Prague in Pink: Ballet, Tutus & The Magic of the City - Post #279

Wednesday, August 30th, 2000

Hello, my lovely ballet bunnies! It's Emma from the Pink Tutu, reporting live from Prague! Oh, the magic of this city...

After a gloriously romantic journey by train (more about that later!), I arrived in Prague feeling like I'd stepped straight into a fairytale. The cobbled streets, the charming old architecture, the beautiful Charles Bridge... Prague simply oozes charm and history!

My pink tutu-ed adventures begin...

As always, I made sure my pink tutu was ready for action. It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu adventure without it, wouldn't it? And honestly, what better place to twirl in a pink tutu than in a city that's literally brimming with stunning beauty? I kicked off my day with a visit to the Old Town Square - an explosion of pastel colours, baroque architecture, and fascinating historical monuments. The Astronomical Clock is a sight to behold! I even found a street performer with a harmonica, a lovely gentleman with a fantastic handlebar moustache and an old-world charm about him, he made me think of old movie star Errol Flynn. I stood there, a delicate ballerina with her pink tutu and watched him play his tune. It felt so theatrical and dramatic, like a scene from a silent movie. And naturally, I couldn’t resist taking some fabulous snaps. My camera doesn't stop, darling!

*But there's more... *

Speaking of charming, Prague has so many beautiful shops. They’re tucked away in cobbled alleys, tucked between majestic churches, a bit of a labyrinth, so expect to get lost – and absolutely do! It’s a wonderful way to experience the city and discover all its treasures. After hours spent browsing antique bookshops and boutiques bursting with Czech crystals, my shopping bag was bursting, filled with beautiful hand-stitched brooches and shimmering porcelain trinkets. The shop owners, bless their cotton socks, were such lovely people – they really took to my pink tutu!

*Prague in pink? You betcha! *

My next stop was Prague Castle, a true marvel! Walking up to it was quite an experience. We had taken a fun little train ride there, all crammed in, not very graceful I can tell you. We all giggled a lot. I could picture the majestic figures from history walking those ancient stone corridors. It felt incredibly special to stand there, surrounded by the ghosts of royalty and the echoes of a thousand years. I even managed to squeeze in a quick twirl for Instagram – the Castle Courtyard provided the perfect backdrop for a #PinkTutuInPrague shot, right?

But let's not forget about the reason I came here in the first place, my lovelies – ballet! And what better place to celebrate this passion than in Prague?

*The National Theatre... *

On this evening, my heart was racing as I approached the grand and imposing National Theatre. The place was absolutely teeming with people – the crowds buzzed with anticipation, eager to see "The Nutcracker". The building was like a giant fairy tale castle, adorned with intricate carvings, graceful columns, and the most fabulous stained glass windows you’ve ever seen. Oh, they shimmered so! I was so very impressed! And that’s not to mention the interiors - opulent and graceful, perfect for a night of magical entertainment. I took a photo, darling.

An evening of elegant dance...

But the real magic happened when the lights dimmed, the curtain rose, and the beautiful music of Tchaikovsky washed over me. Oh, to watch the dancers glide, leap and spin across the stage – pure magic! I do love seeing shows, the energy, the colour, the creativity, everything about it I find magical, you know. I even thought I saw a pink feather boa at the back of the orchestra… my favourite! The ballet was divine - full of emotion and grace, joy and drama. It was everything I hoped for, a truly spectacular experience that had me captivated from the first note. And I found myself feeling such an incredibly connection to Prague… it really is an exceptional city for lovers of the arts, so vibrant.

And let's not forget the delightful journey by train! The ride, you know. I think I might start going everywhere by train. I am starting to feel rather inspired by it. We chugged through a rolling landscape with breathtaking scenery. I couldn't help but picture my pink tutu, gliding through those emerald fields, swirling through the sun-kissed meadows… And then, you know, a little light refreshment – a glass of something bubbly and sparkling – the perfect way to finish a day of magical ballet and vibrant Czech charm.

But until next week, I bid you adieu! My Pink Tutu diaries will continue with the exciting story of how I, well, let's just say how my little venture with a cheeky, furry friend went... you'll have to come back next Wednesday for that little story, dear. I think you're going to find this quite amusing...

Until then, keep twirling and stay fabulous, darlings! And never forget – wear your pink tutu with pride. You know what I'm saying!

With a big hug and a twirl,

Emma
