As you know, my life is a whirlwind of ballet, glitter, and, of course, pink tutus! And this week, I’ve been completely immersed in the magical energy of this extraordinary city.
So, where did my adventures take me this week? Well, grab your favourite pink outfit (or, let's face it, any outfit, because everything looks amazing in New York!), pour yourself a cuppa, and let’s dive into my latest escapades.
The Subway Adventures of a Pink Tutu Princess
It wouldn’t be a true NYC experience without a journey on the legendary subway! And, let me tell you, navigating those subterranean tunnels in a pink tutu is an experience! The stares, the smiles, the general good-natured awe…it's simply glorious! The city just seems to embrace a bit of pink tutu magic.
I made sure to snag a seat right by the window so I could admire the incredible sights of Manhattan zipping by. I mean, honestly, the subway lines themselves are practically art installations. Graffiti-covered carriages, the rhythmic rumble, the sound of music spilling out from headphones, and the ever-present murmur of conversations…all so full of life and energy.
The Allure of Broadway: Stepping Into the World of Theatre
No trip to New York is complete without a visit to Broadway, so I managed to squeeze in a show on Wednesday evening. I decided to treat myself to the highly anticipated "Moulin Rouge: The Musical". The costumes were spectacular, the dancing incredible, and I just can't recommend it enough. I spent most of the show smiling, my feet tapping, and wishing I was back in my dancing shoes myself.
Of course, before the show, I had to take full advantage of the theatre district’s dazzling array of shops and cafes. You know, to make sure I didn't have a single piece of lint on my tutu before stepping foot into the grandeur of the theatre, obviously! My personal favourite discovery this time was a cute little vintage boutique on 46th Street, where I found the perfect pink feather boa to add some extra flair to my evening ensemble. Just saying, a Broadway performance never goes amiss when a fabulous boa is involved, am I right? ?
The Art of Ballet: A Soul-Stirring Evening at the New York City Ballet
As a true ballerina at heart, I simply cannot resist a chance to watch professional dancers work their magic on stage. On Friday, I took myself to see the legendary New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. They performed "The Four Seasons," a modern masterpiece of choreography and storytelling, the costumes and stage sets truly took my breath away! The sheer talent and grace of these incredible artists is an absolute inspiration. It’s one of the reasons I absolutely adore ballet - the power of communication, emotion, and storytelling through the language of dance is just so utterly moving.
And just as the performers gracefully take a final bow, I know I’ll be inspired for the rest of the week!
Discovering My Inner Fashionista on Fifth Avenue
You all know how much I adore fashion, and exploring New York’s endless fashion offerings was definitely a highlight this week. My favourite? Well, of course, it had to be the iconic Fifth Avenue. From flagship department stores with mind-blowing window displays, to quirky independent boutiques overflowing with unique finds, this is definitely a haven for any shopaholic with an ounce of fashion sense.
And while I’m tempted to buy EVERYTHING, this time I went for a gorgeous pair of ballet pumps that perfectly complimented my wardrobe – pink, naturally! And I couldn’t resist picking up a gorgeous pink sequined head-band - because a girl’s gotta sparkle, right?! I even picked up some inspiration for a new pink tutu design… shhhh! It's a secret! But I promise, it's going to be divine! ?
A Delicious Bite of New York: Coffee & Pastries at The Empire State Building
You simply can’t experience New York without enjoying a quintessential breakfast bagel. And I’ve fallen in love with a particularly delicious bakery near Central Park - it has the BEST coffee and croissants ever! ☕️? The little bakery is housed in the most charming old building, it's the kind of place that's buzzing with the neighbourhood's energy and that makes you feel like you've found a hidden gem. The pastry selection was just glorious. I chose the almond croissant, which I happily devoured as I people-watched, listening to the sound of birds chirping in the trees.
And, oh, I can't leave without mentioning the view! You guys already know how much I adore pink, right? So you can just imagine how giddy I was when I realised that, at certain times of day, the Empire State Building is bathed in shades of glorious pink. This makes the Empire State building a must-visit! Not only do you get the best views of the city, you're rewarded with a touch of pink majesty. And for a pink tutu princess like myself, there’s nothing more magical than that!
A Final Thought…Or Rather, A Tutu-Inspired One!
One of the best things about exploring a new city, for me, is that feeling of excitement and energy you get from discovering new perspectives.
It reminds me of the joy of stepping onto a ballet stage and feeling those first few notes of the orchestra play! That feeling of “I can do anything!”, the rush of anticipation, and the awareness that anything is possible. That's the power of ballet!
The energy of New York is very similar! So why not wear your pink tutu to your next performance or take it to the theatre with you?! I promise, you won't regret it! It’s all about embracing those moments, celebrating those passions, and dancing through life with a smile!
