Pink Tutu Prague: Post Number 562 🩰✨💖

Hello my lovely readers, and welcome back to another fabulous Wednesday post! It's a blustery day here in Prague, with clouds gathering in the sky and a touch of snow clinging to the cobbled streets. But no matter the weather, my heart is warm and sunny - because I am in the heart of Europe, the home of so much cultural brilliance! I’ve had a wonderful time this week exploring Prague’s gorgeous architecture and indulging in some delicious Czech treats – that Trdelník with the Nutella filling is absolutely divine!

Now, let's talk about why I've really ventured so far – my latest ballet fix! I recently discovered a fascinating hidden gem nestled in this enchanting city, and oh my, what a find it was!

But first, a quick story about my journey here. Did I mention that I am now a pony aficionado? I know, a little strange for a ballerina, right? But it turns out my pony companion, Lily, is as much a fan of train journeys as I am! She’s quite the connoisseur of platform treats. Luckily, the trains between Vienna and Prague were comfortable and welcoming, and Lily managed to keep her hay chomping down to a manageable level (and I avoided any unwanted pony-sized foot traffic!)

After our long but delightful train trip, I decided to stay at this delightful boutique hotel just off Old Town Square. Oh, what a dream it is! Filled with historical charm and adorned in elegant Victorian design, it was like stepping into a vintage fairytale. I had a delightful chat with the hotel's owner over a cup of herbal tea, a charming man with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Prague’s artistic past. I found myself enthralled by the tales of ballerinas who have graced these very streets.

With my heart overflowing with romantic notions and my pink tutu tucked neatly into my suitcase (it does travel in style, darling!), I stepped out to explore Prague's labyrinthine lanes and its breath-taking vistas. I had heard whispers of this little known ballet company, The Pink Flamingo, nestled in a historic theatre on the edge of the city. Little did I know what an exciting discovery it would be!

The Pink Flamingo - A Jewel of the Czech Scene

This unique theatre, a charming haven in a charming city, is adorned with vintage posters and a lovely stage filled with soft lighting. They specialise in small scale productions and new choreography, which always captures my heart! The artistic director, a passionate dancer with fiery red hair and eyes that sparkled with theatrical charm, met me with an infectiously warm smile.

My interest piqued, I attended their recent production, "Echoes of the Moon", a hauntingly beautiful modern ballet with an unforgettable original score. Every dancer held such grace and precision – they floated on the stage, with a refined intensity that was mesmerizing.

It's no wonder Prague is a haven for artistry! The Pink Flamingo felt so special. It’s refreshing to find a company that focuses on a new wave of choreography, one that allows for such artistic exploration! I felt a real kinship with these young dancers.

Their approach to costume design is incredible too! There was such an exciting play on colour, textures and shape, with splashes of daring scarlet red, midnight blues, and shimmering silver. They were an absolute riot to watch. Of course, my favourite costume (aside from my trusty pink tutu – you know me!), was this exquisite pale pink ensemble – a delightful mesh of delicate chiffon and luxurious velvet. They really went all out with the costume design, truly a testament to their dedication.

Pink Flamingo Inspiration

Talking of pink and all things ballet, let’s not forget about those magnificent tutus. It's so obvious to me – every ballerina, every woman needs a pink tutu in her life! It’s a little dash of magic and whimsy, ready to be spun around and twirled into your heart!

I spotted an intriguing little vintage boutique right by my hotel, just brimming with treasures. Oh, how I love finding independent shops when I travel! The lady who owns it, a silver-haired, mischievous-eyed sprite with a quick smile and even quicker wit, was a true treasure trove herself.

Imagine, surrounded by a mountain of pink! We discussed everything from historical tutu styles to the rise of the pink tutu (did you know that the iconic Marie Taglioni first wore a pale pink tulle skirt, later deemed to be a 'tutu', in a ballet back in the 1830s?). She had a pair of absolutely gorgeous pink tutus - just vintage and ethereal enough to transport you right into a Parisian theatre!

Oh, and just you wait until you see my next dance-themed post - because you know I wouldn’t miss the chance to get my hands on one of these beautiful treasures! The possibilities for my upcoming performance are endless, and I am feeling particularly inspired with my pink tutu collection expanding even further!

Life's a Ballet!

Remember that feeling of being in love with life? When even the air smells sweeter, and colours pop with newfound brilliance? That’s exactly what my experience has been in Prague! This city’s magic and history feels so inspiring.

I am so fortunate to have found such a gem in Prague. This is what I call “finding your happy place,” that spot where your love for ballet, theatre, beautiful design and the world at large intersect in a harmonious dance!

As you all know, my life’s mantra is “let's all twirl in a pink tutu.” The journey of sharing this passion for ballet has led me all the way here, and Prague has not only confirmed this love but also made it bloom even brighter.

I’m already planning my next dance adventure, this time further into Eastern Europe, where I’ll continue exploring hidden cultural treasures, seeking out inspiring performances, and of course, embracing all things pink tutu.

Now, go out and live life with the same joy and grace of a ballerina!

And if you’re thinking of travelling to Prague, do add The Pink Flamingo to your list. You won’t regret it! And while you are at it, put on a pink tutu and spin your way around - the world is waiting to be dazzled! 💖✨🩰

See you all next Wednesday!
