#PinkTutuBlogParis - Post 649: Bonjour from the City of Lights!

Saturday 2012-06-02

Darling readers!

It's Saturday morning here in Paris, and I'm just sipping a cup of frothy cappuccino in my little Parisian hotel room. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the air is alive with the sound of chatter and laughter from the bustling streets below. Oh, how I adore this city!

I arrived late yesterday, thanks to the EuroStar whisking me away from the damp, dreary drizzle of Derbyshire to the warm, sunny charm of France. Yes, the journey was so quick, it seemed like a magical ballet in itself. From the comfort of the plush, red velvet seats to the perfectly-timed refreshment cart that appeared as if by magic, the whole experience was delightful!

Now, I’ve been to Paris before, but this trip is different. It's all about the shows, the shopping, and the sheer joy of being in one of the world's most beautiful and inspiring cities. You know how I feel about tutus – they're like a portable dream, a beacon of confidence, and I simply couldn't leave home without mine! A luscious, salmon-pink tulle creation, naturally.

Last night, I went on a mission to find the perfect Paris souvenir: a beret! I adore berets, don't you? The little French flair, so effortless and chic! After browsing a few vintage shops, I found a glorious maroon one with a beautiful silk lining. It fit perfectly and felt wonderfully French. I can't wait to twirl in it at tonight’s performance.

Speaking of performances, oh, the treat I have planned for tonight! The world-famous Paris Opera Ballet are performing Swan Lake! Oh my, just the thought of those breathtaking sets, those intricate movements, and that exquisite music sends shivers down my spine.

You see, my friends, ballet is more than just a performance, it's an escape, a way to dream, and an embodiment of all that's graceful and beautiful. I'll be sure to take a thousand photos of the costumes and share my experience with you next week.

But back to my Parisian adventure!

Yesterday, after I settled into my hotel, I found the perfect little cafe near the Eiffel Tower. It was overflowing with Parisian charm, a sea of swirling cigarette smoke, clinking cups, and friendly conversation. I enjoyed a decadent croissant and a glass of the most delicious apple cider you could imagine, all while people-watching. Paris is just a constant ballet of beauty and intrigue, from the stylish passersby in their sharp suits and flowing dresses, to the charming little Parisian children giggling on the sidewalk, their faces bright with innocence and mischief.

After my delightful cafe escapade, I made my way to the iconic Louvre Museum, just a hop and a skip from the Eiffel Tower. My dear friend Chloe, who knows her way around Paris better than the locals, recommended a visit. Now, while I appreciate the wonders of the Mona Lisa and all that Renaissance artistry, it was actually the magnificent architecture of the Louvre that had me spellbound! The grand staircases, the intricate carvings, and the sense of history that filled the halls - all so awe-inspiring.

Later, after a light lunch of quiche and salad, I did some exploring around the charming cobbled streets near the Seine. My favourite thing about Paris, besides the fashion, is the abundance of quirky vintage shops. Each one, a hidden gem, overflowing with forgotten treasures and fascinating trinkets from a bygone era. Today, I came home with a delicate hand-painted teacup and saucer, perfect for a spot of afternoon tea with a view of the Eiffel Tower.

It’s a wonder that my tiny suitcase isn't overflowing, but then, perhaps that’s the beauty of Paris – it has a knack for shrinking one's world down to its essentials. What's important is not the physical souvenirs, but the memories etched upon my soul, the new perspectives gained, and the feeling of contentment that Paris always provides.

Oh, and don’t even get me started on the shoes!

Paris is, after all, the home of high fashion.

Tonight, however, I’m keeping it simple: a beautiful black lace dress paired with my faithful pink tutu (a dash of playful sparkle is essential, after all). My ballet shoes are polished and my ballet hair is perfectly pulled back – after all, one must make a good first impression on the Paris Opera Ballet!

Stay tuned next week, my loves! Until then, don’t forget to sprinkle your days with a little sparkle!

Much love,

Emma.

P.S. Did you know, the Paris Opera Ballet have been performing since 1669! That’s incredible!
