Prague: Ballet, Tutus, and Ticking Clocks - Blog Post #535

Bonjour mes chƩries! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another pink tutu-filled adventure on Pink-Tutu.com! This week I'm writing to you from the beautiful, cobbled streets of Prague - the City of a Hundred Spires, as they call it here!

Now, you all know I live for travelling, and for me, there's no better way to travel than by train. The rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels against the rails just gets my heart going. Especially when combined with a lovely scenic journey through the Czech countryside - so green, so picturesque. And naturally, I was sporting my favourite blush-pink tulle tutu, which flounced with every bump and bend. Can't let my fashion slip, can I?!

The Tutu History of Prague

Speaking of pink tutus, I simply had to delve into the tutu history of this enchanting city. After all, you wouldn't think of Prague without thinking of ballet, would you? It has been home to world-class ballet since the 18th century, and a beautiful opera house called the Estates Theatre played a big part in the birth of opera, even housing performances by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! And it is absolutely bursting with beautiful historical buildings! There is just so much history crammed into every cobbled street and ornate spire.

I had to pay a visit to the National Theatre - a grand edifice of Neo-Renaissance architecture right by the river. Sadly, no tutus allowed backstage here. However, it boasts a stunning repertoire of classic and modern ballets, including my favourite, "Giselle." You can bet your bottom dollar I'll be back for a performance very soon.

Pragueā€™s Ballet Scene and Ballet Class

While I haven't quite conquered the ballet scene here just yet, Iā€™ve had my ballet fix, you bet. And what's a ballet loverā€™s journey without a little bit of training, eh? I've been lucky enough to find a fantastic ballet studio near my lodgings. I had a fabulous session today, in my shimmering pink tulle tutu, of course. Just try and imagine a cobblestoned Prague alleyway with the sound of tendu, pliĆ© - so chic!

The ballet instructor here, Madame Zofia, was absolutely wonderful! Such a patient, gracious lady, she reminded me a bit of my ballet teacher from Derbyshire. She even taught me some lovely traditional Czech folk dances - now Iā€™m learning to combine traditional dance steps with pink tutu flair, darling! Prague really knows how to put the ā€˜wowā€™ factor into ballet class.

Dress for Success - Shopping for the Tutu of My Dreams

Of course, no trip to a city like Prague would be complete without a shopping spree! You could say, I am on a permanent hunt for the perfect tutu. You see, the world needs to embrace pink tutus! And I intend to make it happen one shopping trip at a time.

Yesterday, I stumbled across a quaint little shop, called ā€œBallerina Dreams.ā€ You wouldnā€™t believe the colours, the styles, the designs! There were so many wonderful, delightful pink tutus - all beautifully made and brimming with French ā€œje ne sais quoiā€. And of course, I simply couldn't resist! My new ā€œPrague Pinkā€ tulle creation will be starring in all my social media posts this week, so youā€™ll have to watch this space!

Tutu-licious Prague

On a personal note, Prague has got to be one of the most charming and beautiful cities Iā€™ve ever visited. You feel like youā€™re stepping into a fairytale! And donā€™t even get me started on the food! The rich history and artistic brilliance oozes from every nook and cranny! You'd almost forget youā€™re even in the 21st century!

Of course, I wouldnā€™t be writing a Pink-Tutu.com post without highlighting the magnificent beauty of this city and the ways itā€™s bringing the ballet scene to life. Now, where were we? Ah yes! Iā€™m heading back to my lovely hotel room now to freshen up and prepare for this eveningā€™s adventure! My inner tutu princess tells me I can't resist this gorgeous cityā€™s allure for long. I shall return, Prague!

Till next time!

XOXO, Emma

P.S. I simply must mention one of the incredible sites I saw during my explorations. The Astronomical Clock on the Old Town Square is an engineering marvel! Every hour, its mechanical figurines come alive! This time-telling masterpiece reminds me just how incredible this beautiful city is! Do check it out - you'll be charmed, I promise!

*Now for the details that really matter! *

I am loving these traditional dance steps, and letā€™s just say Iā€™ll be using some of these moves to create some truly spectacular ā€œpink tutuā€ inspired moves back at home!

    • I just adore how fashion and art meet here! It's a ballet-lover's paradise! Prague offers something new at every turn. And don't forget - today, Iā€™m going to enjoy the famous Astronomical Clock on the Old Town Square!

    • What a gorgeous day, just a fantastic escape to Europe! So what is a pink tutu-loving ballerina to do today in this beautiful city?

    • This evening Iā€™ll be taking in a show at the grand, majestic National Theatre. Itā€™s an opulent edifice, with magnificent Neo-Renaissance architecture! Thereā€™s something really special about those grand opera houses! The National Theatre is just brimming with charm. Thereā€™s history in every brick and mortar - an exquisite architectural treat, I just had to come here!
