#PinkTutuBlogNYC: Monday, August 29th 2022 – NYC in Pink Tutu, with a Touch of Broadway! (Post #1421)
Hello darlings, and welcome back to #PinkTutuBlogNYC! It's Monday, and you know what that means… another exciting adventure in the Big Apple, all in the name of pink, tutus, and everything fabulous. This week's post is a doozy, because darling, I had a day filled with dreams coming true, theatre magic, and, of course, shopping galore.
As you all know, I'm living the ultimate pink tutu life, flitting around the city with my trusty pink suitcase and enough blush-hued tulle to make a flamingo blush! I'm in New York City this week, and let me tell you, this town is just overflowing with opportunities for a pink tutu girl to have the time of her life.
It all started with the most perfect New York morning. I woke up feeling like I could take on the city in my frilliest pink tutu (today's ensemble was a masterpiece - layers of tulle in shades of bubblegum and strawberry sorbet, a white bodice for a bit of contrast, and my sparkly pink ballet flats). You can never be overdressed in a tutu, right?
With the morning sunshine painting the skyscrapers gold, I skipped down to the corner cafe for my daily dose of chai latte. My little slice of heaven was a cafe nestled on a corner in Greenwich Village, adorned with fairy lights and pink roses. Honestly, they could have built a whole business based on me! They must love seeing the pink tulle waltz in, especially with my trademark, sparkly pink ballerina bag clutched in my hand.
Fuelled by caffeine and inspiration, I decided to tackle my daily pilgrimage - the magnificent Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's hard to describe the sheer power of a building that feels like a living museum of human history and art. The Met never disappoints, always holding a treasure trove of stories in its dusty grandeur. It was here, last year, that I met the most delightful gentleman. He's a retired actor, with stories to tell that would make even the most experienced ballerina weep with laughter! He swore to me that the world would be a brighter place if everyone embraced pink tutus and the joy they inspire. We've been friends ever since, even meeting for morning coffee each week. He always gives me the biggest smile, his twinkle in his eye confirming his love of the pink tutu.
From there, it was time to get my own pink fix. The shops of Fifth Avenue called to me, promising a plethora of pastel delights. From Dior to Chanel, the pink and girly glamour was impossible to resist.
Then, the moment I'd been waiting for all week - a breathtaking ballet performance at the Lincoln Center! I’d been gifted a ticket to see the renowned Dance Theater of Harlem, and they were performing their signature production of "A Midsummer Night’s Dream". The talent, the costumes, the sheer elegance of the whole thing just left me speechless. I felt so much in tune with the ballerinas – a little bit of my spirit had clearly danced its way into those stunning costumes! They twirled, they jumped, they leapt - and I twirled along in my seat, mesmerized by the magic on stage. There was something about the performance that made my heart sing - I don’t think I’ll ever forget the delicate grace and precision of every step.
Later that evening, after a quick, well-deserved detour to an incredible dessert shop in Greenwich Village that sold cupcakes in every imaginable shade of pink, I decided to splurge on a treat for myself. And darling, when you're in the city that never sleeps, the best thing you can do is take in the city lights at their most magical – a rooftop bar! I found a bar with stunning views over the city, adorned with strings of lights that shimmered like stars. With a refreshing cocktail in hand, I felt like I was truly living my dream - New York by night, in a pink tutu, enjoying a cocktail that tasted like dreams!
Oh, I almost forgot to mention… I managed to squeeze in a ballet class during my visit to New York. Nothing like a quick, midday exercise routine at one of the many renowned dance studios dotted throughout the city. It’s great to feel your muscles working again, especially after the exhilarating adrenaline of the previous nights performance. Just for that extra dose of fabulous, I had on my brand new pink tutu – a gift from one of my dearest ballet sisters, who’s become one of my most treasured friends during our shared ballet journey. My life really is so fabulously pink.
