Pink Tutu Prague: Post 260

Hello, darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Prague post! I'm so excited to be here in Prague, which feels like the perfect city to unleash my inner ballerina. Think cobbled streets, baroque architecture, and that gorgeous golden hour light that just begs to be photographed! Plus, this city has a rich ballet history and so many amazing performances.

This week has been jam-packed with exciting experiences, and I simply have to tell you all about it.

Arriving in Style

I arrived in Prague last Thursday, travelling from Derbyshire by train – oh, how I love a good train journey! I've said it before and I'll say it again, there's something utterly magical about gazing out of a window at the passing scenery and dreaming up stories about the people and places we whizz past. Plus, you get to wear fabulous clothes. This trip, I travelled in a blush pink suit with a silk scarf and my signature feather boa. Naturally, I wouldn't be caught dead without my trusty tutu tucked into my travel bag – a gorgeous pastel pink tulle number with delicate layers of ruffled lace. One never knows when the opportunity might arise for a spontaneous twirl!

As I stepped onto the platform at Prague's main station, I was instantly charmed by the bustling atmosphere. The air was thick with the scent of freshly baked pastries, and I couldn't help but smile at the vibrant street life all around me. I had a feeling this city was going to be full of lovely surprises, and it most definitely was.

The Perfect Pink-tastic Boutique

No sooner had I checked into my adorable little boutique hotel – complete with a rose-covered courtyard that I immediately dreamed of spinning in! - I set off to explore the city. I simply had to find some more beautiful, pink outfits! My bag wasn't large enough for the wardrobe this trip had to offer! What's a ballerina to do without options? I'm not saying I was buying for each occasion, but just maybe. There is always a possibility of a street performance. It does happen.

Of course, I was on the lookout for the perfect pink tutu to capture the essence of Prague. My hunt led me to a hidden little gem of a shop called "Rosa Dreams," tucked away in a cobblestone alleyway. It was literally a pink paradise! Shelves overflowing with dresses in every shade imaginable, delicate lace, flowing chiffons, and the most incredible collection of handmade tutus I had ever seen.

I felt like I had stepped into a fairy tale! I lost myself amongst the racks, trying on different colours, textures, and styles. Ultimately, I found a stunning pale pink tulle tutu, layered with intricate embroidery that looked like blooming roses. It felt absolutely divine and completely justified its purchase price - after all, the perfect tutu isn't something one should compromise on, is it?

Ballet at the National Theatre

But the true highlight of my week was undoubtedly the ballet performance at the National Theatre on Tuesday. Oh my goodness! I literally had to pinch myself! To find such incredible artistry just steps from my hotel felt unreal! And the performance was nothing short of breathtaking. It was a rendition of "Giselle" - a tragic but utterly captivating ballet about a young woman in love with a handsome hunter who she discovers is not as he appears to be! Oh the drama!

From the haunting melodies to the mesmerizing choreography, every moment felt like pure magic. I especially loved the ethereal beauty of Giselle’s mad scene, her steps so poignant, graceful and yet desperate, her expression conveying such tragic anguish. It brought tears to my eyes! The performance moved me in ways I never expected, leaving me feeling humbled by the sheer power of ballet to express emotions with such stunning clarity.

Afterwards, as I strolled home under the twinkling Prague skyline, I realised how lucky I am to experience such magical moments - moments where ballet becomes a portal to another world.

Food and Flair: Discovering Prague

But, of course, life isn’t only about dancing and dressing up in pretty pink! (Although those are very important) I am also here to soak up the amazing atmosphere of this enchanting city. I’ve been sampling all the delicious local delicacies (hello, truffle dumplings and those amazing creamy goulash!), and exploring all the beautiful corners of the old town. Prague’s historic architecture is truly breathtaking, a blend of medieval grandeur, baroque flourishes, and a hint of whimsical romance. Every turn you take feels like a scene from a movie! There is an undeniable charm in this city.

Of course, I couldn’t leave without stopping by the famed Charles Bridge, the oldest bridge crossing the Vltava river, with its captivating history. I love that it’s lined with statues of saints – I even managed to capture a sweet snap of a charming dog who appeared to be admiring them from the river bank. Oh, and the views from the bridge over the Vltava? Simply stunning! This whole trip has been a dream! And I haven’t even told you about the street performances I saw… I just might add an entire post about that later in the week. I hope you all will keep up with the blog for all the details!
