Prague, Darling, Prague! 🩰💖 (Post #270)

Well hello there, darlings! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another instalment of my Prague adventures! You know how much I adore ballet, and I’m a firm believer in wearing pink tutus wherever you go. So when I realised that a trip to Prague would give me the chance to see the magnificent Czech National Ballet in the beautiful State Opera, I simply had to make it happen!

As you know, I've always adored a good train journey. It allows you to fully absorb the passing landscapes and indulge in that wonderful, exciting anticipation of what awaits. The journey from Derbyshire was just lovely. All the picturesque rolling hills and fields, and I just knew this trip would be special. I even spotted a beautiful pony! It must have sensed my love for all things delicate and pretty, and was no doubt heading to a ballet show itself. 😄

Arriving in Prague, it felt like stepping into a storybook. It’s simply breathtaking - the cobblestone streets, the pastel buildings, the vibrant atmosphere. It felt like a fairytale. There’s an abundance of charming cafes and boutique shops, perfect for me to stock up on vintage clothes. My latest obsession, which I will tell you more about soon, is finding fabulous accessories, particularly beautiful feathered headbands that will complement my favourite pink tutus. A good shopping spree is always a highlight on my travels!

Now, the reason I am in Prague… the Czech National Ballet! The State Opera house itself is stunning. It's the largest opera house in the Czech Republic and is simply dazzling. And this ballet… well, I’m practically speechless! The dancers were absolutely phenomenal, each graceful and precise, yet filled with such emotional depth. It was a true treat for the eyes, and I felt completely swept away by their performance. I even had a chance to speak to one of the ballerinas backstage. She was a kind and incredibly talented lady who took time out to chat with a fan (that's me!) She even told me about the intricate detail involved in creating each costume! My kind of girl, she is.

But the real gem of this performance, and what will always stay with me, was the story that unfolded on stage. There was so much passion, and a heart-breaking love story, which made me truly weep (it’s just as well I’ve been wearing waterproof mascara these past few days, you know! A good cry for the arts always works wonders!). And it was even more captivating thanks to the music, which just seemed to weave its way directly into my soul! It’s amazing how art can affect us so deeply, wouldn't you say?

But this blog isn’t all about the show, it's about Prague itself. A wander around this city reveals an incredible mixture of old and new. Today, I had the joy of strolling through the Old Town Square, where the historic Astronomical Clock stands. It's mesmerizing - imagine a clock telling you not just the time but the zodiac sign! There was also a vibrant market where I picked up the most beautiful handmade wooden jewellery, as well as a gorgeous pink enamel necklace (that goes perfectly with my new feathered headband!) It was then off to the Charles Bridge, a masterpiece of architecture built way back in the 14th century. What a perfect spot to appreciate the breathtaking beauty of Prague! It is here, by the bridge, where you can truly feel the soul of the city, wouldn't you agree?

My day ended with a lovely evening in one of Prague’s fabulous little cafes. With the sunset painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I sat sipping a perfectly strong latte and sketching (because every ballerina needs a creative outlet!). I couldn’t help but write a poem about Prague’s beauty in my journal – inspired by its charm and beauty. Perhaps I'll share it with you in a later post. 😉

Today was one for the memory banks. It felt like the sort of day where I should have pinched myself to check I was truly awake. So much to explore here, so much to learn and see. I’ve only just started, so stay tuned for more pink-tutu-fuelled adventures.

Speaking of pink tutus… I was recently approached by the Prague Fashion Institute who want to feature my latest pink tutu creation. Isn't it fabulous? They want me to run a workshop on ballet fashion. Imagine - a class where everyone learns about the history of tutus and how they’ve become more than just an item of dance wear! The aim is to empower everyone to embrace their inner ballerina and express their unique style! We are currently discussing dates and will be sure to announce them as soon as everything is in place.

As for my journey onwards, I’m off to visit a charming little boutique I spotted during my afternoon stroll - I simply must take a closer look at their vintage headbands! You’ll have to wait till next week for an update, but I am sure you’ll be utterly charmed by their offerings, just as I am!

And finally, darlings, remember to always wear your pink tutus, not only for the dance but for life itself. We’re all ballerinas in our own way!

See you next Wednesday!

P.S. Did I mention the deliciousness that is Prague cake? (Yes, that was indeed a slight detour for some delightful treats after ballet... just a small nibble!). It's a heavenly combination of soft pastry, creamy custard, and delicious fruit. It is truly the perfect combination of decadent and dreamy! Don’t be surprised if it ends up becoming a regular part of my travel diary… perhaps my new ballet fuelled obsession?
