Prague: A Tutu-ful Wonderland (Blog Post #86)

Bonjour, darling readers! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another edition of Pink-Tutu.com! This week, I'm writing from the heart of Prague, a city that truly knows how to paint a picture with romance, history, and beauty. I've fallen head over heels for this place - the cobbled streets, the majestic architecture, the charming cafes... everything is like stepping straight out of a fairytale.

And what's a fairytale without a ballerina? I arrived in Prague via a whirlwind train journey straight from Derbyshire - I just adore the thrill of a fast train journey. You never quite know who you might meet, and the countryside whizzes past like a colourful film reel. Upon arriving at Prague's beautiful Hauptbahnhof, I instantly knew I was in a very special place. The station itself is an architectural marvel - so grand and elegant, with a touch of European flair that always gets me in the mood for adventure.

But what I'm most excited to tell you about is the reason I've journeyed to Prague in the first place: Ballet!

Prague boasts a rich ballet heritage, dating back to the 16th century, when the city was a vibrant centre for dance and entertainment. Imagine, darling, tutus fluttering in the cobblestone squares, beautiful melodies echoing in grand halls - oh, how I wish I could turn back the clock and experience it all!

Of course, I'm not simply here to delve into the history of Prague ballet (although that's a fascinating rabbit hole indeed!). I'm here to see some breathtaking shows, to soak up the energy of this legendary city, and most importantly, to add some Pink Tutu magic to my adventures.

Now, let's delve into my recent adventures in the charming city of Prague, a city that has completely won my heart.

A Waltz Through the City

Since arriving, I've been whisking around the city, taking in its sights and sounds at a dizzying pace. The beauty of Prague lies in its captivating mix of historic charm and modern life. I've wandered through the old town square, marvelled at the intricate Astronomical Clock, and stood mesmerised at the golden dome of St. Vitus Cathedral.

Let me tell you, a tutu isn't just for the stage, darlings. It works wonders for blending into the picturesque scenery. Prague, with its pastel-hued buildings and cobblestone lanes, seems made for twirling. I took a beautiful walk through Prague's Old Town Square, surrounded by gorgeous architecture, the smell of gingerbread and the sound of laughter and chatter filling the air. A moment so magical it felt like a dream.

Pro tip: For any ballerina, the absolute best way to get around Prague is by a horse-drawn carriage, preferably a white one, just like Cinderella! It's truly an unforgettable experience - the gentle sway of the carriage as you trot through the streets, the sound of the hooves, the wind in your hair. And let's not forget the enchanting glimpse of Prague through the horse's eyes.

Fashion Note: You cannot come to Prague without experiencing a "Prague Experience", a "Prague Style" look. I love to wear an abundance of pale pink velvet, soft satins, silk camisoles and sparkly jewel tones like sapphire, emerald, and ruby reds with touches of gold, to bring out my inner fairytale princess and create that romantic, "Czech-inspired" look. If you want to look really avant garde, like you're on the cover of *Vogue, don't be afraid to add some statement pieces like vintage jewellery, a hat, a fur stole, and maybe even a sparkly headband.

A Ballet Debut

Oh, my dears, you won't believe the performance I witnessed last night! It was simply spellbinding. It was the most fabulous display of dancing and acrobatics I've seen in a very long time. The theatre was breathtakingly ornate, with ornate chandeliers, plush velvet seating, and even a balcony where the elite used to watch the shows in all their splendour.

The company's repertoire was so captivating, from traditional Czech works to contemporary interpretations. It's incredible how these artists can convey so much with their movements - it was a real feast for the soul. You could almost taste the passion and dedication that went into every single step.

The show left me filled with joy, inspiration, and a renewed appreciation for the magic of ballet.

Fashion Tip: No tutu is too fancy for a ballet. If you're going to a big ballet show, think "maximalism". More is more when it comes to adding your own personal style to your attire. And that doesn't necessarily mean you have to spend a fortune, darling. Have a look at the vintage shops for unique pieces, or put your creative flair to good use and accessorize your favorite ballerina costume. You could wear some bright coloured heels to make your outfit "pop" even more. I adore a beautiful pink glitter bag too - it adds just the right amount of "glamour".

Indulging in Prague's Charm

Of course, no trip to Prague is complete without some indulgence. Whether it's sampling the delicious Czech cuisine - especially their famous trdelnik pastry (a heavenly combination of sugar, cinnamon, and warm dough) - or losing yourself in the delightful array of designer shops and boutiques lining the streets, there's something for every taste in Prague.

One of my favorite places I've discovered so far is a quirky little shop hidden away in a quiet corner. It's filled to the brim with vintage hats, gloves, shoes, and bags. Let me tell you, I could have spent the entire day there sifting through its treasures. The owner is an absolute darling - a friendly and chatty lady who shares my passion for all things stylish and glamorous. I picked up a vintage pink handbag, which would be the perfect addition to any ballet enthusiast's wardrobe.

Speaking of outfits, have you noticed how much the Czechs love a good hat, darling? Hats in every shape and size! So many colourful "boater" hats on the cobbled streets - perfect for a Parisian, or rather, Praguian, style.

Pink Tutu Moments

Now, every girl knows that no trip is truly complete until you find a place that makes your heart skip a beat - a spot where the energy vibrates, and you feel like you could just twirl and twirl and twirl. Well, let me tell you, Prague has so many places like this, but there's one special spot that's earned a special place in my pink tutu diary...

It's a hidden courtyard tucked away just off a busy street, a tranquil haven from the bustle of the city. It's like a secret garden - lush with foliage and overflowing with blooms, each a beautiful explosion of colour, and with delicate wrought iron seating. I've spent hours just soaking in the ambiance, enjoying the music wafting through the air, watching the pigeons coo and stroll around - you truly can't help but be at peace in this spot.

A Pink Tutu Moment: I decided to bring out my special "Pink Tutu" and put on a short little impromptu performance right there in the middle of this little sanctuary. The passers-by looked on in amusement. They weren't sure what they were seeing, but they loved it. It felt liberating - my tutu became my magic wand, creating a little bubble of pink delight. I realised, you don't need a stage to create a magical performance, all you need is a tutu and a sprinkle of "Pink Tutu" magic.

Onwards to More Ballet Adventures

My trip to Prague has been everything I could have wished for and more. Every corner of the city is full of beautiful and fascinating things. The people have been so welcoming, the sights unforgettable, and the shows just brilliant. I will be returning to this vibrant city again - I have a hunch it will be back again with even more breathtaking ballet performances in the months to come.

I'm leaving Prague feeling full of inspiration, brimming with creative energy, and excited to share my passion with you. Until next week, darlings!

Remember, wherever life takes you, embrace your inner ballerina! And always, always wear pink - it's the colour of magic and happiness, of dancing, twirling, and simply being your radiant, confident, and utterly charming self! And while you're at it, grab yourself a pink tutu, just like I do.

See you next week!

Emma

*P.S. * I am planning to go see the Royal Ballet perform "Giselle" this weekend in Prague. I am very much looking forward to it - I hear the National Theatre is truly beautiful. I'll keep you posted about that, darlings, along with all the other fabulous events, performances, and shops I'm discovering. And don't forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com - it's updated weekly, with exclusive photos, behind-the-scenes stories, and maybe even a peek into my ballerina diary.

Until next time!
