Prague Diaries: Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of a Hundred Spires (Blog Post #382)

Hello my darlings, and welcome to another fabulous Wednesday edition of the Pink Tutu Diaries! Today I'm whisking you away to the enchanting city of Prague, a city so captivating, it's almost as if it stepped straight out of a fairytale! And let me tell you, my recent trip here has been an absolute dream – from the cobblestone streets and the majestic bridges to the breathtaking architecture and the incredible ballet scene, this place has stolen my heart!

It's no secret I'm utterly smitten with tutus – a passion that stretches far beyond mere fancy dress. In fact, my obsession with the history of tutus, from the earliest days of ballet in Renaissance Italy to the glorious bloom of the romantic tutu in the 19th century, is bordering on bordering on fanatical! It's what truly inspires me to keep on dancing, traveling, and most importantly, spreading the tutu love wherever I go!

So, I know you're wondering, how did I end up in Prague, you ask? Well, my darling dears, my latest tutu adventures are fueled by my beloved ballet performances, each graceful pirouette bringing me one step closer to achieving my grandest ambition: getting the whole world wearing a pink tutu! (It’s the ultimate in sartorial statement, darling, a symbol of joy, grace, and just plain loveliness!)

My journey to Prague was a glorious affair – an express train from the verdant valleys of my Derbyshire home, followed by the most enchanting carriage ride through rolling hills and medieval towns, pulled by the sweetest chestnut pony (with a pink bow tied around its mane, of course!).

I arrived in Prague just as the sun began its golden descent, painting the sky in a kaleidoscope of pink, orange and violet hues – talk about perfect timing! Prague's fairytale-like streets, bathed in the fading light, made me feel as if I’d stepped onto the set of my favourite childhood movie. I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that I'd fallen completely in love.

My first few days in Prague were spent exploring the city's fascinating architecture – those majestic churches with their onion domes and towering spires, the quaint pastel houses clustered together like a flock of painted birds, the beautiful bridges that seemed to defy gravity... Every corner was a scene out of a storybook!

Speaking of stories, a visit to Prague wouldn't be complete without exploring its rich history. One afternoon, I wandered through the enchanting Old Town Square – a place bursting with energy and the aroma of delicious local cuisine. Here, amongst the crowds of people strolling through the cobblestones, I saw the grand astronomical clock - a real masterpiece, with its moving figures that mark the hours. It reminded me that time is fleeting, yet, it’s never too late to chase your dreams – especially if your dreams involve rocking a perfect pink tutu!

A ballet trip would never be complete without some serious fashion therapy, and darling, I couldn’t resist dipping my toes into the sartorial wonders of Prague. I discovered the most exquisite boutiques filled with vintage treasures – velvet boleros, silk blouses, and of course, tutus!

One charming boutique on the edge of the Old Town Square stole my heart. I found myself falling for a fluffy tulle number, a stunning baby pink, accented with hand-stitched pearl embellishments, which of course, found its way straight into my suitcase – I just couldn't leave it behind!

One of my highlights, a truly special moment, was the chance to see "Giselle" at the Prague State Opera. The whole experience was sheer magic! From the stunning sets and the exquisite choreography, to the dazzling costumes – including one ballerina's breath-taking tutu that looked like it was crafted from pure moonbeams! Oh, and did I mention the dancers, my dear? Each step was like a whispered dream – so delicate, yet so powerful, effortlessly soaring through the air! It was an absolutely breathtaking evening that left me feeling utterly inspired, and fuelled my desire to create even more magic with my own dance.

My pink tutu journeys also included some enchanting evening adventures, such as watching local street performers dance under the golden lights of the Old Town Square. Watching them dance, from traditional folklore routines to ballet-inspired performances, I realised, Prague itself has an air of elegance and romanticism that is inherently dance-like. It’s just about seeing the beauty everywhere.

Now, for today's performance... It's August 21st, and as a big fan of all things ballet, you’ll understand my delight in catching a performance of The Nutcracker at the Prague State Opera, another ballet staple I find utterly delightful! I even have a pink, tulle-layered tutu with tiny Christmas baubles – my version of the Sugar Plum Fairy – that I’ve already packed ready for a truly pink-tastic ballet adventure! This evening promises a delicious mix of grace, humour and breathtaking choreography - a blend I absolutely adore. I shall, of course, be taking pictures of this evening’s ballet outfit and the enchanting ballet performances for my readers and those inspired by my Pink Tutu world!

On Thursday, I'm off to wander the charming streets of the Old Jewish Quarter. It's a place teeming with history and culture – I'm imagining winding, cobblestone lanes lined with beautifully preserved synagogues. After a lovely breakfast at my hotel, which I might add, is a delightfully whimsical hotel in a historic building in the heart of Prague, adorned with a whimsical rose garden and a breathtaking balcony view, I shall take a gentle amble through Prague’s hidden treasures.

I’m keeping you all in the loop, as always. Do you have a favourite Prague moment? Share it below in the comments and let's chat. And as always, dear readers, never forget: keep spreading the pink tutu love and remember that life, much like the dance, is meant to be enjoyed with joy and flair!

Until next week, darlings,

Love and pirouettes,

Emma xoxo
