Pink Tutu Prague: Post #345 - A Ballet Bonanza in the City of a Hundred Spires
Hello, darlings! Itās Emma, your resident pink-tutu-clad fashionista, back with another whimsical Wednesday post, this time straight from the magical city of Prague. And trust me, itās absolutely living up to the hype! Iāve been hopping about like a sugarplum fairy in this beautiful place, discovering its hidden corners, indulging in exquisite coffee and pastries (the Czech Republic knows its sweet treats, my dears!), and, of course, soaking up the balletic delights that this city offers.
Pragueās been my dream destination for ages, ever since I first read a dusty tome about the history of ballet, specifically mentioning the illustrious Prague Ballet, founded back in the 18th century. Talk about a tutu-tastic legacy!
My journey here, however, was decidedly more modern (although not less charming!). After a whirl through Derbyshire on a charming, grey pony (Iām thinking of adding āpony trekkingā to my repertoire, but I do need to up my pony-riding skills), I hopped on a train. Yes, a train, darlings! It was absolutely delightful! I canāt resist a good carriage ride ā itās so elegant, donāt you think?
The journey was an absolute dream! Lush rolling hills of green, quaint villages tucked away in quiet corners, and charming countryside pubs with views that would make a Monet jealous. I even managed to squeeze in some ballet practice on the train, utilising a carriage bench as my barre. Itās important to maintain that pirouette-perfect form, even on the move!
Pragueās Ballet Magic: A Performance to Remember
Reaching Prague felt like stepping into a fairytale ā a storybook cityscape full of cobblestone streets, ornate architecture, and the kind of atmosphere that inspires pirouettes.
On this particular day, the 5th of December 2001, I had the pleasure of attending a performance by the world-renowned National Theatre Ballet ā a truly unforgettable experience! I have to admit, finding a ballet-themed performance during the December holidays can be tricky, but my dedication to the art form paid off, as always.
The performance I saw, a beautiful interpretation of āSwan Lake,ā captivated me completely. It was an emotional rollercoaster: the pure, ethereal beauty of Odette, the dark intensity of Odile, the tormented passion of Prince Siegfried, all played out in such exquisite detail. It's moments like this that remind me why I fall in love with ballet again and again.
The costumes were a dream ā elegant and intricate, and the dancers moved with an grace and agility that took my breath away. Iām absolutely tempted to attempt the swan's graceful movements myself!
But you know, the true magic of the ballet wasn't just in the dance itself. It was in the atmosphere, the hush falling over the audience as the curtain rose, the ripple of applause, the soft rustling of gowns (including my own exquisite pink tutu, of course). It felt like the entire audience was transported to another world, one where dreams and artistry soared alongside graceful dancers.
Fashionable Fun in the City
Beyond the ballet, Prague is a haven for fashionistas, with cobbled streets bursting with vintage boutiques and chic designer stores. I absolutely had to visit the KrumlovskĆ½ mlĆ½n, a bohemian wonderland where I found a delightfully delicate scarf and a pair of adorable pink gloves that complement my tutu perfectly!
Itās true what they say ā the Czechs have a wonderful sense of style! And speaking of fashion, darling, did I mention that this entire trip has been meticulously planned around coordinating my tutus? I have the perfect blush pink tulle number for strolling along the Charles Bridge, a sassy fuchsia masterpiece for a night at the opera, and of course, my classic baby pink creation, reserved for waltzing through the magical Old Town Square. I just canāt resist an opportunity to put on a show, my dear! I believe that ballet is everywhere, even on a leisurely stroll through Europeās most captivating cities!
More Adventures to Come...
But there's so much more to this pink-tutu-tastic Prague adventure! I'll be sharing more of my discoveries next week, including a peek into a hidden gem of a ballet school (it was divine!), my must-try restaurant recommendations (hint: Iām obsessed with their potato salad and dumplings!), and of course, a full photo diary of all the adorable pink-hued sights!
Stay tuned, my loves, and in the meantime, remember - everyone looks absolutely darling in a pink tutu!
Until next Wednesday!
Your ever-optimistic ballet blogger,
Emma xx
