Hello my lovely Tutu-istas! This is Emma, writing to you live from the heart of New York City! It's Monday, 4th January 2027 and, as always, I'm kicking off the week in style – and I'm doing it in a very pink tutu! ?
This week's post is all about my latest New York City adventures. I've been flitting around the city like a pink-clad butterfly, embracing all the glitz, glamour, and the sheer magical energy of the place. And, as usual, I'm sharing all the details with you, because spreading the joy of tutus, dancing, and fashion is what makes me tick. So grab a cuppa, put on your comfiest pair of slippers (maybe with some fluffy pink pom-poms!), and join me on a whirl through the city that never sleeps! ? ?️
Back in the City That Never Sleeps ?My trip back to NYC is part of my "Every City, Every Tutu" mission! Yes, my darlings, it's a very important goal - to share the love of the tutu and spread the magic of dance around the globe. Every tutu-tastic adventure fuels my mission and inspires me to get even more creative with my outfits and my blog posts. ???
Landing back in New York was like coming home - the rush, the bustle, the familiar scents and sights. The streets of New York are buzzing, the taxis honking, the shops all bright and shining... and it’s utterly wonderful. This trip is extra special, as I’ve managed to secure some fabulous gigs at a local dance school and the legendary Broadway Ballet Theatre. Speaking of Broadway... Have you ever heard of La Danse des Fées?! It’s the new show that’s everyone's talking about! So dreamy...so beautiful... ??
Tutu-ing around the CityThe best thing about New York City, is the freedom to be yourself. Whether you're a tutu-loving ballerina or an aspiring fashionista, the city embraces all sorts of people with a kaleidoscope of passions.
And of course, you can't be in NYC without indulging in some fabulous shopping! I hit Fifth Avenue on Saturday and managed to get some gorgeous outfits and a new, fluffy, hot-pink tutu with shimmering sequins. (A girl's gotta keep up her New York City glam, darling!) ?️?
Did you know that Fifth Avenue in New York is considered one of the most luxurious and prestigious shopping destinations in the world? It boasts some of the biggest names in fashion, from international high-end designers to independent boutiques selling bespoke and unique creations.
I love to go exploring off the beaten track too - delving into quaint side streets with artisan boutiques, vintage clothing shops, and local designers - each one bursting with creativity. I found a truly amazing, vintage tutu store! Let's just say, it's a bit of a tutu paradise - rows and rows of vintage tulle goodness. I had to pick up a beautiful pale blue, vintage tulle tutu for my collection! ?
Broadway Lights and Ballet DreamsSpeaking of creative dreams, the theatre is really my happy place. This city has more theatre productions than you can shake a tutu at! The sheer energy and artistic spirit buzzing around Times Square is electric! It's a beautiful blend of classic, timeless Broadway shows and edgy, contemporary off-Broadway productions.
I managed to snag tickets to a Broadway ballet show and I am just beaming. You can tell that New York has been the home of some iconic productions and this show definitely gave me a serious case of tutu envy! (And also, a newfound appreciation for the beauty of classic dance and the breathtaking choreography of some incredible ballet artists!)
You guys know I'm obsessed with seeing every performance possible when I'm in New York, so naturally I snagged tickets to La Danse des Fées. It was absolutely exquisite and I am already looking forward to revisiting some of my favorite NYC shows later in the trip. There's just something so thrilling about seeing live performance... that electricity in the air when the lights go down... It's truly magical. ?✨
Tutus & Subway AdventuresLet's talk about New York City's iconic subway system. It's such a character! And, in true Emma fashion, I, of course, decided to wear my new pink tutu during a trip through the city's subterranean network. I got some serious double takes and smiles, even from the notoriously reserved New Yorkers. I’m hoping I spread a little bit of Tutu Magic!
Now, I know some of you might be thinking... A tutu on the subway? It must have been crowded... and you’re right. It definitely can be busy but if you can take on a Tube commute in London, you can take on the New York City Metro! (Just don’t be the one to block the doors. No one likes a door-blocker... ?)
Anyway, the whole experience made me laugh, because, let's face it, when was the last time you saw a pink tutu floating through a subway? It's all about a bit of fun and adding a splash of personality into everyday life. It really does make the journey more exciting than just simply getting from A to B. And anyway, a bit of tulle is perfect for swishing about in! ??
My Love for the Little Things ✨Being back in New York has reignited my love for the city’s magic. I adore wandering around the little local markets, getting my hands on locally-made snacks and finding unique treasures - you can truly feel the pulse of the city in these vibrant spots.
You see, New York isn’t just about dazzling shows and famous shopping streets - there’s also an undeniable charm in finding quiet little nooks filled with local stories and treasures waiting to be discovered. You just need to open your eyes and look around, and you’ll see the beauty in everyday life.
Speaking of everyday magic... it was such a lovely day in Central Park today! A clear sky, crisp air, and that classic New York sun. I had a really sweet little encounter, I was sketching in my notebook (Yes, sometimes I even take a little break from the tutu-ing... or, at least try to!) and an elderly gentleman who looked to be in his 80s asked me about what I was drawing.
I was drawing a very intricate and rather complex ballet pose, as it was something that I wanted to try with my dancers and maybe, with enough practice, even try it myself... When I showed him the pose he simply exclaimed: "It's magnificent, dear! Such energy and grace! Like a bird in flight!".
I'm not sure what I enjoyed more, the heartfelt compliment or his comparison to a majestic bird, but it truly made my day. It made me realise that finding little pockets of kindness, sharing passions with strangers, and appreciating the small things can make a real difference - it just proves that every moment in New York has the potential to be magical.
Sharing The Pink Tutu Love ?Now, I'm back at my favourite Parisian-style coffee shop. They're famous for their pain au chocolat - I just have to try them whenever I'm in the city! I'm sipping a delicious chai latte (don’t worry, it’s got a splash of almond milk!) and, of course, a big plate of croissants to accompany my pink-tutu inspired latte art (because you can never go wrong with pink!), while planning this week's schedule and dreaming up future Tutu adventures. ?☕?
