Prague in Pink: A Ballerina's Dream (Post #182)

Hello darlings! It’s Wednesday again, which means a new Pink Tutu post has wafted into your inbox like a whisper of silk! I’m writing to you from the charming city of Prague, my heart absolutely bursting with the thrill of travel, a brand new pink tutu, and…ballet, of course!

As you know, I’ve always dreamt of exploring Europe by train, and this week I finally achieved it! Arriving at Prague’s majestic train station was like stepping into a fairy tale - grand arches, intricate carvings, and a whiff of romance in the air. And my dear, don’t even get me started on the glorious, historical architecture in this city. The whole place feels like a storybook come to life!

My journey here has been such an adventure! I swapped my usual high heels for a pair of comfy riding boots and spent a day galloping through the English countryside on a beautiful pony named Buttercup (who, coincidentally, is the same shade of pink as my new tutu, you won’t believe how divine it is!).

After my spirited gallop, I boarded the train for the most enchanting train journey. The world rushed past in a kaleidoscope of green fields, winding rivers, and quaint villages – absolutely picture perfect. It's funny, I always feel so connected to the history of dance when I'm on a train. I can imagine ballerinas of the past, gracefully making their way to glittering grand theatres in cities all over Europe.

Pink Perfection in Prague

Of course, I arrived in Prague armed with my favourite things: a collection of pastel pink dresses (because even a ballerina can appreciate the power of a good dress!), an array of stylish shoes (heels are definitely back in the mix!), and, of course, the new tutu!

This tutu, my loves, is a masterpiece! The skirt is crafted from layers and layers of the most exquisite tulle, it literally floats! It's a vibrant shade of pink, with just a hint of shimmer, and it catches the light like a thousand tiny stars. Oh, it's just breathtaking. And what really sets this tutu apart is the unique embellishments! A delicate lace overlay gives it a touch of vintage glamour, and a subtle cascade of sequins adds a touch of sparkle. Let’s just say, it’s the perfect accompaniment to this enchanting city!

Dance Delights at the National Theatre

Naturally, the reason I came to Prague wasn't solely for the sightseeing or the shopping (although, both are absolute delights!), but for the magnificent National Theatre! Oh, darling, let me tell you, this building is a dream come true for any ballet lover. With its exquisite architecture, rich history, and unparalleled beauty, it's truly an architectural marvel. It's as if a fairy tale has been captured in stone and brick!

This evening, the stage at the National Theatre is bursting with the brilliance of La Bayadère. A ballet masterpiece of romance, drama, and spectacular dancing. The beauty of the performance has me feeling quite swoon-worthy! And who doesn't love a good love story, right? There is nothing quite like watching a ballet, it's almost as if you're floating on clouds, surrounded by such delicate and intricate choreography, I always get a little teary-eyed, and this evening is no exception!

Tutus & Traditions

Before heading to the show, I wandered the cobbled streets of Prague, indulging in a little window shopping (what's a ballerina's life without a good browse at beautiful boutiques, eh?). The city has an abundance of vintage stores, brimming with exquisite fabrics and charming accessories. I have to confess, I was completely entranced by a particular shop tucked away on a charming little side street.

This boutique had everything a ballet aficionado could dream of, from silk ballet slippers to handmade tutus and dazzling costume jewels. The proprietor was an absolute darling and a complete ballet enthusiast. He told me all about the origins of tutus, right back to the 19th century. I found out that Marie Taglioni, the most renowned ballerina of her time, revolutionised ballet fashion by wearing a short, white, gauzy skirt called a ‘tutu’ for her role in La Sylphide in 1832! That, darlings, is true history in motion!

We chatted for hours about the evolution of tutu design – from the voluminous Romantic tutu of the 19th century to the more streamlined contemporary tutus of today. It was such a fascinating discussion and sparked my creative flair. Just thinking about how a simple design like a tutu could evolve through time and be used in different ways, that’s what really fascinates me about the art of ballet – there’s just so much to be inspired by!

Pink Perfection in the Heart of Prague

I simply cannot express how much I’m loving my time here in Prague. It's truly a city of captivating beauty and enchanting history. Everywhere I look, there's a hidden treasure to be discovered, from the stunning architecture and the bustling markets, to the charming cafes and the exquisite ballet performances. It's no wonder Prague is known as "the City of a Hundred Spires!"
