Pink Tutu Prague: Post #579 - Where Dreams Come True (And You Can Get a Pony!)
Wednesday 31st May 2006
Oh my darlings, what a whirlwind of pink this week has been! I've been dreaming of this trip to Prague ever since I discovered that its fairytale streets are simply brimming with exquisite ballet! And let me tell you, this week has been more fabulous than even my wildest tutu-filled fantasies could imagine.
My trusty pink case is already overflowing with delightful Prague finds, and the aroma of freshly baked strudels is still clinging to my tutu (it just goes so well with the sweet, powdery fragrance of Ballet Rosa, my signature scent!).
The journey to Prague was quite the adventure in itself, you know. A charming gentleman from my ballet troupe and I were lucky enough to share a carriage with the sweetest little pony - his owner was a dashing chap in a velvet waistcoat who offered me some of his homemade plum cake, which he assured me had magical powers. Apparently, one bite grants you a lifelong supply of sunshine smiles. I may be taking him up on another bite later. I couldn't help but notice that everyone on the train was smitten with my pink tutu - clearly, the magic was working!
Speaking of magic, let's talk about Prague! From the moment my pink shoes touched the cobbled streets, I knew I was in for something special. The city's stunning architecture, the pastel-coloured buildings, the ancient churches - it all just whispered stories of romance and grand gestures. Even the pigeons cooed in a way that felt strangely operatic. I mean, don't they normally just poop on you and run away? It was practically like a scene from "Swan Lake!"
Of course, my biggest mission was to immerse myself in Prague's world-renowned ballet. I couldn't wait to lose myself in the elegance and grace of the city's legendary ballet companies, like the Czech National Ballet and the National Theatre Ballet. I must say, these dancers are so talented - their movements are pure poetry in motion! And those costumes! They were breathtakingly elegant. I actually gasped aloud when a ballerina gracefully danced onto the stage in a billowing, celestial-blue tulle tutu. It was as though the very air of the theatre itself was sighing with enchantment.
Speaking of tutus, can we just take a moment to appreciate these little bundles of feminine joy? I mean, the mere mention of the word "tutu" sends my heart soaring, don't you agree? This fabulous form of ballet dress has been around for centuries - and boy, have we been blessed with some glorious historical moments in tutu design! Did you know that the original tutus were actually rather elaborate affairs, worn by ballerinas back in the 1800s? These were not your streamlined, simple tutus of today! These were full, dramatic, frilled affairs that looked like they were meant for a royal ball, not a simple ballet performance! Imagine those exquisite dancers in billowing, lacy tutus, spinning and leaping like fairies!
As the weeks wore on, I discovered some amazing Prague shops, where I just couldn't resist adding some gorgeous garments to my wardrobe. There were velvet jackets, shimmering gowns, sparkling necklaces, and oh, the shoes! And, of course, I just had to get a few new tutus to add to my growing collection. This pale pink number, with its delicately embroidered flowers, just made my heart skip a beat! And the way it swishes around my legs when I twirl? Sheer perfection!
But, there was more to Prague than just beautiful things. We went for a walk through the beautiful park by the river, where children chased butterflies and the air smelled of sweet blossoms. And as we strolled by, we came across the most wonderful sight: a group of horses prancing in a paddock. The most beautiful pony with the prettiest pink nose nuzzled his nose against the gate. Now, I may be biased, but a pink tutu goes perfectly with a pony!
Of course, my favourite thing about Prague is that it's a city that is full of magic. It feels like you've stepped into a fairy tale - everything seems just a little bit brighter and more romantic here. Perhaps it's the way the sun shines on the river, or the sound of music that spills from every street corner, but there's something special in the air here that makes you feel like anything is possible. And really, isn't that the most wonderful thing of all?
Until next Wednesday, my darlings. Let's keep the magic alive by donning our tutus and letting the world know that the power of pink and twirling can take us anywhere we want to go!

A Deeper Dive into the Prague Ballet Experience:Prague’s ballet scene truly blew my mind! My experience felt like a perfectly orchestrated blend of historical ballet charm and captivating modern interpretations. Here's what really captivated me:
The Magic of The National Theatre Ballet: I was absolutely mesmerized by the grace and artistry of this incredible company. From the graceful leaps of their star male dancers to the hauntingly beautiful elegance of the ballerinas, each performance was a triumph. The sheer athleticism on display was astounding!
Beyond the Stage: As I explored, I discovered that Prague's ballet community goes beyond just grand theatres and stunning performances. Every cobbled street and tucked away café whispered with the vibrant spirit of ballet.
Street Performance Enchantment: My search for ballet delights didn’t end in stuffy old theatres! On a crisp evening, I stumbled upon a little troupe performing a graceful rendition of "Swan Lake" in the shadow of the Charles Bridge. Their graceful moves illuminated the evening air and drew in crowds of admiring onlookers - what a fabulous, impromptu treat!
The Spirit of Ballet - Everywhere! One morning, while sipping my coffee and enjoying a sweet, flaky pastry, I overheard a delightful old woman sharing her stories about a local ballet class, apparently a beloved hub for generations of aspiring ballerinas. You see, even beyond the stage, Prague's ballet heritage is alive and vibrant, its rhythm echoing through every crevice of this amazing city.
A Word for My Fellow Tutu Lovers: Prague has an incredible shopping scene! From vintage boutiques to designer stores, this city boasts some seriously stylish finds. Oh, my darlings, the tutus in Prague! Some are elegant, flowing cloud-like wisps of tulle, while others were almost futuristic, with their sharp, angular lines and dazzling, vibrant colors. Don’t you dare visit Prague without picking up at least one new, beautiful tutu - I promise you, it will bring you endless joy.
Don’t Forget, Pink is Power: If my experience in Prague taught me anything, it's that life is about taking a chance, spreading a little bit of sparkle and reminding ourselves that with a little bit of magic, anything is possible. It's a mantra that I'm sure the women of Prague (who have, as we know, always held the world in a delicate, tulle-covered fist) would agree with!
Until next Wednesday, keep dancing my darlings, and remember, a little bit of pink is all you need!
