Prague, My Dearest, I've Fallen For You! (Blog Post #533)
Wednesday, 13th July, 2005
Bonjour, mes chĆ©ries! It's Emma from Pink Tutu HQ, reporting live from the magical city of Prague. Can you believe it? This darling of a city is as captivating as a grand jetĆ©, just with cobblestones instead of a stage floor! This is my fifth time here, and I've found a new love with each visit. Itās all thanks to my ever-reliable pony, Buttons (he knows every single track across Europe!), who brought me all the way here from Derbyshire, so I could explore all that Pragueās artistic heart has to offer.
Speaking of art, letās dive into my mission. Iāve got a date with destiny (and a couple of beautiful tulle skirts!), with a performance by the Pink Tutu Prague Ballet at the National Theatre! Yes, darlings, you read that right. Itās a group of fantastic young ballerinas, dressed, you guessed it, in pink tutus. Itās such a lovely mix of traditions, old and new. Theyāre bringing their own quirky flavour to classical ballet and the results are absolutely divine. And whatās a ballet girl without a slightly naughty little story behind it all?
It all began a few years back when my darling friend, Amelia, and I had a little giggle over a fancy dress costume for a school recital. "Wouldnāt it be delightful,ā she whispered between giggles, "to all wear pink tutus?"
And, well, it was delightful. Our teacher loved the look! The rest, as they say, is history! The girls became known for their flamboyant fashion, their captivating performances, and their ever-so-slightly cheeky charm. The Pink Tutu Prague Ballet was born!
Of course, I couldnāt let them go without my very own pink tutu-ed support! And what a journey itās been, my lovelies! Each week, my little website, www.pink-tutu.com, is bustling with inspiration and inspiration, featuring our exciting adventures and tales of tutus and travels. The lovely, supportive, generous, and frankly amazing pink tutu community keep me on my toes and my tutu perfectly twirled. We all love to live out our ballet dreams, and my oh my, do we do it with style!
I'm already at my Pink Tutu Prague Ballet dress rehearsal. Now, Iāll confess, I did sneak a peek at the show schedule this week. Todayās the 13th. Oh, the delicious, divine, devilishly exciting drama, Donāt be a Clown, My Dearest!. It's all about a daring and very witty clown who wants to steal the show and a love triangle! Imagine if the story of La Bayadere was rewritten as a Parisian circus. Absolutely enchanting! This is why Iām smitten with Prague: the shows are full of theatrical imagination and breathtaking dance numbers. This show is the absolute perfect way to finish off my weekend of beautiful shops, cafes, and hidden corners, a ballet performance being the best possible way to celebrate my arrival!
Before my rehearsal with the girls, I stopped by the magnificent St. Vitus Cathedral. It is an absolute must-see for anyone visiting Prague. I was so mesmerised by the gothic architecture, all those intricate details that you donāt notice from afar. They almost had me thinking it was one of those secret dance halls that sprung out of a fairytale, but, darling, this was very much real. The architecture was truly mind-boggling, every pillar and archway so carefully sculpted and adorned, that I imagined angels dancing their way from one pointed archway to another.
Of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without a splendid afternoon spent shopping. My darlings, I know you adore a bit of vintage fashion and oh my word for the divine finds I managed to squeeze into my already bursting suitcase. Vintage silk scarfs in the most outrageous shades, a delicate silver choker necklace (so very Art Nouveau), and a charming little black hat with an adorable plume ā pure decadence! Imagine what we can create from all of this! Pink Tutu is going to be getting an overhaul and weāre planning our new performance costumes. Theatrical brilliance - the world just has to see what we're up to!
But Prague has more to offer than just a dazzling mix of the old and new. The street art here is just as dazzling! Itās the wildest, most colourful display of street art imaginable. Thereās a vibrant energy coursing through the very walls. You can see why Prague has a magnetic appeal to young artists and performers, a little bit of artistic rebellion bubbling just beneath the surface. The other day, I even found an entire block where each building had been covered with an intricate mural depicting some classic scene. Just look at that image on the website ā it was utterly glorious!
And oh, the food! The Czech Republic, Iām sure you know, is a country built for eating. But itās also an absolute treat to find charming, quirky cafes like my little Parisian dream of a spot just outside the old town, where you can order up a delectable crepe.
My favourite part of this Prague visit, however, is seeing how this captivating city becomes a magnificent backdrop for ballet. From the National Theatre's grand stage to the streets, Prague, to me, is the perfect stage for both a performance and an exciting adventure.
It's a real shame that weāre only staying in Prague for one short week but I plan to squeeze as much pink tutu goodness in here as I possibly can! More photos on the Pink Tutu site of the Pink Tutu Prague Balletās magical performance, and I canāt wait to share more pink tutu tales from the heart of this extraordinary city! Donāt forget to pop back next Wednesday! I have so much to share.
Till next time,
Emma from Pink Tutu HQ

Emma is on the street in Prague. In the background, is a scene from Prague's amazing street art, featuring a ballerina performing a grand jetƩ across an urban wall covered in swirling brushstrokes. The colours of the mural perfectly match the delicate lilac colour of Emma's tulle skirt, which sweeps in a gentle dance around her as she sits on the edge of a fountain, a wistful expression on her face. She is dressed in her signature pink tutu. Her pink handbag, matching a pair of delicate ballet shoes, is nestled between her legs.
