last few days in Derbyshire. I feel so blessed to be from such a beautiful place, filled with rolling hills, charming villages, and the most delicious afternoon tea spots (complete with clotted cream, of course!). But, truth be told, the countryside doesn’t quite match the city vibe when it comes to tutu-wearing opportunities. Don’t worry, I wasn’t about to be caught dead in my favourite pink tutu at a family BBQ (although I did contemplate it, just for the sheer audacity!), but I made sure to pack my ballet shoes for some much-needed practice at my old ballet studio. The familiarity of the studio, the smell of wooden floors, and the joy of feeling the music move through my body – those are the things I truly miss when I’m on the road.
It was such a lovely trip, and I was so touched by all the warm hugs and genuine smiles from the lovely people back home. They seem to understand me and my love of pink tutus (they all know better than to try to change my style!), and they always send me off with encouragement and a little bit of Derbyshire magic.
A Weekend in New York City
Now, back to my New York escapade! The weekend began with a truly unforgettable performance of the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. Oh, my goodness! It was a veritable feast for the eyes, with stunning choreography, ethereal costumes, and the most captivating music. You can't imagine the sheer delight that pulsed through my body as I watched the dancers soar across the stage – I was completely captivated, lost in the world of ballet, and brimming with inspiration.
And wouldn't you know it, my evening didn’t end there! I followed the show with a delicious dinner at a cute little French bistro called “La Parisienne,” which had a romantic Parisian ambiance (but of course, with my own personal pink twist). And what did I do while enjoying my delectable French onion soup and a glass of bubbly? I found myself sketching the ballerinas, capturing the essence of their graceful movements in my sketchbook. You know me, always the budding artist!
Saturday was filled with sunshine and even more inspiration. I spent the morning at a hidden gem of a vintage clothing shop on Bleecker Street, “Love Shack Vintage,” a veritable paradise for fashion-conscious adventurers. I found the most delightful pair of oversized sunshades – they perfectly complement my pink tutu, don’t you think? Of course, I also couldn’t resist a vintage silk scarf (in a fabulous shade of pale pink, naturally!). I can already picture them looking splendid paired with my tutu in a future New York City photoshoot!
As the day progressed, the music pulled me in again, beckoning me to my favourite ballet studio in the city. “Ballet Bohemia” is nestled in the heart of Chelsea, a little slice of elegance amidst the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. I love their commitment to classical training, combined with a relaxed and encouraging environment. It was a joy to feel my body stretching, my muscles responding to the music, and the pure delight of feeling connected to my art. I truly believe there’s something special about feeling the rhythm of a city while you move gracefully, with every step, and it’s exactly what my body and soul need to thrive.
Pink Tutu Perfection
In the afternoon, the magic continued, but this time with a very different flavour. I ventured to the heart of Brooklyn to witness the wonders of "Dance Underground,” an incredibly creative collective of street performers, dancers, and artists. It was so captivating to watch their expressive movements, their passion for dance pouring from every step and gesture. The fusion of styles – from hip-hop to contemporary ballet, with a hint of circus acrobatics – made for a truly electric and vibrant experience. I was entranced by their raw energy and the raw talent that oozed from every dancer. And I, of course, did not let this moment pass without making a new connection to the pink tutu world. They might not have known the magic of a full-on pink tutu, but as I sat there, taking in the experience, I felt a strange, warm feeling bloom within me. Maybe, just maybe, with enough pink tutus in the world, there might be a future for this art form with a little more magic woven into the mix!
Of course, a weekend in New York City isn’t complete without a little indulging. After all, a little treat is always essential, wouldn’t you agree? So, for Sunday's indulgence, I opted for an afternoon of high tea at a fabulous place called “The Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel." This stunningly beautiful setting, complete with grand chandeliers, floral decorations, and delicate china teacups, made me feel like a princess. And it wasn't just the setting – the pastries, oh my goodness, they were divine! A symphony of flavours, textures, and beautiful decorations, perfect for my discerning palate and the epitome of luxurious delight. It was the perfect ending to a magical weekend!
And then there was the dress. It's not just about my favourite colour – pink, and not just about my favourite style – tutus. Sometimes, you get that feeling when you just know something's meant to be yours. A magical blend of style, fit, and colour that transcends description. This dress, a vibrant, coral pink satin concoction with delicate floral lace, caught my eye at the vintage clothing store. A feeling, deep inside, said this was the perfect piece, ready to take me through the streets of New York. And what better way to do it than in the spirit of the legendary New York designer, Bill Blass. It was the perfect final touch for my weekend wardrobe – and what's more, I managed to snag it for a bargain. What a triumph!
I can’t tell you how many compliments I received for this perfect outfit throughout the weekend! So many lovely strangers (who were, of course, intrigued by the beautiful pink tutu!), commented on the vibrant colour and the beautiful detail of the dress. They even mentioned they could feel the unique, playful style – my own personal pink tutu flair! I know my love for tutus may be unconventional for many people, but in a city like New York, where style and self-expression are embraced at every turn, I truly felt free to shine.
Fashion Inspiration in NYC
Now, you all know my motto – spreading the pink tutu gospel far and wide. It’s an act of spreading kindness and beauty throughout the world, a little bit of light wherever I go. But beyond my tutu mission, I've also noticed something intriguing about New Yorkers' relationship with fashion: it's about making a statement, about expressing themselves unapologetically. I’ve even started noticing an increase in playful colours and eclectic fashion choices – just the type of free-spirited energy I love to bring into the world! Perhaps, just maybe, a pink tutu has rubbed off on some of the more daring city fashionistas, eh? I like to think so!
However, New York City is also about practicality – being able to navigate the busy streets with style and ease. Which brings me to the subject of a city-dweller's greatest companion – the New York subway! Oh, how I adore the symphony of sounds, the whirring trains, and the vibrant graffiti art that adorns its walls. I've always admired how the subway system connects all corners of this city. There's always something new to discover just a short ride away, a hidden café or a forgotten vintage store that seems to be calling my name! And as I mentioned before, I always have my trusty pink tutu with me. You never know where the perfect photo op or the next tutu inspiration may come from. Just think: one day I'm gracefully navigating through Times Square in my pink tutu, the next, I’m caught in a spontaneous ballet routine on the subway platform – this city never fails to surprise!
So, my dear pink tutu fans, stay tuned. You never know what adventures lie ahead for this tutu-loving girl! There's a world of exciting things waiting for us here in New York City, from Broadway to Ballet Bohemia, from vintage stores to the vibrant heart of Brooklyn, and of course, in every charming little corner of the city. And you know me, I wouldn't dream of navigating this whirlwind without my trusted pink tutu by my side!
Until next week, keep shining and never stop twirling!
