Pink Tutu Blog Paris: #584 - Saturday 5th March 2011 - Ooh la la! Exploring the City of Lights
Hello my darling tutus! I'm so thrilled to be finally writing to you from Paris! It was an absolute whirlwind journey on the Eurostar, and even though I had to squeeze my darling pink tutu into the overhead luggage compartment (don't worry, I carefully packed it in a tutu-shaped case!) it was so worth it. After all, nothing beats that feeling of zipping across the Channel, watching the world go by, and knowing you're heading straight for the heart of fashion, the magic of ballet, and a city brimming with delicious croissants!
As soon as I arrived, I could feel the energy, the excitement, and the je ne sais quoi that only Paris can offer. The streets were abuzz, the shops overflowing with beautiful clothes, and I even saw a few tutus peeking out of windows – already making headway in my campaign to get the whole world wearing pink tutus!
But enough about tutus for now (though I swear, they're always on my mind!). Today's adventure started with a classic Parisian experience: a stop at a boulangerie. Let me tell you, nothing compares to the scent of fresh bread baking in the morning! And oh my, those buttery croissants? A symphony of flaky, delicious perfection!
After that heavenly start, it was time to take on the sights! Of course, no trip to Paris would be complete without visiting the Eiffel Tower. I found myself completely mesmerised by its beauty. It just glows in the sunshine! After my Eiffel Tower adventure, I meandered through the Tuileries Gardens, stopping for a moment to watch some of the most impressive street performers. I swear, these artists can create magic right before your very eyes – dancing on stilts, juggling with balls and clubs, and contorting themselves into positions I wouldn't even dare try in a warm-up class. It truly makes me appreciate how incredible the human body can be!
But of course, no trip to Paris would be complete without a touch of theatre. This evening, I had the pleasure of seeing an absolutely stunning performance of 'The Nutcracker' at the Opera Garnier. Oh, the sheer spectacle, the captivating choreography, and the most exquisite costumes! Even if I was the only one there in a tutu, I was living my best balletic life! (But in truth, I was actually delighted to spot a couple of other tutu-wearers. Maybe we should start a flash mob in the next performance, eh?)
The highlight of the evening? The sugarplum fairy! It’s quite hard to explain to anyone who’s never seen ballet, but this incredible ballerina floated across the stage like a feather in the wind. Honestly, I can barely even hold my posture like that for a minute, and she does it for the entire dance! Sigh. My ballerina idols are truly an inspiration.
Speaking of inspiring, my own latest performance last week was a huge success! The new ballet piece I choreographed about the journey of a tiny tutu from the shop floor to the stage was incredibly well received. The audience loved the dramatic lighting, the moving narrative, and of course, the adorable pink tutu that danced at the centre of the story. The funds I raise from these performances make my adventures possible. And you know what? Seeing all those faces lit up by the magic of ballet is truly the best reward.
So, as the day comes to a close, the charming French capital still has its magical hold on me. The beautiful city, the delicious food, and the chance to share my passion for ballet – I wouldn’t trade this life for the world! But, for now, it’s time for a relaxing hot bath and a cup of French Earl Grey before drifting off to the dreams of tomorrow's adventures.
I promise to share them all with you next Saturday. Until then, darling tutus, be sure to keep your hearts open, your spirits high, and don’t forget to rock those tutus! (Pink ones, of course. I wouldn’t expect anything less!)
