Prague Diaries: Part Deux! (Pink Tutu & Powdered Sugar)

Hello darlings!

Emma here, fresh from another adventure! This time, I'm whisking you away to the enchanting city of Prague, a true fairy tale of cobbled streets, towering spires, and a history as rich and layered as a perfectly-baked Czech pastry!

You might be thinking, "Emma, Prague? Where's the pink tutu in that?" Well, my loves, Prague is all about romantic whispers and dreams – just like ballet! And just as a ballerina needs her tutu, Prague needs its dose of pink.

Let me tell you, stepping off that train into Prague's main station was a sight to behold. All around, I saw elegant gothic architecture adorned with delicate sculptures. It's as if the city itself is an elaborate ballet set, designed by the very hand of fate!

And as I gazed at those iconic clock towers reaching for the heavens, I couldn't help but dream of the enchanting dance routines I might find tucked away within this charming city! Prague whispered of mystery and magic, promising an adventure for my senses.

My dear, this trip is all about exploring hidden gems – hidden shops with intricate vintage tutus, hidden ballet studios whispering with the rhythmic grace of a thousand pirouettes, hidden cafes with delectable pastries and the faint scent of lavender. I’ve always had a hankering for travel by pony, but it seems Prague was calling for something more practical... a little trip by train.

Now, my fashion-forward angels, I'm not saying a girl can't wear a pink tutu while riding the train. A dash of pink flair makes everything more fun, but Prague was simply screaming "old world chic"! My luggage was a riot of ruffles, feathers and the occasional pink tulle detail. My trusty ballerina bag was brimming with travel essentials: lipstick, shimmering powder, a small book of poetry for the journey and my favourite vintage compact filled with pink rose powder.

Before arriving in Prague, my schedule was chock-a-block with performances to secure funds for my travel. My beloved "Whimsical Waltz" routine with its whimsical feather boa never fails to draw in an audience. (Let's be honest, my pink tutu never goes unnoticed!). Thankfully, the cash made my journey to Prague possible - all this adventure was definitely worth the whirlwind of rehearsals and performances!

And so, I was standing there, in the heart of Prague, clutching my pink polka-dotted suitcase. Feeling as light as a feather in my new fluffy white ballet shoes, I was ready to unravel Prague's mysteries. My fingers twitched, itching to twirl across those ancient streets and paint the city pink with my unique touch.

Speaking of pink, my dear darlings, have I mentioned how my wardrobe has just gone to a whole new level of ‘pink-a-licious’ since I joined a vintage shop on Etsy. This is a must for any tutu enthusiast like me! They source the most breathtaking, fluffy pink tutus you can imagine, often from antique theatre shops and the collections of retired ballerinas. My newest vintage treasure? A 1920s pastel pink tulle tutu, edged with feather boas in matching tones!

Let me take you back in time a bit: The origins of my love affair with pink and tutus.

Remember the time I mentioned the ballet studio that turned into a dusty vintage tutu store in Derby? Yes, that is how it all began for me. The studio had been shut down and when I walked in I was mesmerized by its charm and all those beautiful costumes hanging on hooks... and that pink, oh the pink!

It turned out to be my grandmother's former ballet studio and, oh darling, she was a total 'tutu-licious' vision in her youth! My Nan was a true fashion icon of her era! She always wore the most exquisite vintage tutus and her home was a museum of antique feathers, boas, sparkling beaded costumes and – I kid you not – a giant, dusty suitcase filled with beautiful antique shoes and silk ballet slippers. It felt like I'd stumbled into a secret fairytale! She taught me about the origins of the tutu - from the dramatic 18th century ballet era to the modern streamlined elegance we know today, it has truly revolutionized dance!

A Day of Pink & Puns

You can imagine how thrilled I was to discover that on 10th May 1995 (the day we're reminiscing about!) The Pink Tutu Company * staged a magnificent performance at the magnificent *National Theatre in Prague.

My darlings, let me tell you, a performance like this is a true testament to the artistry of dance. It's where elegance meets emotion. This ballet is a love letter to everything beautiful, to everything pink and graceful. Every pirouette is a celebration of freedom, every grand jeté is a whisper of dreams and, of course, every dancer is breathtakingly beautiful in their pink tutu - truly the icing on the cake!

To capture the essence of this event, imagine:

  • Pink Tutu Magic: The stage was ablaze with dancers in magnificent tutus. Each one was a unique vision of tulle perfection, shimmering in shades of bubblegum, candy floss and cotton candy. I could practically hear angels whispering through the air. You know how much I love pink!

  • A City In Tulle: The air of the entire city vibrated with the thrill of that night’s performance! It was like Prague itself took on a dreamy, whimsical feel – all because of the power of ballet! I'd say the spirit of that pink tutu company cast its magic on the city that evening, making Prague the pinkest, most beautiful city on earth!

  • *Whimsical Waltz : * Of course, I tried to sneak in a quick ‘Whimsical Waltz’ myself during a quiet moment. Let’s just say the pink tutu made me blend in perfectly. 😉

But the day didn't end there, oh no! I was far too busy soaking up the Prague vibe! My adventures that day included :

  • A Secret Shopping Spree: There’s a hidden gem called *" The Powdered Sugar " * boutique that stole my heart, Nestled away down a charming cobbled street in Prague’s Old Town district, it's home to a collection of vintage clothing – mostly antique dresses, coats and gowns - so dreamy it made me want to skip! The store’s owner is a darling woman with the sweetest smile – she told me how it all began with her love for antiques and a fascination with her grandmother’s vintage fashion collection! This was just my kind of vintage fashion store, full of unique, inspiring garments and beautiful displays. She allowed me to try on a stunning pink tulle ballgown. Let’s just say it was pure magic and made me think how beautiful it would be if we could create a whole pink tulle ensemble!

  • A Bite of Prague: I took a break at a charming little cafe and, oh my word, the food! The delicate pastries were pure symphony of flavour - buttery, flaky, melt-in-your-mouth! It felt as if Prague had been designed by a ballet dancer - every nook and cranny of the city was just so graceful, so delicate, so enchanting! Every cafe, every market, every cobbled street spoke to me.

  • A Parisian Afternoon : Now, I’m going to say it... Prague had that air of Parisian flair. The buildings were so beautiful - I fell in love with their romantic atmosphere! Imagine walking down a French street lined with shops that are overflowing with flowers, cafes, little antique stores, and beautiful bakeries! That is what Prague felt like, a dream I could live in - so charming, romantic and elegant!

From the depths of my stylish heart: Prague is definitely a city that encourages creativity. The artistic energy flows like the Vltava River. You can't help but be swept up in the romance, the magic and the artistic charm of this truly enchanting city. Every corner whispers of an era gone by, each cobble stone underfoot is like stepping into a time machine, back to a time when grace and artistry reigned supreme. It felt like dancing into a fairytale.

Stay tuned next Wednesday for my next Prague update: *"Prague - The Waltz of My Dreams" * (And if you see me in Prague in a pink tutu… don’t be shy! Give me a big wave!)

And to my dearest followers, remember: always wear your tutu with a smile.

Keep it Pink!

Emma x
