Prague, Oh Prague, How I Adore You! 🩰💖 (Post #644)
Hello my darling dears! It's Wednesday, so you know what that means - a new blog post from your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma! I'm writing to you live from the most magical city imaginable - Prague! 🇨🇿
A Journey of Romance and Railways
Getting here was an adventure all its own, naturally! Leaving the Derbyshire countryside felt like stepping into a fairytale, and boarding a train to Prague, I couldn't help but imagine myself in one of those classic European romances - think Jane Eyre meeting a dashing count! The train journey was absolutely delightful, though I'm not quite sure what possessed me to wear my sequined ballet flats - all those stares from the fellow passengers made me feel like a bit of a spectacle! 👠 Perhaps a bit of extra sparkle was just what was needed though! ✨
Now, a quick word about trains - do you find they inspire the most wondrous of daydreams, too? I'm quite sure it's the rhythmic chugging of the engine combined with the rolling landscape - the perfect formula for conjuring up captivating narratives. I may or may not have imagined I was the heroine in a musical travelling through Europe on a whirlwind romance! It all felt awfully theatrical! 🎭
My Pony, Priscilla, Joins the Adventure
However, you don't need me to tell you my life is never without its unexpected twists! When we arrived in Prague, it was clear we needed to up the ante for travel style, and so, with a little help from a local horse breeder (who is coincidentally a fan of my blog, hooray!), I found myself on the back of Priscilla, a magnificent chestnut pony, trotting towards my hotel! The locals were positively smitten, snapping pictures left, right and centre. A pink tutu on a pony! Talk about an eye-catching spectacle! 🦄 Oh, my darling dears, the sheer delight on their faces as we went past was worth the extra dusting of stardust I brought with me from Derbyshire! ✨
A Tutu-ing Tour of the City of a Hundred Spires
Now, onto the heart of Prague! It is, as they say, absolutely divine! Cobblestone streets that feel like stepping into a time capsule, stunning gothic architecture that screams "fairytale," and charming little cafes nestled along the banks of the Vltava River. Honestly, it's the most picturesque setting for an afternoon spent enjoying a cup of coffee (or five!) with a scrumptious slice of cake, all whilst gazing at the gorgeous buildings reflected in the water. 🍰
Speaking of scrumptious, you just have to try the local Czech cuisine! Their creamy potato soup is out of this world, and I must admit, even I couldn't resist a big plate of delicious roasted meats! Oh, the delights of travelling! And did I mention the bread?! It's practically a whole new genre! Honestly, I think I might be in love with Prague! 💕
A Ballet Love Affair: Prague in Pink!
Of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without a visit to their incredible ballet theatre! Now, let me tell you, I have seen ballet performances all over the world, from London's West End to the grand Palais Garnier in Paris, but nothing quite prepared me for the magic of the National Theatre in Prague! 🎭
The grandeur of the building, with its opulent decorations and soaring ceilings, really set the scene for a night of pure delight! It felt like something out of a dream, and the performance itself was captivating!
They even had a very special piece based on a Czech fairytale! Can you believe it?! I practically wept during the most poignant scene, I swear it! And afterwards, it was delightful to discover they'd created the most exquisite programme. Imagine my joy when I realised it had a section devoted to the history of tutus! From the Renaissance to the modern day, every gorgeous ruffle and feather, and every iconic ballet costume in all its glory! Oh, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect night! 💖