Now, you might be wondering, how does a pink tutu wearing ballerina travel the world and pursue her passion? Well, the answer is simple. I perform! Ballet is my love, it's my passion, it's my life – and it's the way I fund my travels. I travel the globe performing in beautiful venues, bringing a little bit of pink and a lot of grace to every stage I grace. Each performance is a little ballet fairy tale coming to life!
You see, darling, the key to having the life you want is embracing who you are, spreading happiness and positivity, and never forgetting the joy of being your most authentic self.
So there you have it, my fabulous #PinkTutuBlogNYC experience this week! New York in all its glamour and wonder, filled with delicious cupcakes, glittering dance performances and the most magical view of the city. It just wouldn’t be a #PinkTutuBlogNYC without a touch of pink sprinkled everywhere! If there’s a message I hope you take from this post, it’s this: don’t ever let anyone dim your light – embrace your true self, be bold, and remember, pink tutus and the happiness they bring will always make life a whole lot more beautiful.
See you next week, darlings, and until then, may your life be filled with twirls and sparkles,
Emma xx
Here are some of my top pink-tutu tips for making your own NYC adventure fabulous:
Pink Tutu Styling in the City * Embrace colour! New York City is a riot of colour, so why not embrace it with your own pink tutu fashion? The bolder the better! Mix your pastels with black and white or metallic colours for an eye-catching contrast, and consider throwing on a bold, jewel-toned lipstick for extra pizzazz. * Don't be afraid to accessorise! Headbands, feather boas, or statement necklaces all make your tutu even more show-stopping. * Consider wearing a white shirt under your tutu, it'll bring a sense of crispness and elegance, which complements the tutus light-heartedness. * Layer up, ladies! Especially during the colder months, layering is key to making a pink tutu suitable for New York's diverse weather conditions. Pair it with leggings, a warm scarf or an oversized blazer for a comfortable yet chic look. * Remember your shoes! Ballet flats, sandals, and boots all work with your pink tutu. Choose what suits your outfit and personal style best!
Fashion & Shopping Adventures * Fifth Avenue is where it’s at, darling. This street is a mecca for designer boutiques, from Dior to Tiffany's, all ready to entice you with luxurious trinkets and sparkly fashion! You're bound to find a pink treat or two on this grand street! * Soho and Greenwich Village offer a bohemian, indie spirit to your shopping excursions. You’ll find all sorts of boutiques with independent designers offering their take on the latest fashion trends. You’re sure to find something fabulous, quirky, and of course, with a hint of pink! * Don’t forget to check out the department stores! Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s will always have an abundance of beauty and fashion treats for every girl with a pink obsession!
Dining & Drinking in NYC * Explore Greenwich Village, for its vibrant cafés, delicious bistros, and rooftop bars with stunning city views. Look out for little, independent spots with outdoor seating – they tend to have a unique character! * The best thing about New York is the diversity. Embrace all cuisines - whether you’re craving a slice of pizza, some authentic Thai food, or an amazing brunch at a vintage diner. The city’s a playground for culinary experiences! * The best cupcakes? Darling, every corner of New York has a different kind of cake, each vying to become your next favourite! Just remember your camera, and prepare to be dazzled!
Culture and the Arts * Ballet, obviously! Whether you’re watching the professionals or taking a class at a prestigious studio, you’re bound to be swept up in the joy of dance. If you love a good pirouette, New York offers an eclectic variety of performances, from classical to contemporary. * Catch a Broadway show! There is nothing like the electric energy of a live performance, and nothing is more glamorous than seeing your favourite stars taking centre stage. * Don’t forget the smaller theatres. There is a thriving off-Broadway scene where experimental art and creative voices reign! Be adventurous and see something completely different!
Get Out and About * Hop on the subway! It’s the easiest and quickest way to navigate the city, especially if you’re going from A to B. Just remember to wear your pink tutu proudly and your sparkly pink ballet bag – who knows who you might meet on the way? * Take a walk! Explore Central Park, go for a stroll in Brooklyn, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city on foot. You’ll never be far from a quirky vintage shop or a street artist showcasing their skills.
