#PinkTutuBlogParis - Saturday 2020-12-12: Exploring Paris! (Post #1094)
Bonjour mes amies!
I’m back with another Parisian adventure, and oh my goodness, this city just never gets old! This week’s journey began on a frosty, crisp Saturday morning in Derbyshire. After a breakfast of crumpets and strong English tea, I donned my favourite pink tutu (naturally!) and made my way to the station for my EuroStar to Paris.
You see, the secret to being a tutu-wearing travelling ballerina is to be prepared! With my ballet shoes, extra tulle, and my trusty pink backpack containing a book, some lipstick and a small, yet sparkly, change of clothes, I am never without the essentials!
The EuroStar ride was absolutely magical. Gliding through the Channel Tunnel and then arriving in Gare du Nord felt like a scene from a fairytale.
The smell of fresh croissants at the bakery nearby was intoxicating. The Parisian air filled with the joyful shouts of children and the melodic tunes of buskers, was like a siren song beckoning me deeper into this wonderful city.
Of course, I immediately made a bee-line for the nearest Metro station. Navigating Paris’ underground system is an art in itself, with its vintage charm and beautiful tiles – just be sure to pick up your travel pass and learn to say 'bonjour' to the friendly Metro attendants!
A Whirlwind of Tutus and Tulle:
My first destination was the famous Galeries Lafayette, the grand Parisian department store that every fashionista dreams of exploring. The moment I walked into the opulent surroundings of the main atrium, with its glistening dome and glittering chandeliers, I knew I had found my happy place!
A vibrant display of colours in the latest designer creations tempted my shopping soul. I couldn’t resist browsing the fashion sections, hoping to find a stunning new pink dress or some divine, glittering tulle for my next tutu creation.
However, my mission wasn't entirely focused on shopping. I had a ballet appointment! Paris boasts many incredible ballet schools, and I had been looking forward to trying out a new class at the Ecole de Danse Française, in the charming Marais district.
The studio was small and intimate, with walls lined with framed photos of famous ballerinas, a legacy of passion and dedication. As I warmed up my muscles in the elegant barre exercises, my fellow students (of all ages and skill levels) exuded such enthusiasm. This studio truly felt like a family of dancers, each dedicated to honing their artistry. The atmosphere was electric with a beautiful energy.
Following my ballet lesson, I wandered through the quaint streets of the Marais, admiring the colourful boutiques and charming cafés, savoring the energy of the Parisian day. I picked up a stunning pink velvet beret – an essential Parisian accessory – and of course, enjoyed a traditional French lunch with a delicious creamy cheese soup and crusty bread.
A Parisian Night Under the Stars:
Evening in Paris holds a special kind of magic. It was time for a truly special treat, a performance of 'The Nutcracker' at the historic Opéra Garnier! Oh my goodness, this beautiful venue took my breath away! The opulence of its gilded interiors, intricate details and sheer grandeur simply transported me to a different era.
Watching Tchaikovsky's masterpiece come to life was pure magic. The dancers' effortless movements and expressive storytelling had the entire audience enraptured. It was as though everyone had been transported into the whimsical world of Clara and the Nutcracker, experiencing their journey with awe and wonder.
Later, after a light and airy dinner at a cozy bistro with live jazz music, I took a romantic stroll by the Seine, captivated by the sparkling lights reflected on the river’s surface. As I strolled through the city, I reflected on this amazing day, thinking about how fortunate I am to share my love of ballet, travel, and, of course, pink tutus with the world!
Pink Tutu Tip for this Week!
My dear friends, I’ve had several questions lately about creating your own unique tutu. If you’re feeling brave, gather up your supplies - fabric scraps, tulle in various colors and a little hot glue - and give it a try. Experiment with textures and designs to find your personal style. It’s an exciting process, a fantastic creative outlet, and a great way to add a splash of personality to your look.
Remember to wear your tutus with pride and confidence, and remember - you don't need to be a ballerina to enjoy the feeling of a graceful twirl!
Until next Saturday, au revoir!
Stay pink!
Emma
