Pink Tutu Prague: Whirlwind of Culture and Colour (Blog Post #578)

Wednesday, 24th May 2006

Bonjour mes amis! It's Emma, back from the cobbled streets of Prague with a heart full of fairytale magic and a suitcase bursting with stories. This week, my trusty pink tutu has been twirling through the enchanting city of Prague, where history whispers from every corner and beauty dances in the very air. I feel as if I've stepped straight into a classic ballet, only this time, I'm the prima ballerina, and the whole city is my stage.

A Train Ride into Whimsy

I arrived in Prague with a skip in my step and a twinkle in my eye, after a charming train journey that was as elegant as a waltz. As I gazed out the window at the countryside whizzing past, I felt like I was in a scene from a period drama, with my little pink tutu flitting amidst the swaying fields. Arriving at the majestic Prague Hauptbahnhof station was like entering a world of romance, with its grand architecture and the sweet, lingering scent of old leather and dusty books. I felt instantly transported to a time of beautiful gowns, gallant gentlemen, and endless possibilities.

Shopping Spree with a Bohemian Twist

Prague, oh Prague, you've stolen my heart! I haven't even unpacked properly, and I'm already lost in a shopping frenzy. The old town is an absolute treasure trove for a tutu-loving fashionista like me! From quirky vintage boutiques overflowing with Bohemian treasures to high-end designer shops boasting exquisite craftsmanship, Prague offers something for every taste and budget.

I couldn't resist picking up a few treasures for my ever-expanding tutu collection: a beautiful silk shawl with intricate embroidery, perfect for throwing over a pink tutu for a touch of vintage glamour; a pair of pearl earrings, sparkling like dewdrops on a petal, perfect for adding a dash of elegance; and a handmade leather purse with delicate floral motifs, a touch of Prague magic I'll treasure forever.

A Ballet Lover's Paradise

Of course, no trip to Prague is complete without a visit to the magnificent National Theatre. Built in 1881, this grand opera house boasts an impressive neo-renaissance facade and an auditorium that makes you feel like you're transported to another era. I can't wait to experience the magic of ballet within its historic walls.

But before the show, a visit to the charming little boutique Ballet Prague, tucked away on a quiet street, was a must. This charming little shop is a true delight for anyone with a love for ballet. It was crammed with gorgeous costumes, shoes, and accessories – I even spotted a pair of pointe shoes, the epitome of ballerina chic, and I swear they winked at me! I left the shop with a new silk scarf, a tiny ballet doll, and my heart bursting with anticipation for tonight’s performance.

A Ballet Performance to Remember

And speaking of performances, the ballet this evening at the National Theatre was simply divine! Tonight, the National Theatre Ballet Company is performing 'Swan Lake', a timeless masterpiece with breathtaking choreography and stunning sets.

The opening scene with the corps de ballet dressed in beautiful white tutus was simply breathtaking. Their movement was so graceful and precise, as if they were gliding on air. The leading ballerina, with her ethereal beauty and elegant moves, captured the essence of a swan perfectly. I couldn't help but be mesmerised by the strength and grace in her performance, and every twist, jump and turn she executed just left me gasping.

The music was truly magnificent, its notes swirling around the theatre as the story unfolded before our eyes. The passionate waltzes and soaring adagios were a feast for the ears, and the overall effect was pure magic. It’s nights like these, where the magic of ballet washes over you, that truly remind me why I am so passionate about this art form. I couldn't help but feel a bit of a lump in my throat when the curtain finally fell, marking the end of a performance I’ll cherish forever.

A Parisian Treat in Prague

After the show, we enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the Old Town Square, soaking in the evening atmosphere. The street performers, with their colourful costumes and playful antics, added to the festive atmosphere, and a waft of freshly baked bread filled the air, sending our noses on a delicious journey.

We decided to try a little French café just off the square, and sat on a cosy, cobblestone terrace enjoying steaming cups of French coffee. It’s funny, even in a city as full of character as Prague, I often crave those classic Parisian touches like delicious coffee, crisp croissants and soft jazz. But hey, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu blog if I wasn’t on a whirlwind of a cultural journey, wouldn’t it?

Onwards and Upwards

Well, my darling readers, it's getting late, and I must admit I'm utterly exhausted from the day's adventures. Prague has left an indelible mark on my heart, with its whimsical charm and bohemian flair, a perfect city for a pink tutu wearer to explore and be enchanted by! I know you are all looking forward to my next week's adventure from my next location, a secret I'm holding close for now. But one thing I know for sure – the adventures of a pink tutu never end. Until next time, remember to stay beautiful, believe in magic, and always, always, twirl!

Love,

Emma
