Prague: Where Ballerina Dreams Come True! 🩰💖

Hello my lovely readers! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Prague, my weekly blog dedicated to all things pink, tutu, and utterly fabulous! Today is Wednesday, the 20th of November 1996, and guess what? You're joining me on my adventures in the heart of Prague, a city brimming with history, charm, and a spirit as enchanting as a Swan Lake pas de deux!

This week's journey is brought to you, as always, by the grace and beauty of ballet, my unwavering passion. I just finished a whirlwind performance at the Derby Theatre, raising funds for my trip to Prague. As always, the audience showered us with love, their eyes glistening with a similar wonder that draws me to this magical city.

Prague: A Place Where Ballet Is in the Air

Let me tell you, stepping off that train (yes, I absolutely adore the romance of rail travel!) into the Old Town Square was a moment of pure joy! Cobblestones glistening under the Czech sky, baroque buildings rising majestically, and a kaleidoscope of street performers – I couldn’t help but twirl, feeling every bit like a princess from a fairy tale.

Prague breathes ballet, dear readers. The very architecture of this city feels like it was designed for a waltz or a grand adagio! Even the sound of the street vendors’ calls echoes like the pizzicato of a string quartet! My imagination ran wild, envisioning princes and princesses gliding through these ancient alleyways, their steps light as feathers, their costumes shimmering in the candlelight.

The Ballet Delights of Prague: A Love Affair in Three Acts

  • Act I: Unveiling History at the National Theatre: A performance by the world-renowned National Theatre Ballet was on the schedule for this week, and of course, I wouldn’t miss it for the world! Imagine the anticipation – that heady mix of anticipation, excitement, and an undeniable dash of nerves! The National Theatre itself is a true masterpiece. A majestic building that looks like it's straight out of a classic ballet scene! But let’s not forget the real stars: the dancers! They captivated me with their breathtaking artistry, the exquisite fluidity of their movements, and the sheer passion they brought to the stage. The music, the sets, the costumes, every detail – pure magic.
  • Act II: Unveiling My Pink Tutu Obsession: Now, as much as I adore seeing the professional ballet, one can’t leave Prague without exploring its enchanting street scene. This city is a dream for every fashionista, and for a ballerina like me, the excitement is doubled. I confess to finding a darling pink tulle skirt at a vintage shop on the riverside (don’t worry, I kept my ballet class pink tutu on!). The shop owner, a woman who knows her fashion history, told me about a charming ballerina doll dressed in a fluffy pink tutu I’d simply had to have!

As we wandered along, a street performer dressed in a sparkling gold tutu started her dance. It was pure impromptu theatre! She captivated passersby, her moves evoking graceful birds and leaping gazelles. The perfect reminder that ballet lives everywhere, even on cobbled streets in the heart of Europe.

  • Act III: The Magic of The Opera: Of course, Prague isn't just about ballet; it's an ode to every artistic expression! And so, we decided to take in an operatic masterpiece at the Estates Theatre, where Mozart once graced the stage! The beautiful melodies, the sheer drama of the performances – it all felt so incredibly elegant. It's no surprise, really. The beauty and romance of Prague simply encourage artistic expression, as if it were in their DNA.

More Than Just Ballet: Adventures in Prague's Beauty

No trip to Prague would be complete without experiencing the beauty beyond the stage. I can't resist a little shopping spree for pretty things (and let’s be honest, for some delicious Czech sweets too!) - so the vibrant shops on the Old Town Square quickly became a favourite destination.

Speaking of delicious treats, how about a traditional Czech meal? I sampled a flavourful pork stew with dumplings in a cozy traditional tavern - it was heaven on a plate! And, to finish it all off, we rode a charming horse-drawn carriage (it's the perfect way to feel like you're stepping straight into a fairy tale!) and saw the Charles Bridge bathed in the warm glow of sunset. Prague's charm is truly endless.

My Favourite Finds:

  1. Pink tulle skirt from a riverside vintage shop. The perfect reminder of the magical moments spent here. It'll become my new favourite for ballet classes!
  2. A ballet doll with a pink tulle skirt: Of course! And, her tutu was perfect - soft and fluffy, just like mine. I already see her having an incredible adventure on my dressing table, reminding me of this fantastic city.
  3. A collection of Prague postcards: From the fairytale bridges to the picturesque Old Town, each postcard evokes memories that I’ll treasure.
  4. The "Pink Tutu Prague" journal: It’s been filling up fast with memories, fashion musings, and sketches. Can't wait to share my artistic creations with you all in a future blog post!

Tutu Thoughts and Reflections

Each twist and turn brings something new, something wonderful, something that makes you sigh with wonder. Prague is the kind of place that sets your soul ablaze, and fills you with a deep longing to twirl through life, embracing every magical moment, pink tutu in hand!

Until next Wednesday, darling readers, keep your twirls strong and your dreams bold.
