Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #1472 - Monday 2023-08-21: She Danced in New York City!
Hello darlings! It's Monday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog post from the dazzling city of New York! Iâm back from my weekend adventure, my heart overflowing with memories of a whirlwind of twirls, sparkles, and pure joy.
Now, before I launch into all the amazing things I experienced, I have to confess: this whole trip felt like something straight out of a fairy tale. It's almost hard to believe I was even there. From the moment I arrived at Grand Central Station, all decked out in my most magnificent pink tutu, to my final graceful pirouette before leaving, it was a magical adventure. Letâs just say that my âtravel diaryâ (that's what I call my little notebook I scribble my thoughts in - doesnât everyone have one?) is absolutely bursting at the seams with pink-tinted anecdotes.
As you know, my aim in life is to get the whole world wearing pink tutus! But how do you do that in a city as glamorous and busy as New York? I knew just what to do! I planned my trip around a special event that I thought would perfectly capture the essence of the pink tutu spirit: a captivating dance showcase at the Lincoln Center!
From Derbyshire to the Big Apple! But first, a bit about how I got here! Remember my darling friends, Iâm Emma, your favourite tutu-wearing ballerina blogger! You'll find me every week on www.pink-tutu.com, and I post on Mondays about my adventures in fashion, ballet, and travel. I live in Derbyshire, England (the most beautiful county!), and my biggest dream is to spread the joy of ballet and pink tutus everywhere I go. To fund my adventures, I'm fortunate enough to earn a living dancing, both on the stage and in street performances. My trusty tutu travels with me everywhere!
This week, I jetted across the Atlantic to the big city: the vibrant heart of New York City. Let me tell you, stepping out of JFK airport was exhilarating. The air buzzed with energy and possibilities, and you canât help but feel a tiny flutter in your heart knowing that every corner is ripe with adventure.
After settling into my perfectly pink hotel room (complete with a fluffy pink bathrobe - you can't live without one in New York!) I donned my finest tutu, grabbed my trusty notebook and set off to explore the city that never sleeps. What else was there to do but explore the vibrant and buzzing energy that is NYC? My journey, of course, involved hopping onto the iconic yellow taxis and experiencing the rush and roar of the metro. I even spotted a few fellow tutu enthusiasts! A group of school children were doing a photo shoot for a play they were performing!
An Evening of Elegance: The Lincoln Center Dance ShowcaseAfter an exciting afternoon exploring New York, I felt that extra something I need to make sure my dancing legs were at the ready for my evening performance. I treated myself to a much needed manicure and pedicure, naturally, a shade of delicate, baby pink. You see, darling, every ballet dancer knows a perfect manicure can be a game-changer. My hands are always smooth, hydrated and pampered - ready to paint the air with my artistry!
My main reason for being in New York was, of course, to attend a truly spectacular dance event - the Lincoln Center Dance Showcase. The lights of the city are enchanting enough as it is, but there's something utterly magical about a performance under the golden glow of a New York night. It felt like a scene out of a film! And, the ballet performance itself was captivating: elegant, powerful, and utterly awe-inspiring.
This particular event brought together dancers from different genres and styles: From classic ballets with delicate tutus and flowing movements to contemporary pieces full of energy and bold expressions. There were even some talented hip-hop dancers that showed us just how much energy there can be in dance. I found myself absolutely entranced by the pure artistry of it all, lost in a world where movement spoke louder than words. I couldnât help but feel that special connection with the dancers on the stage. After all, they say a dancerâs soul shines through every movement!
You might think it strange to see a little ballerina like me amidst all these fantastic dancers, but thatâs why I love NYC! This amazing city celebrates people who have the courage to pursue their dreams and express themselves. I felt right at home with everyone there.
Shopping Adventures: Pink Power in Manhattan! No trip to New York is complete without some serious shopping, wouldnât you agree? And Iâm so excited to share a little bit about my most exciting discoveries:
A Peek at the Haute Couture: Of course, I had to take a trip to the legendary Fifth Avenue, right? Itâs almost a rite of passage for a girl who loves fashion, just like me! This street truly is a fashion haven - every storefront oozes chic style and elegant luxury, even the coffee shops! And while my purse might not always be full enough to pick up a diamond-encrusted Chanel jacket, it was wonderful just to feel the pulse of fashion from the centre of the world. It inspires me to be more creative with my wardrobe.
