Pink Tutu Blog: Paris - Post #115 - 9th March 2002
Bonjour mes chéries!
It's Saturday again, which means it's time for another post on the Pink Tutu Blog! This week, I'm writing from the most magical city in the world - Paris! And no, I'm not wearing my pink tutu right this very second. (Don't worry, it'll make an appearance later, of course!) This week has been filled with breathtaking scenery, scrumptious food, and a visit to the Palais Garnier.
The Eurostar journey from London was, as ever, pure bliss. It's like a giant, rolling party with a little bit of glamour and a lot of croissants. Plus, it gives me the chance to admire the changing landscape of England, then the gorgeous green rolling hills of northern France before we reach the magic of Paris.
Speaking of magical, how's this for a moment? Reaching Gare du Nord, all my luggage miraculously in tow, I spotted the most perfect pink carousel just outside the station. My little ballerina heart almost burst with joy! I felt like a fairytale princess transported to another time, a time when the streets were filled with wonder.
I found my charming hotel, settled in, then immediately set off to explore the cobbled streets of the Marais, which is one of my favourite districts. Oh, how I adore these winding, history-filled lanes. It was here I had the most incredible macarons ever. And of course, a little bit of vintage shopping was in order - I found a beautiful, vintage 1950's dress in a cute little shop hidden down an alley. It's pure pink, just a tad faded from years of loving wear, but still, utterly gorgeous!
Sunday saw me at the Palais Garnier. Seeing a ballet in the iconic, opulently decorated opera house is an experience everyone must try at least once in their lifetime. I was lucky enough to see Swan Lake and it was perfect - so elegant and breathtakingly beautiful. As usual, my own ballet muscles were twitching with excitement!
Later, I went to see a stunning ballet performance by the talented young students at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. It was so moving. These young artists will be our future ballet stars and the future of dance! I bought some delicious cakes in a little bakery afterwards and had them overlooking the beautiful Sacré-Cœur.
This week's fashion has definitely had a Parisienne vibe. Lots of elegant hats, long scarves, a little bit of lace here, and there and chic trench coats that just scream sophisticated French chic. My personal wardrobe choices included a pretty vintage beret I picked up in a boutique tucked away in Montmartre (I adore that place! All artistic vibes). But I have been indulging in my passion for tulle as usual - there's nothing like twirling around the Latin Quarter in a swishing tutu skirt, feeling like a Parisian ballerina, right?
Tomorrow, I am taking a long walk down the Seine, hopefully catching a view of the Eiffel Tower from a charming café. And then, maybe, just maybe, I will be adventurous and have a go on the horse-drawn carriages that circle around the Jardin du Luxembourg. They seem so wonderfully old-world, and they do a lovely, rhythmic trot that I think will inspire my next dance piece!
Speaking of inspiration, what do you lovely ladies think? I have a dream that I will soon be traveling around the world, spreading the love of pink tutus and ballet, to inspire and delight everyone, wherever they may be. Maybe I will start a worldwide tutu parade? Imagine, millions of ladies in pink tulle, dancing in unison around the globe! (If you want to help me spread the message, feel free to wear pink, twirl, and post your pictures on the Pink Tutu Blog, so we can start the movement!)
It’s time for me to put away the laptop and get ready for another day of exploring Paris! Don’t forget to follow the Pink Tutu Blog every week for a glimpse of my ballerina life in this amazing city!
Au revoir, mes chéries, and remember to always dance like nobody is watching!
Lots of pink love, Emma
