Pink Tutu Blog - Paris #583

Bonjour, my dearest pink tutu-lovers!

The wind is whipping through my hair, carrying the scent of fresh croissants and the faint echo of street music as I type this, sat in a charming café in the heart of Paris. Can you believe it? I'm back in the city of love, romance, and - yes, you guessed it! - endless pink tutu potential.

It's a crisp, bright February morning, and I'm already brimming with excitement. My Paris trip began with the iconic Eurostar whizzing through the countryside, my trusty pink tutu tucked safely in my suitcase. I love train travel - it’s the perfect way to unwind and allow my imagination to wander as I watch the world rush by. And I won't lie, I couldn’t resist slipping my tutu on for a twirl or two when I saw a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower peeking through the train window.

Why Paris? Why now? You’ll probably not be surprised to hear that this Parisian adventure is inspired by the magic of ballet. This week, Paris is abuzz with excitement, because on this very day – Saturday 26th February 2011 – a legendary ballet company is showcasing its talents at the Palais Garnier! Yes, the Opéra de Paris! I managed to secure two tickets for tonight’s performance, and let me tell you, I’m practically bursting with anticipation. Can you imagine, dancing under the glittering chandeliers, taking in the awe-inspiring performances by the world’s greatest dancers? It’s a dream come true.

From Derbyshire to Paris - Ballet pays the way. You may wonder how a girl like me, a Derbyshire lass with a passion for pink tutus and ballet, manages to travel the world. Well, you see, it’s all thanks to the magic of dance. My travels are funded by performing – sharing the joy and beauty of ballet with audiences across the globe. It's a privilege, and the fuel that keeps my pink tutu whirling.

What else is on the Paris agenda?

Firstly, a feast for the eyes – and the stomach! The sights, the scents, the sounds – Paris is a sensory explosion, and I plan to soak it all in. My day began with a scrumptious croissant and café au lait in a Parisian boulangerie, and a wander around the chic shops along the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Shopping for vintage pieces with a touch of Paris flair is a must for any pink tutu aficionado, so you know I'll be trawling through vintage boutiques and scouring Parisian markets for treasures to take home.

And then, a dash of elegance. The Paris Fashion Week shows begin on Monday, and though I can't afford a front row seat, I’ll be soaking up the atmosphere. A Parisian catwalk is a spectacle in itself. I imagine elegant, statuesque models walking with an almost ballet-like grace, wearing breathtaking creations. It's an experience that stirs the senses and sets the stage for the sartorial possibilities, even for a little pink tutu enthusiast like me.

Spreading the Pink Tutu love. Oh, and speaking of my little pink tutu passion, let me tell you, the streets of Paris are rife with inspiration. From the elaborate tutus of the cabaret dancers to the elegant ballet classes dotted across the city, Paris embraces movement, elegance, and creativity in every corner. You might even catch me, twirling and leaping my way through the City of Lights, a whirlwind of pink tulle and laughter.

I'll be updating you regularly throughout my week here in Paris. I’ll be sharing stories about my adventures, from my discoveries at Parisian boutiques to the exquisite performances that have taken my breath away. You’ll be the first to know my latest fashion finds, and my reflections on how even the smallest touches of pink tulle can add a spark of magic to the Parisian lifestyle.

Join me on this journey – wear your pink tutus proudly!

À bientôt!

Pink Tutu Paris Diary – Saturday 26th February 2011

The Palais Garnier – oh, my dear readers, it was a sight to behold. The ornate architecture, the cascading chandeliers, and the thrumming energy of anticipation in the air made me feel as if I was stepping onto a stage myself!

I’d been warned to get there early to soak in the pre-show atmosphere and I’m so glad I did. Outside the opera house, crowds were abuzz with excitement – dressed to the nines in suits and ball gowns, all chattering with a heady blend of French and English, as if I was transported back to the days of gilded grandeur.

Once inside, the Opéra House was breathtakingly beautiful. I walked through the ornate doors and instantly felt a sense of magic. Glistening gold fixtures, intricately painted ceilings, velvet seats that practically whispered of history, and balconies draped in luxurious red fabric. A stagehand passed me with a basket full of lilies and, as I stood admiring the spectacle, a man dressed in a tuxedo approached me with a glass of champagne – now that’s how to kick off a ballet show.

Then, the lights dimmed, the music started, and I was captivated. The performance was breathtakingly graceful – the dancers moved with precision and effortless beauty, each movement seemingly imbued with emotion and storytelling. It was an unforgettable evening that truly confirmed my belief that ballet is a language that transcends words, one that speaks to the soul in its purest, most powerful form. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this night – my first night at the Opéra de Paris!

