Pink Tutu Blog Paris - Post #421: Bonjour, Paris! (2008-01-19)

Bonjour mes amis! It's Emma here, reporting live from the most fabulous city on Earth - Paris! And yes, I'm wearing my pink tutu! Why wouldn't I? The City of Lights calls for a little extra sparkle, don't you think?

It's Saturday morning, and the sun is streaming through my hotel window, painting the Parisian rooftops in a soft, golden light. I woke up feeling like a Parisian princess - well, except for the part where I hadn't yet sampled the croissants.

But first, a little bit about how I got here!

This trip has been a long time coming - ever since I started taking ballet classes in Derbyshire, I dreamt of one day dancing in Paris. The romance of it all, the grand theatres, the legendary dancers - it all seemed like a fairytale. And, as we all know, fairytales do come true, even for pink tutu-wearing ballerinas!

After weeks of saving up from my ballet performances - every pirouette, every grand jeté brought me closer to this dream! - I hopped on the EuroStar, surrounded by beautiful people dressed in chic outfits and whispering about fashion and art. It's almost impossible not to feel elegant when surrounded by such exquisite surroundings. The EuroStar itself is a marvel!

Anyway, let me tell you, it was quite the experience. Even the train journey itself felt like part of a performance. Imagine it, if you will: me, in my perfectly-pink tutu, a little suitcase tucked between my feet, a book of French poetry tucked under my arm, gazing out the window as the French countryside whizzes past. Yes, I was the belle of the train. (Maybe slightly over-exaggerating, but the twinkle in the conductor's eye gave me hope.)

Reaching Gare du Nord was a sensory overload! So much history, so much life, and it was clear right away that Paris is the city for lovers of fashion, art, and dance.

What's On This Saturday in Paris?

After settling in, it's time for a bit of exploring. And what a beautiful day to be exploring Paris! The air is crisp, the sun is warm, and the streets are full of people bustling about, enjoying the city's vibrant energy.

I'm feeling particularly excited about tonight's ballet show! We're going to see Swan Lake at the beautiful Palais Garnier opera house - imagine! You can't get more elegant than this. (Honestly, I'm starting to feel a little self-conscious in my tutu – maybe I should’ve opted for a bit of black with the pink to keep it chic, but I guess that's part of my look!)

In between the excitement, I'm also looking forward to some window shopping on the Champs-Élysées, and perhaps even trying a few "petits gâteaux" in a charming café on Rue de Rivoli. After all, ballet takes energy!

But before all the fun starts, I'll be taking you along for the ride with more snapshots, more anecdotes, and hopefully some "Pink Tutu Tips" for fellow ballerinas who want to visit Paris (you don’t have to wait until you are a star, although a trip with the Russian National Ballet might be just the thing!). So, follow along, and let's have some fun together.

Remember to come back for the next post next Saturday on www.pink-tutu.com - because, who knows what kind of magic Paris holds for a ballerina in a pink tutu? Au revoir, mes chéris!
