Pink Tutu Prague - Blog Post #176: A Tutu-tastic Adventure in the City of a Hundred Spires!

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, and this week I’m taking you on a magical journey to the enchanting city of Prague! This fabulous city, steeped in history and overflowing with culture, was the perfect setting for my latest ballet escapade.

As always, my trusty pink tutu – a fluffy, shimmering confection of tulle and love – joined me on this grand adventure. It’s always so exciting to see the curious stares and smiles I get as I wander around the city, spreading a little pink-tutu-love wherever I go. Prague, with its cobbled streets and enchanting architecture, just seemed to adore my flamboyant arrival!

Travelling in Style: Train and Pony

You might be surprised to hear it, but this trip to Prague started with a pony ride! Yes, darling, a pony! I found this absolutely delightful little creature patiently waiting for me at the local Derbyshire riding school. Now, while I'm a ballet aficionado, my riding skills are rather questionable, but let me tell you, that pony certainly knew how to carry a pink tutu with grace! It's a bit of a personal tradition, you know? Always trying something new, whether it's a dance style, a travel route or, well, pony rides.

The journey to Prague was then punctuated by a delightfully smooth train ride. You simply can’t beat a scenic train journey. There’s just something so charming about watching the countryside zoom by, enjoying a book, and soaking in the quiet murmur of the carriage. It gives you a chance to really disconnect and focus on the joy of simply being en route.

Pink Tutu Prague: My Fashionable Exploits

Oh, my darlings! Prague was a paradise for a fashionista like myself. I indulged in some fabulous shopping expeditions, finding the most charming boutiques filled with vintage treasures and handmade beauties. You know I have a particular weakness for vintage jewellery – think chunky, sparkling pieces that would make even a royal princess swoon – and the shops I discovered were an absolute dream.

I simply had to find the perfect new pink tutu to complement Prague’s beauty! Luckily, I stumbled upon the most gorgeous fabric store filled with the most luscious shades of pink imaginable. I practically skipped down the street, holding my treasure, practically vibrating with excitement.

Ballet Dreams in the City of Music

The real highlight of my Prague trip, however, was witnessing the breathtaking beauty of ballet performed live. The ‘PinkTutuPrague’ show, a reinterpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, truly stole my heart. Imagine this, darlings: elegant dancers in their flowing, silken tutus, a stunning symphony soaring through the air, and the sheer magic of a classical ballet right there in front of me.

It was pure enchantment! The city, the ballet, the atmosphere - it felt like being transported to a magical world where dreams were spun from stardust. You really could see why Prague was nicknamed ‘The City of a Hundred Spires’, those spires almost seeming to rise up and dance with the ballet performers!

But, darling, the fun didn't stop there. In my relentless pursuit of all things tutu-licious, I visited the Prague Ballet Museum, a hidden treasure trove of history and artistry. There, I found out the tutu itself, the symbol of the ballerina, had an unexpected origin story: in 1837, Marie Taglioni, the most renowned ballerina of her day, changed the way ballerinas danced for good! She famously ditched the long, restrictive skirts and embraced a short, tulle-heavy garment, which was both graceful and practical. Now that was a bold move, a revolutionary step towards liberating dance.

The history of the tutu is so fascinating - and there was so much I learned about how it evolved. In the late 19th century, as ballet techniques continued to refine, the tutus became more extravagant with more and more layers of tulle. This, of course, only made them more beautiful - the kind of thing I’m sure many people would agree on.

As always, it’s these tiny details of the stories that fascinate me, adding layers to the dance and the fashion. There is such a lovely story to be told behind everything we love, whether it’s a particular ballerina, a famous ballet show, a cherished tutu – everything comes together in one grand beautiful tapestry. It just needs the right kind of appreciation, and some fabulous storytelling!

My Pink Tutu Manifesto

I returned to my Derbyshire home, still buzzing with the excitement of my Prague adventure, determined to spread the joy of pink tutus everywhere I went! There’s no denying, darling, pink tutus make people smile. It’s all about having the courage to wear a pink tutu, to be flamboyant and joyous. To dance your heart out, and to embrace the beautiful chaos and whimsical freedom of expressing your personal style. I want to see everyone in a pink tutu - wouldn't that be a sight! I know it might seem like a small detail but for me, it's all part of the pink tutu journey.

I will leave you with this thought, my dearest friends. A pink tutu is a statement of self-expression, of boldness, of unapologetically embracing the power of joy! So go on, darlings, wear your pink tutus loud and proud! You'll be surprised how quickly they brighten your day – and every day needs a bit of pink-tutu-magic.

Catch you next Wednesday! Until then, keep on twirling, darlings!

Love, Emma
