Prague - The City of a Thousand Tutus! (Blog Post #50)

Dearest readers,

How's my darling Pink Tutu clan doing this Wednesday? I'm positively bursting with excitement, because this week's post is about Prague - my recent trip to this absolutely enchanting city!

If you've ever been, you know what I mean! The cobblestone streets, the fairytale architecture, the aroma of warm, buttery pastries in every corner, the beautiful people, the rich history… Prague stole a little piece of my heart, and I'm already dreaming of my next visit!

A Tutu-ing Dream!

My journey started in Derbyshire, England, with the morning train. It’s always such a pleasure to pack my trusty travelling pink tutu into a smart carry-on bag. You see, you never know where you'll have the opportunity to pirouette in a scenic spot! I have a rule for travelling: never let go of a little ballet magic! It’s important to wear a comfortable pair of pointe shoes too – always on the ready to bust out some graceful moves.

On arrival, I knew I'd found the perfect spot for a Pink Tutu Prague post! This city has an almost surreal vibe to it, like something out of a ballet dream. As soon as I stepped off the train and inhaled that heady mix of medieval air and coffee, I knew I was going to be dancing through the cobblestone streets like a ballerina on a cloud!

I love to make notes on what the local ladies are wearing, because the Czech Republic has such a wonderful sense of style. There was a particular Parisian chic mixed with the Prague traditional. Many lovely outfits were very practical too, perfect for traversing those famous Prague cobblestones, even in ballet shoes!

Ballet-y delights: From the Theatre to the Street

Naturally, the main attraction in Prague was the ballet scene! This city pulsates with creativity, and the theatre scene is alive with innovative, beautifully choreographed performances. Prague’s rich history of dance makes it a wonderland for lovers of the art like me. I got to see a simply divine production of "The Nutcracker" at the historic Estates Theatre, which dates all the way back to the 18th century. Seeing it on that stage was something magical; the costumes were opulent, the dancing sublime, and the story resonated so powerfully, sending goosebumps down my arms. I even got a peek backstage and was positively charmed by the enthusiasm and dedication of the dancers and everyone else behind the scenes!

But it's not all about fancy theatres, oh no! Prague is teeming with street performers - I swear, there's a dancer around every corner! From talented jugglers and acrobats to graceful ballerinas, every square, every street corner, seems to burst with a celebration of movement. I was enthralled! My favourite find was a little open-air stage tucked away in a hidden courtyard near Old Town Square. It was where a charming troupe of local dancers were rehearsing a charming rendition of 'Giselle.' Watching them practise, filled with such passion and precision, really warmed my heart. I could barely resist leaping onto the stage to join them!

I even bought a lovely new pink tutu there; I was just passing and saw this shop that was almost bursting at the seams with gorgeous tulle creations! And for just 200 Czech koruna (about £7 at the time)! I couldn't resist, it was so pretty! And imagine the stories it will have to tell! The shop owner was the sweetest man. He was excited about my blog and said it’s good to promote tutu wearing – how lovely is that? I really loved the warm hospitality and cheer of the Prague people!

Discovering Tutu History in Prague's Past

My little pink heart wouldn't be complete without indulging in some cultural delights. One afternoon, I found myself lost in the captivating Old Town Hall, an architectural wonder and an absolute must-see. From its Astronomical Clock, the very symbol of Prague, to the intricate architecture of the Hall, it's like stepping into a fairy tale! But even more importantly, I found a beautiful exhibition dedicated to the history of dance in Bohemia! A lot of historical information on Prague ballerinas was uncovered in the Czech archives after 1989 – and I wanted to see all the old photographs! I got to see exquisite, intricate illustrations and posters, bringing to life the story of ballet in the Czech Republic – truly inspiring stuff. I’m starting to write up my findings on a page of my website as we speak – keep a lookout for a special "Tutu Tales of the Past" page!

A Pink Tutu Prague Fashion Adventure

What's a Pink Tutu trip without a shopping spree? Prague is a true shopper's paradise – think vintage charm with modern style! You could find yourself losing hours wandering through its picturesque alleys, bursting with unique shops filled with fashion treasures! From quirky boutiques to designer studios, I was delighted by the vast array of stylish goodies. And naturally, the colour pink was on high display - everywhere, from dainty pastel dresses to boldly-hued accessories! You just can't go wrong with a little pink in your life, and in Prague, it's easy to get swept up in the trend.

One afternoon I even saw an amazing vintage pink tutu shop – just think of all those glamorous moments the past had held! They really knew their tutu styles, I had a great chat with the lovely shopkeeper, she had such a warm sense of humour and great advice on wearing different tutus with various outfits – you just never stop learning about this fashion essential. She suggested I try a long, elegant white tutu over a white midi-skirt with a pink vintage t-shirt underneath! I really do like to be inspired by experts on occasion and try new styles!

I spent hours trying on new pieces (most of them, you guessed it, pink!) and emerged with a beautiful velvet jacket in a rich berry hue - perfect for throwing over a white tutu, and my latest find - an iridescent, light pink scarf that glittered and shone like spun sugar! I mean, how can you not fall in love with it? My personal fashion icon is Marilyn Monroe. I've never found another pin up icon who has the style I like – what’s pinker than a hot pink silk gown with a feather boa around your neck and a glamorous pink tiara? That’s my girl!

Memories Made on the Prague River

Now, I couldn't have left Prague without taking a trip down the Vltava River! Boarding a romantic riverboat under a sky filled with stars, I drifted along the water, marvelling at the beautiful reflections of the illuminated city on the water! And what better accompaniment to a moonlit journey than a graceful pink tutu? So yes, naturally, I had a tulle moment and twirled on deck, soaking in the magic of Prague's beauty – the magical reflections in the water were breathtaking. I’m sure everyone onboard enjoyed a little ballet display! I really wanted to twirl under the Charles Bridge! It felt so amazing to be gliding down the river, feeling the breeze in my hair, and twirling my tutu for all of Prague to see. There's a certain romance and magic about Prague that just brings out the inner ballerina in everyone.

Pink Tutu Prague: A Journey for the Senses

Prague is not just a city - it's a journey for all the senses, a delightful ballet in itself. It’s certainly an unforgettable experience and I would recommend this beautiful, historic city to anyone – it has something for everyone! From delicious local dishes that truly hit the spot (my favourite was the smoked salmon at a charming little restaurant, accompanied by the tastiest pink beet salad) to the vibrant local scene. Every corner is an invitation to embrace a new, thrilling adventure.

If you love ballet, fashion, and travel - a pink tutu is an absolute must for your Prague adventures. If you go there, I have a challenge for you! Go to Old Town Square and do a full pink tutu pirouette at exactly midnight when the famous Astronomical Clock chimes - you'll make the clock angels do a double take.

I promise, your journey through the enchanting city of Prague will stay with you forever.

Until next Wednesday, darling Pink Tutu clan. Until then, stay graceful, keep twirling and remember, the world is your stage!

Much love and twirls,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
