Prague Diaries: Pink Tutu Prague! (Post 639)
Wednesday 25th July, 2007
Bonjour, mon chères amis! It's Emma, your favourite tutu-tastic traveller, writing to you from the heart of Prague! This beautiful city has completely enchanted me with its cobblestone streets, charming cafes, and magnificent architecture. And, of course, the ballet scene here is just fabulous!
This week, my travel funds were boosted by a delightful performance at the Buxton Opera House. A magical production of Giselle, filled with stunning artistry and heart-stopping leaps! As a ballet aficionado, I truly believe that nothing beats the feeling of swirling and leaping under the stage lights.
Speaking of swirling and leaping, let's talk about Prague! I'm staying in a quaint little guesthouse right in the Old Town square. The minute I arrived, I fell in love with the cobbled streets, the vibrant colours, and the feeling of stepping back in time.
This morning, I set off to explore the charming shops, all filled with exquisite treasures. Oh, the vintage clothing! There are so many darling dresses and frocks, just waiting to be paired with a perfectly pink tutu! The streets are a dream for a fashionista like myself! It seems like everyone here has impeccable style, but then, I have to say, the Czechs have a certain natural flair that comes with living amongst such magnificent historical beauty. Just watching them walk around the city is like a ballet performance in itself.
Of course, the highlight of any trip to Prague has to be the iconic Charles Bridge. Walking across it, bathed in the golden glow of the afternoon sun, feels like a scene straight out of a fairy tale! I couldn't resist striking a few poses with the stunning Prague Castle in the background - it felt like a ballerina moment. The pink tutu really did elevate the magical quality of the setting, you know, and the views from the bridge are just breathtaking.
This afternoon, I'm planning on treating myself to a proper Prague coffee experience at one of those lovely traditional cafés, all charming wood and elegant pastries. A cuppa, a sweet treat, and some people-watching? Perfection. And then, of course, it's time to find out what fabulousness the theatre has to offer this evening. Perhaps I will finally get to see the famous Black Light Theatre! The fact it uses innovative special effects has piqued my interest, you see, it seems rather more than your typical dance show, rather more suited to my, hmm, perhaps theatrical tendencies. They'll need some really dramatic lighting for this to live up to my usual standard, let's see! Don't worry, I'll update you all in my next blog.
On my travels through Europe, I've become a bit of a train enthusiast - who knew there was so much romance in choo-choo travel? It certainly beats those horrid aeroplane queues, plus the opportunity to soak in the changing scenery is just sublime.
Speaking of scenery, one of my absolute favourite things about this city is its architectural beauty. Imagine cobbled streets framed by beautiful, ancient buildings, some with baroque facades, others Gothic spires, and almost all painted in vibrant shades of terracotta and mustard yellow! I have so many photos!
But, of course, what would a trip to Prague be without exploring the rich ballet history? There's a story here! Do you know about the wonderful Anna Pavlova? Well, she was known to dance all over the globe, with an impressive portfolio that included all the famous places: Paris, St Petersburg, London and many more. But guess where her first big ballet tour was? Yes, you guessed it... it was here! In 1917.
And so, I shall embrace the history and magic of this delightful city. It's only been a few days, but already I've learned so much! So, for now, I shall soak in the beautiful atmosphere and enjoy the sights and sounds of Prague. Who knows what wonders await in this delightful city, perhaps even a pink tutu-themed shopping spree?
Do you have any recommendations for my visit to Prague? Have you been here? Let me know your favourite haunts, darling, I’m on the hunt for a little bit of Prague magic!
See you all soon, my lovely little ballerinas. Until next week, remember - there's a little ballerina in all of us! Keep shining, darlings.
Always and forever,
Emma xx
P.S. Remember, if you're thinking of adopting a pink tutu, now is the time. Be prepared, you are going to need an extra-large pink luggage to fit all of your tutus in - pink is always a winner, and what could be more magical than prancing about Prague with a pink tutu! Don't be afraid to shine and embrace your inner ballerina!
