Pink Tutu Blog - Paris: Post #243 - Saturday 2004-08-21 - Exploring the City of Lights!

Bonjour mes amies!

I'm so thrilled to be back in Paris! It feels like ages since I last graced the cobbled streets of this magical city, and the air is buzzing with that intoxicating Parisian energy – even in August!

I arrived yesterday, thanks to the magic of EuroStar (oh, to be whisked away on a luxurious, pink carriage!). My journey was oh-so-stylish – you can bet I wore my most elegant tutu, adorned with a swathe of pale pink silk that perfectly matched the cloudless sky!

Paris has a special place in my heart – the city just begs to be danced in! It's a swirling whirlwind of chic cafes, art-deco architecture and impossibly beautiful shops brimming with fashion delights! Of course, a trip to Paris is never complete without indulging in a performance or two at the Palais Garnier. The atmosphere, the elegance, the costumes, the magic – it all simply transports me to a different world, and that's what I love about ballet.

Speaking of the ballet, today, my loves, I treated myself to a special ballet experience: a performance of Giselle at the Opera Garnier. The staging, the costumes, and the dancing were simply divine! Giselle is one of my absolute favourite ballets. I find myself lost in the tragic, heart-breaking love story of Giselle, and it's always such a moving and emotional performance.

Before I delve into today's Parisian escapades, I need to share my exciting news with you: this past week, I have secured three beautiful opportunities!

  • The prestigious Royal Opera House is offering me a solo performance in their upcoming Nutcracker. Can you imagine?! A pink-tutu ballerina dancing amongst the Christmas spirit of the Royal Ballet. Dreams really do come true!
  • There's a charming theatre festival happening in my hometown, Derby, in a few months' time. I'll be sharing the stage with some wonderful artists!
  • Oh, and for those of you in the know, I have an exciting gig lined up in the capital, a chance to share my love of ballet with an audience of eager dancers in London's Royal Academy of Dance.

So you see, it's going to be a very busy autumn indeed! And what better way to celebrate the triumphs than with a romantic Parisian weekend?

Parisian Promenade: A Stroll Along The Seine

The day dawned bright and sunny, perfect for strolling along the Seine. Today, my look was classic and feminine: a billowing blush pink tulle tutu with delicate rose embroideries, matching pastel pink beret and my beloved vintage pink suede pumps. It's all about capturing that whimsical Parisian je ne sais quoi!

As I crossed the iconic Pont Neuf, I couldn't help but imagine myself as a Parisian beauty in a vintage film. The elegant bridge, with its ornate details and charming cafes on the riverbank, transports you to a timeless era. I made a stop for a picnic along the Seine – delicious crusty bread, French cheese, and an oh-so-French cup of cafe au lait. It's the simple pleasures, my dear friends, that make life oh-so-delicious!

A Fashion Feast: Le Marais & The Galleries Lafayette

Of course, no Parisian trip is complete without some retail therapy! I wandered through the bohemian delights of Le Marais – so many little shops filled with unique finds, trinkets, and whimsical homeware. I was especially enchanted by the array of vintage scarves and Parisian silk creations! You can find absolutely anything here, if you dig a bit and use your imagination.

Afterwards, I hopped on the metro to make my way to the grand Galleries Lafayette. This iconic department store is a feast for the senses - glittering glass dome ceilings, luxurious French boutiques and, most importantly, an enchanting rooftop cafe with sweeping views of Paris. It was there, sipping on my afternoon tea and indulging in a delicate croissant, that I saw an enchanting fashion show happening. It was like a dream - a parade of pink and light blue hues, feminine silhouettes, and vibrant florals - oh, how I love the elegance of French design!

Paris By Night: Dinner & A Show

Tonight, I'm planning on a beautiful evening out: dinner at a quaint French restaurant nestled amongst the historic buildings in St. Germain des Prés, followed by a live performance of "Le Moulin Rouge" . I cannot wait to lose myself in the magic of the show - a breathtaking cabaret with sparkling costumes, sensational dancers, and, of course, an unforgettable show. It promises to be an enchanting end to this delightful Parisian weekend.

Tutu Tips for a Parisian Adventure

Oh, my dears, there's no need to pack for weeks on end. My advice is to take just a few essential pink tutu outfits – a timeless ballerina classic is all you need! The rest can be found amongst the many wonderful boutiques in this enchanting city. Here's a little guide from my Parisian adventure to help you find the perfect Parisian ensemble:

  • *Pink, Pink and more Pink! * Paris loves pink! Think vintage shades of pink for that effortlessly chic look: soft pastel, pale pink and delicate blush tones.
  • Tutu Up the City! Of course, every fashion-loving woman must take a pink tutu with her when venturing to the City of Lights! Opt for a shorter tutu - you want a look that is both fashionable and easy to wear around the city.
  • A Classic French Beret What's a Parisian adventure without a chic, elegant French beret? This must-have accessory can transform any outfit in an instant, adds a vintage Parisian flair to your look and provides warmth on cooler days.
  • An Exquisite Necklace A touch of delicate gold chain or pearls is the perfect finishing touch for an effortless look. It adds that extra hint of Parisian sophistication.
  • Gorgeous Vintage Shoes A little something vintage is a must, whether you’re looking for classic ballet flats or a pair of statement shoes! Look for stylish suede pumps or classic loafers with a pop of pink - and you’ll be on your way to a perfect Parisian adventure.

And remember, don't be afraid to express your inner Parisian!

Au revoir my dears! See you next week for my next Paris blog!

Lots of Love and Pink Kisses!
