Prague Calling! Post 519: Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of a Hundred Spires!

Hello my dearest Tutu Twirlers! It’s Wednesday again, and that means a brand new blog post from your favourite pink-loving ballerina, straight from the cobbled streets of Prague!

As you all know, this is my little corner of the internet dedicated to all things ballet, tutus and, of course, the colour pink! But more than anything, it’s a celebration of embracing life with joy, twirls, and a dash of fabulousness. So, grab a cuppa, settle in, and let me whisk you away to the heart of Prague with a sprinkle of pink magic!

A Dreamy Train Journey to the City of Bridges

It’s been a whirlwind of travelling this week, leaving the green fields and rolling hills of Derbyshire behind me, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. You see, there's something utterly romantic about travelling by train, watching the scenery change and feeling that exhilarating feeling of heading somewhere new. This time, it was an overnight journey on the Eurostar, and let me tell you, a pink-tutu wearing ballerina needs a little pampering even on a train journey! So, I took my comfy little travel pillow, a cuppa, and settled in for the magical journey through the French countryside and then across Germany.

Now, you might be thinking “Emma, a pink tutu on a train?!” Well, dear readers, of course not! That's what packing is for, and my favourite travel case has room for my prettiest travel ensemble: a stylish blush-pink maxi dress, a cardigan knitted in the prettiest shade of bubblegum pink, and, a fluffy ballet-inspired pink cardigan, for added cosiness. It just feels right, you know?

And speaking of right, the Prague railway station greeted me with its elegant, historic charm, making me feel like I had stepped into a film set. This city oozes history, a lovely mix of gothic, baroque and art nouveau, which all blended perfectly with the soft, pastel-pink sunset colours. Oh, how my ballerina heart fluttered at the sight!

First Impressions: Pink Bliss on the Cobblestones

It’s a good thing my pink-loving heart could handle a whole lot of excitement this week! Prague just gets into you. Its magic seeps into your bones with each click-clack of my heels on the cobblestone streets, every graceful curve of the Charles Bridge, every bite of a creamy pastry at a charming local cafe.

This week has been filled with so many delightful discoveries, like stumbling upon the adorable Pink Panther Café tucked away in a quiet little alley, a spot where I devoured the most amazing, pink-icing topped chocolate cake. Talk about a delicious treat! I could hardly contain my excitement. Oh, the pink bliss! Even my coffee came adorned with a little pink flamingo on top. How utterly charming!

Later, after a brisk stroll down the iconic Na Pƙíkopě street, a stylish haven of shops bursting with beautiful clothes and shoes, I had a chance to catch my breath with a cuppa at the gorgeous CafĂ© Savoy. This place is practically a dream come true for any fashion-conscious ballerina. Think elegant tables covered in white linens, the most beautiful crystal chandeliers, and plush, velvet seating. All of which was topped off with an absolutely delicious pink lemon sorbet that came with a delicate garnish of fresh rose petals. I could hardly believe my eyes. I think my jaw was actually on the floor for the entire afternoon, all thanks to this whimsical masterpiece of a cafĂ©!

Speaking of masterpieces

Prague's Ballet Delights

The magic of Prague has definitely seeped its way into this post, and now it’s time to share one of my absolute highlights.

This week has been all about getting to know this beautiful city and the stunning art that breathes life into it. But tonight was all about the dance! The famous Prague National Theatre is the oldest Czech language opera house. It’s an iconic structure, standing proud on the banks of the Vltava River. I absolutely loved taking a boat ride up the river just to get a perfect view of this majestic building. I felt like I was walking into a fairy tale as I stepped inside its grand foyer. It felt magical to know that so many talented performers have graced this stage over the years. The beautiful art deco designs throughout the theatre just blew me away.

And the ballet, “Sleeping Beauty”, was a sheer joy. The music by Tchaikovsky and the beautiful costumes
the sheer magic of it all had me in tears! Every twirl, every leap, every grand jeté  I was lost in the world of dreams. The ballerina who played Princess Aurora, was absolutely mesmerizing! She twirled with such elegance, her movements flowing effortlessly through every scene. A true embodiment of a ballerina's dream! And you know what? She even had a few pink tutu-like details in her beautiful ballet costume. Talk about a synchronised love of all things pink!

Of course, I couldn't resist grabbing a couple of extra “Sleeping Beauty” programs. These are great to add to my little collection. They make excellent mementos of this beautiful evening at the Prague National Theatre, filled with all the stories, artistic and musical details.

After such a beautiful show, my ballerina spirit soared! I simply had to capture these beautiful memories and capture it in this special, Prague-themed blog post!

The Story Behind The Tutu

You’re probably wondering, how does one find a perfectly pink tutu for all these ballet-related adventures, and how did I manage to fit it into my luggage! You’re not alone with this question! It is the question of all time, my friends!

Every pink-loving ballerina’s dream, a beautiful tutu, requires a special journey and, luckily, I know just the place! The most magical tutu havens are often tucked away in charming, antique shops on quaint streets around the world. This past weekend was an opportunity to uncover some Parisian couture gems.

Let me take you back for a little flashback: Think cobblestone streets, little shops bursting with vibrant fabrics, the sweet smell of freshly-baked croissants in the air, and that magical feeling of uncovering Parisian treasures. That was me on the hunt in a lovely Parisian antique shop last week! The air was heavy with the scent of cedarwood from the vintage dressing gowns, a smell that brought me straight back to the theatre's changing room in the glorious days of classical ballet. And it didn’t take long to stumble across a tutu from the 1920s, made with the softest chiffon in the prettiest shade of pastel pink, that I knew was meant to be mine.

And now, here we are in Prague! My new-found treasure will look gorgeous, paired with a classic ballet slipper, a touch of elegant makeup and some delicate, sparkling jewellery. And to complete the look, I can't resist a little blush-pink lip gloss for a dash of Parisian flair.

The perfect ballet-inspired outfit!

The Heart of a Ballerina

There's so much I love about this beautiful city: the charm of its winding cobblestone alleys, the echoes of history within its stone walls, the music that spills out from every doorway.

There's a vibrant, enchanting energy about Prague that I just can’t help but absorb. It's a city that invites you to lose yourself in its vibrant cultural scene and it’s a feeling I want to capture in this post and every post that I create.

As I sit in a cafe sipping a steaming cup of coffee with a plate of delicious Czech pastries and writing this post to all of you, I can’t help but feel so incredibly lucky to be on this incredible pink-tutu journey! A ballet-loving, travel-loving ballerina is one lucky lady.

Next Wednesday, I’ll be sharing more pink adventures, and this time we are going to venture outside the city, exploring some hidden gems on the outskirts of Prague, which are home to breathtaking medieval castles and charming villages.

So, be sure to tune in to pink-tutu.com and join me for another exciting week in Prague, all dressed up in a pink tutu!
