Hello, darling readers! It's your favourite tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple! As always, I was lucky enough to fund my trip by performing in a lovely ballet production, "Swan Lake" – a truly magical experience. I always love being on stage, the lights, the costumes, the energy of the audience. A truly wonderful way to experience New York. The production was fantastic, and of course, my costume was an absolute dream! 🦢 ✨
I landed at JFK feeling the usual mixture of excitement and exhaustion, but my New York adventures began as soon as I stepped off the plane. I love the energy of New York!
The metro, always my go-to mode of transport, is a symphony of colourful characters, and let me tell you, my pink tutu stood out like a beacon in a sea of black! I love seeing how many people stare, and it makes me so happy that it brightens up their day! You know me, always on a mission to spread some pink tutu love. You might even spot a little twinkle in my eyes! 🤩
A Shopping Spree and Broadway Glamour
Once I was settled in my gorgeous hotel (I must write a blog post about that!), I immediately made a beeline for a shopping spree at Bergdorf Goodman – such a haven for any fashionista. I could spend hours just browsing through their dazzling displays, but with my ballet rehearsal schedule, I had to be sensible! (Well, somewhat sensible! 😊). I snagged the most exquisite pink feathered scarf and a fabulous sequined clutch, both perfectly complementing my ballet attire. New York is the ultimate playground for a tutu enthusiast! 🛍️
My second night in the city was dedicated to Broadway! The show I saw was a modern take on "West Side Story," and it blew my mind! The dancing was sensational, the music so vibrant, and the whole experience transported me to another world. If you haven’t been, I implore you – grab tickets! I can't imagine being more captivated by the performance. 🤩 I've added "Singin' in the Rain" to my list!
Ballet and Brunch, a Perfect Pair
Saturday was a full day of dancing, with a masterclass at the School of American Ballet. The studio was buzzing with talent and energy. My feet might have been sore, but the pure joy of dancing with fellow ballerinas was unforgettable. And you know what? Every other ballerina was looking at my pink tutu – I can tell, because my eyes were looking too! 😉 It made the hard work so worthwhile!
Then came the best part: brunch at a chic little cafe with stunning views of Central Park. I opted for a healthy, light, gluten-free avocado toast (pink, of course!) - but secretly I was fantasizing about a delicious slice of pink frosted cupcake! 🤫 You wouldn't believe the number of fellow ballet dancers I saw - there is definitely a tutu-loving contingent in New York! 🍰
Museum Magic and Pink Pretzels
Sunday saw us visiting the Met Museum. I was in awe of the collection - art history brought to life. We strolled through grand galleries, marvelling at masterpieces from centuries past. They were breathtaking, just like my pink tutu in a gallery of historical masterpieces! I must say, they made for quite the spectacle! 😉
As evening approached, I craved some traditional New York snacks. The smell of hot pretzels led me to a bustling street cart - the ultimate New York experience! And to make it truly special, I couldn't resist asking the vendor to dip it in pink icing! 🥨 You'd think he’d have heard it all, but he didn’t miss a beat! He just smiled, and told me to “Have a great evening.” It seems you never get tired of looking your best in New York!
Homeward Bound with Memories to Last a Lifetime
With my tutu-clad heart overflowing with love for this city, it was time to head back home to Derbyshire. The flight home gave me a moment to reflect on the incredible experiences I'd had, from ballet classes to shopping sprees to museum walks, all topped off with a pinch of New York flair and, of course, a dash of pink tutu magic!