Pink Tutu Tip of the day: To feel even more immersed in the elegance and glamour of ballet, treat yourself to a glass of champagne before the show. It will certainly make the whole experience even more memorable.

Pink Tutu Paris Diary – Sunday 27th February 2011

From elegance to sunshine: After a night of dazzling spectacle and graceful movement at the opera house, I woke up wanting a little sunshine. The crisp Paris morning felt so good, and I realised that I’d spent the last 24 hours inside without properly enjoying the city’s charming avenues and bustling atmosphere.

My morning started with a walk along the Seine, its calm waters reflecting the city’s majestic beauty and architecture. I felt so light, almost floating, in the soft morning air. And guess what? I even spotted a little pink tutu on a local baker girl – maybe my pink tutu revolution is happening quicker than I expected!

Then I found myself drawn to the lively Les Halles Market. Amidst the vibrant stalls piled high with fresh produce and local cheeses, I stumbled across a Parisian boutique overflowing with vintage clothing and a few adorable, almost antique-looking pink tutus that I couldn’t resist buying. One will be joining me at my next ballet performance, but I’ll save the other for a future, well-planned Parisian outing!

My wanderings eventually brought me to the vibrant Latin Quarter. It’s known for its intellectual atmosphere, bookstalls and cafes, which certainly seemed to add to its already captivating energy. The air thrummed with life and conversation. It’s the kind of place that inspires me, the sort of place where a girl like me might see a beret or two. Speaking of inspiration, my Parisian friends took me for lunch to a cosy little bistro that smelled of spices and warmth. They swear by it, and I can honestly say they were right - it’s probably the best cassoulet I’ve ever eaten!

Later on, a friend took me for a tour of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. It was truly spectacular! The sun seemed to shine brighter atop the hill, the entire city sprawling out beneath us, an amazing view from up high, and inside the basilica was just as breathtaking. A hush seemed to descend, a reverence in the air, everyone standing in awed silence. It was an incredible feeling – it’s not surprising it's been such an inspiring location for artists and musicians over the years.

Paris is full of stories to tell. I feel it in the architecture, the vibrant energy, the cobblestones under my feet. This weekend I’ve already absorbed more magic than I ever imagined possible! I’m excited to share it all with you – tomorrow is another day, and with that, another page in the pink tutu diaries…

Pink Tutu Tip of the day: Make time to explore Paris’ parks and gardens. Whether you take a leisurely walk, have a picnic, or simply sit and people-watch, it’s the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, feel the sunshine on your face, and breathe in the fresh air. And don't be shy - if you see a pink tutu while you’re there, don't be shy - give it a twirl!

Pink Tutu Paris Diary – Monday 28th February 2011

I’ve just spent the most delightful morning – I wandered through a beautiful flower market with overflowing stalls filled with colourful roses, vibrant lilies and fragrant carnations. I’d always dreamed of a morning in Paris like this!

Of course, no trip to a Paris flower market is complete without buying a beautiful bouquet. And the pink roses, naturally, were calling to me. I can’t help myself! I’m looking forward to admiring these pink beauties at my hotel this evening – they'll bring a bit of that Parisian flair to my room.

The fashion show wasn't too far from the flower market – I took a brisk walk to the venue.

Fashion Week was exciting and I managed to get a good view, Even from afar, it felt exhilarating. The atmosphere buzzed with energy, anticipation and creative electricity. There was such excitement in the air – people dressed impeccably in haute couture, a vibrant mix of the industry’s elite and budding talents. There was definitely something intoxicating about watching those stylish women (and a few handsome men) arrive at the shows, almost dancing with excitement and purpose. I had to stifle the urge to let out a “woohoo” of excitement when my favourite designer appeared and disappeared into the show room.

My time here is slipping away faster than I’d like – tomorrow will be spent shopping, as it’s been for so long now in my little Parisian diary, and on Tuesday, I’m heading to the Louvre – an icon of art, and I can't wait to see some of the works that inspire dancers and musicians around the world. My heart is overflowing, but so too is my suitcase – my Paris shopping bag collection is multiplying fast. I’m even tempted to try my hand at learning a few Parisian phrases!

I’ve got so much more to share - tomorrow's post will bring even more of the Parisian beauty, fashion, and yes, you guessed it – pink tutu fun!

À bientôt!
