Prague, Oh Prague! (Post #320) 🩰💖

Hello my darlings! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for a fresh dose of pink tutu goodness straight from Prague! This beautiful city has absolutely stolen my heart – think cobblestone streets, grand buildings adorned with swirling art, and cafes where you can sip coffee with a view that'll make you swoon.

Now, I know you're wondering how I ended up here, spinning pirouettes amongst the Czech castles and charming boutiques. Well, my lovely readers, a rather unexpected opportunity arose. I landed a coveted performance with the renowned National Theatre Ballet in Prague – imagine my excitement! This, my darlings, is how I've been funding my fabulous tutu-filled travels – by sharing my love of dance with the world, one graceful leap at a time!

Prague Ballet - An Unforgettable Experience

Before I even got to the show, my heart was pounding with anticipation! Prague boasts some of the most iconic theatres in Europe. As I entered the majestic National Theatre, with its stunning architecture and plush red velvet seats, I felt like I'd been whisked away to a fairytale. And that's not even mentioning the sheer grandeur of the main stage, where the ballet was about to unfold!

I knew going in that Czech ballet was celebrated for its elegance and technical prowess, and they truly did not disappoint. The dancers moved with a fluidity that made my breath catch in my throat, each pirouette and grand jeté simply captivating. I was mesmerised! The evening ended with the most exquisite version of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, which had the audience cheering. My cheeks were rosy, not just from the heat of the stage lights, but from pure, unadulterated joy.

Shopping Spree for my Inner Tutu Fanatic

After such a magical evening, you bet I treated myself to a little post-performance shopping! And what better place to indulge than in Prague, a city overflowing with charming boutiques and hidden gems. I spent the entire afternoon strolling through the streets of the Old Town Square, picking up some gorgeous Czech crystals for my latest tutu designs, as well as a pair of delicate ballet flats, perfect for navigating the city's cobbled streets with an added touch of femininity.

Now, I simply must share some fashion secrets I discovered! You know I adore the colour pink – it's like my happy place, and it looks magnificent in Prague! The pink hues on the buildings, from the iconic pastel walls of the houses lining the Charles Bridge to the salmon-hued blooms cascading from balconies, simply ignite my sartorial creativity. I can’t wait to incorporate those inspired shades into my next tutu creation. It's like the city itself is encouraging me to embrace my love for all things pink and dreamy!

Tutu Travels – A Ride on a Magical Pony!

Who says getting around Prague has to be boring? Of course not, darling! There's something undeniably charming about traversing the city on a gentle horse-drawn carriage, especially if you’re wearing a pink tutu, if I may add. This is the quintessential way to explore the city and take in the sights, particularly the iconic Charles Bridge. As I rode along the river, surrounded by the scent of Prague’s fragrant blooms and the echoing echoes of the cobblestone, I was transported to another time.

Of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without a visit to the breathtaking Prague Castle. The fairytale atmosphere of this castle complex will make you feel like you're stepping into a movie! It was utterly magical, with the golden spires glinting in the sun, and secret courtyards whispering untold stories. And it felt extra magical knowing that the iconic silhouette I was taking in, was part of a much older tradition.

On Tutu History – The Dance Across the Ages!

It made me think about the evolution of fashion – and of course, how the tutu has gone through many transformations throughout the ages! The tutu as we know it, is a fairly modern invention, gaining its place on stage only during the romantic period of ballet, just a few decades before Prague Castle got its makeover. The French revolution brought sweeping change to Europe's courts and theatre culture. This had a huge impact on the form of ballet. Classical ballet embraced lighter tutus with billowing skirts as opposed to the heavy costumes of the French court and its emphasis on spectacle, to focus instead on graceful, more weightless movements.

Can you imagine being a ballerina in that era? You'd step out of a castle, then go to ballet practice and a performance at the opera. How stylishly transformative! And we can still admire this change by the costumes we see on stage today!

Ballet Inspiration from Prague!

You can tell that dance is deeply rooted in the very fabric of Prague's culture! Whether you find yourself in a cozy cafe or a bustling market, it feels like ballet is everywhere you look. It’s in the way people glide through the city's streets, the way children twirl and skip, and even in the artistry of the street performers you find yourself drawn to, their every step a captivating story, echoing ballet’s captivating storytelling across ages.

Of course, my journey in Prague has been enriched by so many wonderful performances - including those from talented street ballet artists who captured my heart and imagination. There’s just something about ballet’s expression that is so moving and deeply affecting! I am eternally grateful for this beautiful experience. I cannot wait for my next adventures in Prague, but before I go, here’s one of my favourite tips for travelling in a pink tutu (with the grace of a dancer) to Prague :

Tutu Travel Tips:

  • Don't shy away from colour! The pink hues in Prague will elevate your tutu wardrobe! Think a bold blush, a vibrant magenta, or even a soft pink ombre to complement the architectural hues and garden palettes of this magnificent city.

  • Think practicality! Prague has many cobbled streets, so don’t shy away from comfort with your shoe choices, especially if you are heading off on your travel adventures! Even for your daily outings, I always find that ballerina flats or stylish walking shoes can really elevate a ballerina look.

  • Pack with a little extra! There's always time for a photoshoot in Prague. And you'll be snapping pics every moment! I bring some extra tulle or even sequins just in case. They’re perfect for a impromptu fashion shoot, you know, to catch some Parisian fashion flair in my own Pink Tutu style!

And now, my lovely darlings, until next Wednesday! I can’t wait to share my new ballet adventures and my newest Tutu creation. Until then, remember to twirl! 💖