The Thrill of Vintage: I found an amazing vintage boutique nestled amongst the hustle and bustle of a side street. I was drawn in by the sight of vibrant, swirling patterns on the clothes in the window, the colours bursting forth and dancing on the glass! This is what my heart yearns for! And inside, I found myself surrounded by so many beautiful garments, full of character, and oh so stylish! My handbag is quite possibly the lightest itâs been for months. (Maybe you know the struggle of too many dresses? You can only wear so many, no matter how amazing your style! ) But of course, I did pick up a vintage ballerina-inspired dress. Its silky fabric is perfect for a graceful waltz, and itâs adorned with a subtle pink floral pattern that just calls to me! And letâs be honest, if we're talking vintage in the heart of New York City, a tiny bit of pink just had to find its way into my shopping bag!
Ballet Shops & Bargains: A fashion hunt is never complete without a visit to a ballet supply shop, darling! That's right, my dear, there are these wondrous havens dedicated to ballerinas and the ballet world. I discovered one shop on Bleecker Street that absolutely charmed me! It was like walking into a whimsical ballet dream. Not only did they have the most gorgeous selection of ballet shoes in every imaginable shade (including of course, a multitude of pinks!), but I even managed to snag a beautiful new leotard that would make any ballerina envious.
Don't Forget Broadway! I've been to the New York stage before, but this time, I just couldnât resist seeing the magnificent âMoulin Rouge!â The music, the dazzling costumes, the energetic choreography - everything was so flamboyant and magical. As a ballerina, it was so inspiring! The way they incorporated dance into the narrative, and made it an integral part of the story, it was truly impressive. And did I mention the spectacular pink feather costumes? The sheer beauty and movement of the whole performance were breath-taking. It reminded me once again of the incredible power of the stage!
And, yes, darling! I know what you are thinking! The bright pink tutus they wore during the "Moulin Rouge" show? I may just be dreaming of a new pink tutu for the upcoming season - perhaps, a custom piece for myself!
Back in the Real World⌠(For NowâŚ)But alas, like all fairytales, my New York adventure had to come to an end. It was hard saying goodbye to this captivating city, but as I packed my bags (including my trusty pink tutu!), I couldnât help but feel a little sense of bittersweet nostalgia. I can't wait to share my memories with you in more blog posts.
Here are a few more of my favourite snippets:
- The warm and inviting aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls coming from the little coffee shops on every street. The smell itself could be an adventure.
- The joyful clatter of tap dancing, coming from a bustling street corner. Even New Yorkers canât resist an impromptu ballet class!
- The stunning views from the Empire State Building. Did I mention that you could just about spot me in my tutu? Maybe, darling, one day you will be able to join me on that observation deck? We will watch the cityscape together!
My adventure in New York City reminded me just how powerful, vibrant, and awe-inspiring the ballet world is. Itâs more than just dancing â itâs an art form that embodies passion, grace, and pure joy. I hope this little glimpse into my travels has inspired you to dance a little more freely. Whether youâre a seasoned dancer, a budding ballerina, or someone who just loves the magic of a beautiful pirouette, remember this: There's a bit of magic inside us all, waiting to be discovered and unleashed.
As I say, every week, my blog will bring you some new fashion and dance news and my weekly adventures! And I hope you have enjoyed my time here!
Next week, I am planning on dancing through some lovely ballet workshops and finding some new ways to integrate the tutus into my performances, perhaps something involving glitter, sparkle and neon. And, who knows, maybe a little pink?
And of course, remember - every ballerina is unique, so find the style and the outfit that makes you feel confident and strong!
Donât forget to subscribe to the Pink Tutu blog and visit me again on Mondays. Until then, keep on twirling, darling! And remember, we are all pink tutu princesses waiting to be discovered!
And as I always like to sign off⌠Live life with a smile, twirl your way through life and remember to always wear a tutu!

Emma
